Andrew Tate drama comes to esports

Gonna focus on the /r/globaloffensive thread since I only care about CSGO out of the games sneeding about this.

One of the bigger sneed chains:

Tate? Oh he's just a misogynistic s*x offender human trafficker, nothing too bad

:marseysoyseethe: Nooo! You can't have friends unless they align all their views with current year!!

Carlos called Tate a friend? How the heck could you consider such an ignorant piece of shit a friend?

This is literally 1984 btw

Oh how fast communism came back. Absurd bullshit what are people creating once again only because their life sucks.

Side note, but I absolutely hate this thing redditors do where someone asks for context and they get the most biased explanation of an issue or situation. Makes me seethe tbqh. Luckily, if anyone steps outsideThe Correct Narrative, they will be told to have s*x incel.

There's a few other threads, but I don't care about those communities so I won't be reading them. Feel free to do so yourself. It seems the /r/g2esports subreddit is having a bit of a meltdown, so keep you eye out for big threads on there.

G2esports: In the following days, there's a good chance multiple sponsors drop G2.

G2esports: Why is carlos out partying with a known misogynist days after signing an all female league team?

R6proleague: Carlos and a few G2 R6 players, yikes.

ValorantCompetitive: G2 member and VCT voice expresses disappointment with 'entire situation' after CEO Carlos hangs out with Andrew Tate

G2, I think, is biggest in league, which is probably simultaneously the most politically correct and most toxic of the communities they're in, so I'm sure there's going to be a lot of hot takes in there.

Context

Old School RuneScape is a video game that was created in 2013 based on a 2007 server backup from the game RuneScape, for players who felt like RuneScape lost a lot of the "old school" feel in various post-2007 changes to the game.

One of the quests in the game is called "Lunar Diplomacy", and its plot involves making contact with a group of mystics called the Moon Clan, earning their respect, and taking a drug-induced trip into the inner self to learn about life or something.

The quest ends with a fight against a demiboss called "Me", who models the character's appearance and attacks and has various dialogue lines poking fun at the idea of fighting yourself as a boss fight (e.g. "Stop hitting yourself!").

The drama begins with the following patch note in this morning's update:

An unnecessarily hurtful insult has been removed from the fight against Me in Lunar Diplomacy.

Players quickly discovered that the removed voice line was "You do know those clothes make you look fat!"

Drama follows:

"I loved that line. It's just what people often say to themselves even when it's not entirely true."

"I’m overweight and I think this is ducking pathetic."

"replace it with "The Wilderness scares you like a school girl" lol"

"Holy moly thats incredible. 2 people poopy their pants over fantasy dialogue and they remove it!"

Thread about the validity of "snowflakes"

Another thread about the validity of "snowflakes"

"Devaluates my bread-and-pies-only ironman"

"Guys being obese is good."

"Why is there a giant broccoli in the first image?" (not actually related to the drama, just thought that one was funny)

Probably going to be some more that gets added to these threads later today as people wake up.

EA’s new anti-cheat arrives in FIFA 23 first.

Electronics Arts (EA) is launching a new kernel-level anti-cheat system for its PC games. The EA AntiCheat (EAAC) will debut first in FIFA 23 later this fall and is a custom anti-cheat system developed in-house by EA developers. It’s designed to protect EA games from tampering and cheaters, and EA says it won’t add anti-cheat to every game and treat its implementation on a case-by-case basis.

“PC cheat developers have increasingly moved into the kernel, so we need to have kernel-mode protections to ensure fair play and tackle PC cheat developers on an even playing field,” explains Elise Murphy, senior director of game security and anti-cheat at EA. “As tech-inclined video g*mers ourselves, it is important to us to make sure that any kernel anti-cheat included in our games acts with a strong focus on the privacy and security of our g*mers that use a PC.”

Kernel-level anti-cheat systems have drawn criticism from privacy and security advocates, as the drivers these systems use are complex and run at such a high level that if there are security issues, then developers have to be very quick to address them.

EA says kernel-level protection is “absolutely vital” for competitive games like FIFA 23, as existing cheats operate in the kernel space, so games running in regular user mode can’t detect that tampering or cheating is occurring. “Unfortunately, the last few years have seen a large increase in cheats and cheat techniques operating in kernel-mode, so the only reliable way to detect and block these is to have our anti-cheat operate there as well,” explains Murphy.

EA’s anti-cheat system will run at the kernel level and only runs when a game with EAAC protection is running. EA says its anti-cheat processes shut down once a game does and that the anti-cheat will be limited to what data it collects on a system. “EAAC does not gather any information about your browsing history, applications that are not connected to EA games, or anything that is not directly related to anti-cheat protection,” says Murphy.

Kernel-level anti-cheat systems are becoming increasingly common these days. Activision launched its own custom Ricochet anti-cheat system in Call of Duty last year with a kernel-level driver, and the world’s biggest PC games have been using similar techniques to fight a surge in hackers and cheaters in recent years.

Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™ :!marseydance::marsoy::marseysmugautist::!marsoy::marseydance:

Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch™ | Factorio

For the past one and a half years I've been working on a secret Factorio project. Today we are finally revealing it.

As announced during Nintendo Direct, Factorio is coming to Nintendo Switch! It's already in the final stages and the global release date is set for 28th October 2022.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16841363624771986.webp

Here is what to expect:

  • All of the game's content will be available. The gameplay is not simplified and there are no artificial limits.

  • There will be no mod support.

  • Multiplayer will be available, including playing cross-platform. Nintendo Switch Online is required for online play, but not required for LAN games.

  • Save files are compatible between all platforms. There will be no save transfer feature at launch, but you can transfer your saves using multiplayer.

Performance

One of the first questions you might ask is how does the game perform. We worked on many optimizations to make sure the game performs as well as possible. You should expect 30-60 FPS (both in TV mode and handheld mode). As for UPS, the average player should be able to go through all of the content and launch a rocket, while staying at 60 UPS. But don't expect to be able to build mega-bases without UPS starting to drop, sometimes significantly.

Can you really play Factorio with controllers?

Factorio was developed for 10 years with only keyboard and mouse in mind, so making sure the game is fully playable with controllers was no easy task. Playing with a controller is slightly slower, and will take some getting used to (just as it does when playing with keyboard and mouse for the first time). After becoming familiar with it, I find it very comfortable. I recommend everyone to play through the first levels of our tutorial campaign, as it's a great way to get acquainted with playing Factorio with a controller.

What about Steam Deck and PC controller support?

I actually started working on the port for Nintendo Switch before the Steam Deck was even announced, so first I will finish what I started. Currently the controller support is optimized for and built around the Nintendo Switch system, the Joy-Con™ controllers, and their features. There's still more work to be done for generic controller support, such as dealing with the many controller types, handling mods, ability to switch between "keyboard and mouse" and "controller" modes, etc. Also I want to make it a priority to focus on the initial feedback coming from Nintendo Switch players, to make sure any bigger issues are ironed out quickly. So generic controller support is planned, just that like most things, it will take some time.

Please help with translations

The standard of quality for releasing on Nintendo Switch is high, so shipping with incomplete translations (like we usually do) is not an option. For this reason the game will only include complete and good quality translations. On around the 26th of September I will add the final localization for the release, so I ask our community translators to please make sure your language is 100% translated on Crowdin if you want it to be included in the release for Nintendo Switch. As many texts were added or changed, I will be looking at Crowdin issues the following days, to help translators. Translations for Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese are especially important. Big thanks to our community translators who help make the game more accessible.

The development journey

In next week's Friday Facts, I plan on going into more details about the long development journey, so stay tuned for that.
