And since Zelenskyy somehow managed convince west that he is going to push Russian out of whole Ukraine including Crimea so he constantly needed some victories to keep convincing the west that he is winning. Now after 2 years Ukraine didn't had any victories, a Trump showed up and says he is closing the bank.
Ukrainian generals most have Soviet mentality when do fully listening to its country leader and trying not to anger the leader by disagreeing with him. Zaluzhnyy was unique in the way that there was public disagreements between him and Zelenskyy.

Russia recovered from sanctions and has the ability to finish off Ukraine. Ukraine has no man to keep fighting like this. Biden wasn't going to send nato troops to fight in Ukraine or let Ukraine into nato since that was main reason Putin attacked. So why would Putin now stop at back broken khohol and let it join nato ? And west forgot its tactics don't work against countries like this. There was billions article from western sociologists telling how Russian will soon kick Putin out realise they lost and other bullshit made from prism of western society. They also somehow thought when Russian will see a German tank they will get afraid and runaway.
Economically it won't since west europe needs Russia more than Russia needs them, being in primary oligopoly economical sector gives huge advantages. Putin was holding back all those years. He opened gas pipeline to China after he started the fight in Ukraine to neutralise western sanctions. He could had done it a lot earlier and Russia would been richer but seems like he was legit preparing to seriously fight Ukraine.
Sanctions wise he flawlessly won.
