Dorohedoro was pretty good. Weird hyper violent anime where a guy had his head turned into a lizard by a sorcerer. Really liked it but it will never probably get finished.

Bebop was my last favourite.

Hunter x Hunter is the greatest anime of all time and there is absolutely no competition

Steins;Gate
Reasonably strong characters, great story, handles time travel well. Requires high IQ to understand.

One Punch Man
Interesting twist on capeshit. About the mundanity of life when nothing can challenge a superhero who doesn't even want to be recognized.

Your Lie In April
Captures the beautiful and ugly sides of achieving, especially in music. Very emotional. Gay shit like that.

Elfen Lied. German-esque story told through the arts of anime. It's an odd, violent action romance with sci-fi.

For movies, my favorites are Paprika and Howl's Moving Castle.

Ranma 1/2 is some pretty funny boy turns into girl shit, but it really aged poorly as well. I tried watching it a few years back and it's just not the same.

NG:E is pretty cool, first anime that really made me work to try and figure out the story and subtexts.

Initial D is pop-y and mindless.

Darker Than Black is old school and pretty dark, good half way between action and thinking.

To Love Ru is patrician taste

I like Hamtaro.

Violet Evergarden movie blew me away. But for favorite series I'd say Texhnolyze, followed by perhaps Land of the Lustrous and Tatami Galaxy

Texhnolyze is probably one of the best anime I've seen. Though the Monogatari series is my favorite overall; very rewatchable and artsy.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Really good story and animation that has an actual ending in under 1000 episodes and also being as minimally weeb possible.

xxxholic is about a twink that can see ghosts meeting a tall woman that owns a shop that grants wishes. The animation is really odd, everyone has noodle arms but I'm nostalgic watching it. It's made by CLAMP. Very gay tension between the main charcater and his love rival. Overall I really like the relationship between the characters and the feel of the show.

Horny teen me would prob say Ghost in the Shell or Inuyasha, but more recently honestly Konosuba was actually decent if you go in with 0 expectations. Been watching Cowboy Beebop and I really like that as well, the fight scenes are the best I've ever seen in an anime

Evangelion cause best giant robot shit ever* and the creator goes out of his way to say frick you to his fans and they want more. Like Lynch making Twin Peaks the RETURN without bringing Agent Cooper back til the last episode. He put frick all Godzilla in his Godilla film. Shit rocked.

Konosuba is one of the best things to come out of Japan.

I was gonna say AoT but it's too mainstream som I'm saying Dr Stone instead. Reinventing technology is cool and there is not too to much anime weirdness. Senku is also surprisingly nice for an arrogant super genius. Could have been a bit more mature though.

Also Chapose take note. Stop putting libertarian images in your anime threads and they will do much better.

Golden Kamuy is the only weebshit truly worth watching. Adventure historical comedy seinen eminating strong gay energy taking the usual weebshit fanvservice and turning it gay instead.

Ping pong the animation and the Tatami galaxy because Masaaki Yuasa is a genius

Yu Yu Hakusho, because its OG, mature (has regular violence, death, cursing, plus some misogyny & homophobia), strong character development, and the Dark Tournament arc is one of the bests out there.

All modern shonen anime characters are basically rip offs of Yu Yu Hakusho.

Other favs: Cowboy Bebop and Rurouni Kenshin. The early 2000's Adult Swim lineup was solid.

Bleach. The fights are good and the part with spanish japs is fun

Oregairu because Hachiman is literally me.

One Piece. The crew of lovable outlaws led by a pirate who wants nothing more to be as free as he can possibly be, yet this goal (and his lineage) puts him at odds with the (((World Government))) who do everything in their power to obstruct the true history of the world in order to maintain power over their subjects, who they mostly treat like disposable cattle.

oh and it's really funny, the fight scenes are thrilling and it has Captain Buggy-sama.

The “dementia” genre is always a treat to watch. Watched it when I was in middle school, made me feel weird. The kind of anime that leaves you with this bizarre sinking feeling of digging right down to your soul is how I judge how good one is. Then again I was 14 so if I went back it would probably be weird Surface level bro look at how cool all these greek philosophical concepts are?

I like Full Metal Alchemist because it's an anime that even somebody who's not normally an anime fan (like myself) can enjoy and appreciate.

But here's the controversial (dramatic) part: I like the original Full Metal Alchemist anime, not the Brotherhood version.

Not anime but manga... read The Fable. The manga is about a hitman that has to lay low for a while because he's too good at killing so there are all sorts of big-shots sniffing around. Not your typical manga, none of that big bug-eye bullshit and annoying troupes, etc. It's super refreshing and grounded.

Future Boy Conan (1978) because its what played on the TV when I was a kid.

I also liked Captain Tsubasa (1983) and Tom Sawyer anime (1980)

I still remember the opening by heart even if we had to watch in Spanish because there was no money to make a Portuguese dub at the time… This is how Portuguese kids learned how to speak Spanish.
