still canβt believe we had a fever dream of several years where people took this shit seriously pic.twitter.com/3bGYV2AFDd

except it's not
It's not a caricature, it was drawn by this person
it's weird how you assumed I was talking about the art
You called it a 4 panel caricature. It's not a caricature because the artist isn't exaggerating anything. You were talking about the arte when you mentioned "4 panel caricature"
it's always very funny when people tell me what I meant by what I said. if you don't have anything other than intentionally misunderstanding me, be on your way
I was at many, many, many BLM protests
i think it's good to lock up murderers
A 2 month old was murdered by police but yeah glad we stopped caring
I'm glad we have prisons to put those murdering cops in
this, quite notably in fact, never happens. which is kinda a central tenet of prison abolition, yet another thing that scares you because you don't understand it. frickin dork
all of those things are good and will survive
i prefer not to give government handouts to kids earning 3x the median salary just cause they're angry they can't afford a yacht
We should have lighter sentences for all crimes across the board.
This reads very plainly as a right wing satire. Stunning to think it was made in earnest

The legal system is fricked, yet there's few things more likely to get people to defend it and the cops' part in it than leftists prevaricating about how they want to tear it down and what they'd replace it with. Or the motte and bailey arguments they always use: 'You think defunding the police is dumb? You must want them to shoot babies!'

The problem is they don't have a good system to replace it with. It'd be wonderful to replace cops and the prison system with something where there was no chance of innocent people being incarcerated or killed.
But every suggestion fails to account for human's predilection for selfishness or the amount of money and idea buy-in that won't be there.
Prison abolition is like step 7 in the socialist utopia and they can't even get to step 1.

I enjoyed Freddie de Boer asking a bunch of prison abolitionists what they would do with Derek Chauvin, knowing that it would get them saying what they'd do to an irredeemable monster in society. One idea was essentially slave labour for life and if he stepped out of line anyone had the right to murder him.
Prison abolitionists and police defunders are the highest level of luxury belief, and it's only spouted by naive idiots and grifters.

Never heard of him, but he's got an interesting substack even though I don't agree with him

I read his book about how school performance is mostly driven by selecting good students and how we should accept that intelligence is highly driven by factors beyond our control. Pretty good stuff up until the point where he goes "and that's why we need communism".

That was the one he awarded the contest money to for the "best" abolition-based idea (though he clarified that he still thought it was an r-slured idea). All the other ideas that were pitched were even worse which is just hilarious and I want to read them.

"Even Derek Chauvin?" is the corollary of "even George Floyd?" and makes them seethe just as much

The abolitionists and defunders are more foolish, cuz even the Rev. Al Sharpton calls bullshit on their ideas

They constantly bounce between "you'd just have to learn to live next to murderers" and "we'll have mobs who kill people who step out of line", and after the elections there was a healthy dose of "we can't have socialism without purges" among self proclaimed leftists.
The only way these ideas can make sense in these people's heads is if they believe most jailed people are there unfairly, like for weed and prostitution, and everyone opposing them is doing so out of pure hate, and not simply a different idea of what good governance is.
Which, honestly, is probably what they think.

You don't even need to make a statement this strong. If humans are free, they are capable of doing bad things, so how do you respond to that eventuality?
You can argue forever about whether humans are innately selfish, or innately anything. But it's very difficult for the abolitionist to argue all humans are innately good and peaceful.

I want to defund the police because I'm not paying a bunch of fat Mexicans to sleep in a car and make 350k a year.
If there was a way to automate it with drones I would be totally fine but it would require that the drone strikes can be performed with bullets and not bombs
