SEC has vast power to regulate securities, and if you want to sell them in the U.S., you need to jump through a bunch of hoops. It's long been an open question as to what, if any cryptocurrencies fall under their purview. They investigated, determined that HawkTuahCoin was not, and so closed the investigation.

They deserved it in a cosmic sense because we like to think low IQ people will naturally seperate from the smarter people, but in an objective sense where you're trying to create a functional democracy based on the law of large numbers and a bell curve distribution of humans you should probably have protections for the bottom tier of citizens who never asked to be born r-slurred.
