I'm surrounded by family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors who all seem to believe everything is fine. Or if they do see that something "isn't quite right" with the current state of American politics they insist there's nothing that can be done.
Back story for me, my mom was a hardcore QAnon supporter that abandoned my family in 2021. She has since followed Trump around the country. My husband told me tonight that he was worried I was following my mom's footsteps by being a part of this movement and staying informed on what's going on. I was shocked to hear the comparison.
I feel like the country is on fire, but everyone around me is telling me I'm crazy for being afraid/concerned. This is a 5 alarm fire, right? I'm not crazy?

... is how long it takes for you to start seeing fringe takes on each side.
I've been thinking about this for a while.
Let's start with righties. Fringe rightist ideology would be fascism/nazism, right?
How many nazis and fascists do you see on a daily basis announcing their beliefs?
You have to dive deep to find actual nazis and fascists (not just edgy teens larping). At that point they become their own thing, pretty much separate from the usual right.
However, the same isn't true for the left. It takes no time at all to be exposed to fringe leftist theory. You don't have to search for it, you WILL be exposed to it. I'm talking about Marxist theory. You also have stuff in the progressive/conservative pendulum, which is even more obvious.
Pretty much everything progressive today is fringe. Especially because much of it is about s and made-up gender nonsense, which is absolutely fricking hysterical. Meanwhile fringe conserative (reactionary) takes would be stuff like taking away women's rights, which you won't easily find people arguing for.
As a side note to r-slurred burgers: ''liberal'' is a term related to right wing poltiics, it has nothing to do with progressivism or leftism. We let you have your r-slurred imperial units because it doesn't matter, at the end of the day 1kg is 1kg. But you don't get to twist the meaning of words.

A Quinnipiac poll shows Democratic approval in Congress at a historic low, with only 21% of voters approving. Meanwhile, Republican approval has reached a record high at 40%.
SurveyUSA found that 60% of Democrats believe their lawmakers aren't doing enough to oppose Trump.
A Gallup poll shows 45% of Democrats now prefer a more moderate party direction, an 11 percentage point increase since 2021.
A new Quinnipiac University poll reveals that American voters' approval of Democrats in Congress has hit an all-time low, while approval for Republicans has reached a record high.
According to the poll of 1,039 registered voters, only 21% approve of how Democrats in Congress are handling their jobs — the lowest approval rating in the poll's history dating back to 2009. Meanwhile, 68% of voters disapprove.
Breaking down the numbers by party affiliation, 40% of registered Democrats approve of their lawmakers' performance, while 49% disapprove.
SurveyUSA finds Democrats losing support from their base
A separate SurveyUSA poll of 1,705 registered voters highlights further challenges for Democratic lawmakers. The survey found that only 22% of Democrats believe their elected officials are "standing up to Trump the right amount," while 60% feel they are not doing enough.
Republican approval reaches new heights
In contrast, the Quinnipiac poll shows growing support for Republicans in Congress. Around 40% of overall voters approve of GOP lawmakers' performance — a record high — while 52% disapprove.
Among registered Republicans, 79% approve of their lawmakers' performance, compared to just 10% who disapprove.
Democratic leaders respond to criticism
Facing mounting criticism from within their own party, Democratic leaders in Congress are seeking to address these concerns. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urged patience, telling Semafor, "Trump will screw up."
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries acknowledged the limited "leverage" Democrats have, given Republican control of the House, Senate and White House. However, he emphasized that Democrats are taking legal action against Trump's policies, with more than 65 lawsuits filed over executive orders.
Gallup poll reveals shift toward moderation among Democrats
A recent Gallup poll indicates a growing desire among Democrats for a more moderate approach. According to the poll, 45% of Democrats want the party to become more moderate, 29% prefer a more liberal direction, and 22% want it to stay the same.
This marks an 11 percentage point increase from 2021, when 34% of Democrats favored a more moderate stance.

Behind the tough guy language, there is no argument here. What's the firepower advantage of the respective parties to the conflict? Manpower? How might that change with further NATO action, and how are you proposing to change it?

Trump Gets Broad Backing On Illegal Immigration Crackdown: I&I/TIPP Poll
Background: this and r ezraklein have had the same discussion since the election. Both subs are politically more moderate than most Redditors but are still hopelessly libtarded on some issues. Including illegal immigration apparently. If you want to see what liberal wonks are thinking it's good to check them out.
With all due respect to the poll, does it matter if they have broad backing on an inhumane and grotesque policy? Slavery at one point had broad backing, it didn't make it any more right.
And given that polls are wickedly unreliable it's a pointless gesture to even measure.
You mean it shows how out of touch you and most Democrats are. (-5)
No, we're just not Nazis. But keep on trying champ. Keep on trying.
All nations that deport people are Nazis? Wow that's worldwide then.
Well there are Nazis everywhere. But yes classifying a group of people as "illegal" and then sending them to Gitmo? Yep, that is some Nazi level stuff.
Nazis everywhere! Even under his bed! Does this Redditor go slashing up windmills with Sancho Panza?
Becuase it's not about illegal immigration it's about ensuring a vulnerable population feels threatened. See the chicken plant fiasco from a couple years ago where an ice raid was called by the owners of the plant themselves after the workers were demanding better working conditions and were raising issues of sexual assault from management.
