I enjoyed the game but never once thought, "man I wish there was a sequel" :tayshrug:

Probably for the best yeah, I'm sure the sequel would try to rehash the characters again and they'd probably add crafting and base building into it like every other game. Sometimes it's best to just leave things as they are.

I wonder how much of a sequel is possible... I'd probably have had a different character and setting in universe but then you'd lose the unique personality mechanic where your brain is arguing with you

I'd play it maybe if it was a Cuno spinoff where you play as Cuno and just be a c*nt to everyone you meet.

It's heavily implied to be Cuno as the next protagonist. He joins the RCM under you if pass some skill checks during your talks with him(and Kim dies ). Plus him being a former coping junkie allows the fun skills to come back without a lot of hand waving.

Tides of Numenera was a good sequel to Planescape Torment until they ran out of money and the game just ends.

Same. A lot of ledditors and 4chinlets were falling over themselves to show how great the game was. :marseysoylentgrin: "wow they make fun of all political ideologies!!!," but all I saw was soviet sneed about markets.

Best ideology quests were the fascist and ancap quests. It's a shame they're so short tbh.

Staff? I thought it was all made by like a dozen people. It's a unity game with no combat lol

Did they try to expand and hire a bunch of r-slurs?

The cope from this has been delicious. Disco Elysium fans are some of the most obnoxious g*mers ive ever met. Any Ace Attourney game or Ghost Trick mogs it easily.

All the original writers are gone anyway so not getting released is actually a good thing. Watch out for the inevitable 'spiritual successor' that'll no doubt appear at some point

Argo wrote the best characters though and he is still on the team. But I don't think it needed a sequel

Probably not with the same characters since what can you really do than tell the same story again. The atmosphere of bleak nihilism to the point of comedy was the main draw to the game but idk how they could do that again while still telling something original. They set up quite a nice universe though so it'd be a shame if there was no other game taking place in it.

It was already doomed when they got bought. Been saying this.

Jump in the discussion.

It was doomed by the fact they were founded as a 'collective' without any proper structure, and these sorts of arrangements always end with the team consuming itself.

Yeah it was really over when Robert Kurvitz got the axe, that's when I knew there were bad internal problems. But it wasn't the team self-destructing, the controlling shares of their funding got bought by some VC firm in 2021 that axed the leads because they started calling it a fraudulent purchase and trying to recover the IP from them.

One source blamed mismanagement for the current situation, claiming that management was “always acting like there was an enemy, be it the old Disco team, the press, or even people working there” and consequently failed to value its existing talent, allegedly preferring to hire fresh blood from outside rather than promoting employees from within the company. They also said “I don't think women were treated the same and that their work wasn't as valued.”

That's not surprising. So they're scrapping the soys who were holding back the company anyway. :marseyshrug:

Honestly good. The original was a great game, and it was perfect for the medium, and only that medium. No shows, no novels. It's all about what you choose and what your guy is like. Too much fame risks ruining even the first game, there's no way they'd ever have made the second any good.

They fired all the writers from disco? That game was like 60% writing. That's one of the few companies that should have writers instead of just using bullshit from AI.

Turns out the depressed commie writer was a miserable boss with substance abuse problems who treated everyone like shit. In other words, Harry is a self-insert. Then some evil Balt decided to griftmaxx and steal the entire company. Now it's collapsing because his griftmaxxing skills were much better than his game studio managing skills. :marseymanysuchcases:

DE is weird, it criticizes all ideologies but there are a lot of smaller "truths" that make no sense but are treated as canonical solutions. Such as the fact that in a world where there are fully automatic army surplus weapons around every corner the police are equipped with muzzle loaders and if you want H to question that the only options you are given are like "I NEED A BIGGER CANON FOR MY MUUURDER RAMPAGE"

The Reverse Dog Pill is the incel response to the dog pill, and the idea is that if women would rather sleep with dogs than with them, then they in turn will start sleeping with dogs instead of women. The debate around this pill was tagged “SERIOUS” on a popular incel message board – which may be a strong indication it is not, in fact, taken seriously.
