If they can be used as a threat to get better terms in trade negotiations, that's good for American business. If not, that means more reshoring, which is also good for American business. I'm not saying I actually like the idea, but the two things are not mutually exclusive.
I should have said potentially good for workers, definitely not good for the ownership class. But honestly, tariffs are best used to discourage offshoring and we're many decades past that. The logistics of trying to return domestic manufacturing to what it once was would be difficult, and industry would probably be unwilling to try without confidence that these tariffs will still be in place past the end of Trump's term.
how is a massive tax hike on the american public, good for thea merican public?
better yet, how is burning up millions of jobs to maybe, hopefully, bring sock production back to America somehow a good idea?
lay this out for me, how is causing the country massive economic harm, deleting millions of jobs, and also wildly increasing the cost of living in any way good for American workers?
Like I said, I don't think any of this is actually a good idea, but the beliefs you mentioned are not mutually exclusive. I think the average Trump supporter thinks we can use tariffs to bully other nations and if that's not successful, things will just be magically be made in the US again and won't be expensive. That's a facile and generally r-slurred view of macroeconomics, but it's not inconsistent.
If you work in a manufacturing plant that just had their inputs from some third country increase in price by 40% and your Chinese competitor didn't have that happen (because they are not run by r-slurs like trump), then you will be laid off because the Chinese competitor will now r*pe you in every overseas market and you will not sell much. This will happen a lot in the coming months if they don't kitty out of the tariffs or if congress doesn't step in.
Please explain how getting laid off because the president and VP are sub-mongoloid tier is "good for workers".

Tariffs will pressure into domestic manufacturing while making domestic goods cheaper comparatively. Every other country has trade barriers in place so you cant sell chevys in japan or europe while they try to milk american consumers for cash.

People are generally r-slurred, they just present it in different ways. Chuds are r-slurs. They know there is a lot they don't know but they don't have all the answers so they believe things that they want to believe. Since they are r-slurred, what they want to believe isn't consistent or even logical.
Nonchuds are equally r-slurred. They believe everyone is the same (except chuds!) They already know things and the things they believe is all correct since everyone is the same except for chuds. This is why we need more air traffic controllers from Somalia.
