25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'[c]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'[d]”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[e] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,' he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

he can be made to take positive pleasure in the perception that the two sides of his life are inconsistent. This is done by exploiting his vanity. He can be taught to enjoy kneeling beside the grocer on Sunday just because he remembers that the grocer could not possibly understand the urbane and mocking world which he inhabited on Saturday evening; and contrariwise, to enjoy the bawdy and blasphemy over the coffee with these admirable friends all the more because he is aware of a "deeper" "spiritual" world within him which they cannot understand. You see the idea--the worldly friends touch him on one side and the grocer on the other, and he is the complete, balanced complex man who sees round them all. Thus, while being permanently treacherous to two sets of people, he will feel, instead of shame, a continual undercurrent of self-satisfaction.

What did you discuss in church today?
My preacher talked about Exodus, and how it was the first time God partnered with a man to work miracles, and how now God partners with His believers through the Holy Spirit!
Post anything you want me to pray for and I'll pray for it as long as it's not horribly sinful!

I believe as long as you're making a good faith effort to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ then you'll go to Heaven regardless of what specific denomination you follow (There are probably exceptions, like I don't know a lot about Gnostics but they probably don't count) but I gather this is a little weird and most of you believe the other denominations are hellbound? !christians !catholics

Like maybe the goal of /h/atheism is to be annoying but my goal is to spread the loving word of Christ and I don't think I accomplish that by bullying people into hearing it.

According to info received by Mission Rahma, Peru, story of Adam, Eve, snake and the apple happened 70 million years ago, but snake was a reptilian humanoid from Orion named Gadreel, apple was a certain hallucinogenic plant and Garden of Eden was a gigantic Laboratory Ship.

Mark 11:12-25
12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.
15 On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, 16 and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. 17 And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations'[a]? But you have made it ‘a den of robbers.'[b]”
18 The chief priests and the teachers of the law heard this and began looking for a way to kill him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed at his teaching.
19 When evening came, Jesus and his disciples[c] went out of the city.
20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!”
22 “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “Truly[d] I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

I came to UU to escape from the world and the negativity from liberals and conservatives, just to find that they are super liberal🤦🏻♂️
I got myself so caught up in the world's negativity and disapproval of leftist propaganda. I am gay and trans but i feel like the left now goes against what I believe in. So i decided to try to help myself heal at UU. I started going three weeks ago and the second time i went was about the laws against trans kids in my state. Great just exactly what I came here NOT to hear. Is it really going to be like this the whole time? I just don't want to sit there and get preached at that i'm oppressed because, here in America, i'm not. From what I understand, UU is supposed give a sermon and people can pick and choose the good messages that they feel that applies to their life. But I simply cannot do that about the sterilization of children that don't know any better, or other leftist hypocritical talking points. In no way am I conservative, I disapprove of their talking points just as much to make it clear. Please tell me this whole thing is not the leftist agenda pretending to be a religion.
That's enough! It's obvious to me that the OP has not been acting in good faith (pun intended) and we have already gotten many complaints about this mess. So we will act to end this NOW! [ Locked post. New comments cannot be posted.]

Or in KJV if you prefer:
14 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
How may people are going to heck because they make fun of vegans? How many people are going to heck because they make fun of omnivores? Much to consider.

12 My command is fricking this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. 14 You are fricking my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a fricking servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

Actual question and something I've been mulling over for a while. Does the current tax system and subsequent social safety net basically fulfill your duty towards the poor? Provided you're in a 1st world country, of course.
I feel like if you pay into the tax system and the system basically ensures no poor person will starve or go naked (unless by choice), just by paying taxes you've made your minimum contribution to the poor, morally and spiritually.
Idk though because it kind of feels like a cop out at the same time. What are your thoughts?

What did you talk about in church today??? My pastor gave a sermon on Exodus about how it shows God is really loving, but I dont agree with him, I think Exodus requires you to accept that God can be kind of a peepee when he wants to be and that he has that right because hes God
Anyway, post itt about literally anything you want someone to pray for and Ill pray for you, although for the next few hours itll be a prayer via the woman award filter so consider whether thats something you think you can take seriously

Lets literally all thank @A for making /h/atheism unblockable so that literally nobody can escape seeing how repulsive atheism is, while /h/truth will continue to be populated by those who make the beautiful choice to embrace Christs forgiveness!!!

Had a men's only chili contest night at the church yesterday. I came in second in the traditional division. We went over 1 Samuel 1-15, wherein Jonathan displays the ability to move and follow god's calling upon him to route the superior philistine forces. We discussed complacency and how to not be in a rut of complacency when waiting for God to call upon us. What passages have spoken to you this week?

This is a letter I just got from the homeless shelter I've given thousands of dollars to over the past two years (and I don't have a lot of money) that at any given time is half full of BIPOCs.
So to all the !atheists who think you're better than me I'm challenging you to prove it by making a donation to a homeless shelter to help homeless and hungry BIPOCs in your area and post the proof of it here in this thread.
And !christians I'm challenging you to give to prove you're better than the atheists.
Let's see who can put their money where their mouth is.
EDIT: Fair warning to atheists, if nobody puts up I WILL smugly cite this thread in future arguments forever.
