The only things I've bought from AliExpress are a Timemore coffee grinder because it's a Chinese brand and a caidao because it's hard to find a carbon steel one in the US without an r-slured markup. Sometimes I look at stationary and knockoff bike components, but slow boat shipping is a good impulse purchase suppressant.
They have some US warehouses now so some stuff arrives pretty quick, but otherwise it's usually a couple weeks.
Their actual return policy is okay it's just that it's full of Chinese scammers so they'll give you a fake tracking number or ship a different item and when you try to return stuff they lie and say it wasn't recieved and Ali will side with them cause their support is dogshit.

Only issue with Ebay is that they had a controversy a while back where they someone of the Executives literally gangstalked someone who criticisized the company. I am not even joking, lol. They sent like pig heads to the guys house and would make the website for them show auctions with creepy items and a bunch of other stuff.
The other issue with Amazon is they let any seller fulfill products and they do little verification if a product is counterfeit.
When you fulfill a product on Amazon, it's sent to their warehouse, and it doens't matter the fulfiller, all the same items are put together.
So even if 99% of the fulfillers for an item are legit, if 1% are fulfilling counterfeit goods, then you still have a chance at getting a counterfeit item.
The way that items are sold on Amazon as well, is based on who can fulfill an item for the cheapest amount. So it incentivizes countefeiting goods. Even if you are willing to spend more money for a "legit" item, you can't do this on Amazon. All the items from fulfillers are sold as the same item, so you are fricked. Amazon is trash, someone sodomoize that strag jeff bezos.
There is no way to prevent this, as far as I am aware.
I am a total ebay shill, like with ebay you can find a good seller, and know all the items they sell are coming from them. Refund & return policy on Ebay is also better, and it's cheaper than Amazon. Customer service is a lot better than Amazon as well. You literally just message the seller directly. Some people like Mecari, but I have never really been into them. Feels like all the best sellers use ebay.

This is one of the few things wingcucks can agree on
They stopped competing on price a while ago and now their only advantages are shipping (which is far less consistent than it used to be but still very fast for the price [free] when it actually works) and their support/refund policy (which is still mostly solid but they've pulled back on a little bit)
The chinesium creep on stuff like charging cables has gotten so bad that you'll get something more reliable from brick and mortar walmart for about the same price ime

there was a time period around 2012 when amazon was actually really good and you could get brand name goods for way cheaper than retail. by the time the first prime day happens the value and quality and selection went downhill
Yes mostly. Amazon used to be the cheapest option especially for more obscure purchases but they're crazy expensive now. I needed a certain type of boot laces for my work books and they were 11 dollars on Amazon.
Out of curiosity I looked them up on the website of the company that makes them and they linked me to a brick and mortar store that had them for 3 bucks

When you buy shit from Ali doesn't it take ages to get here, and the return policy sucks (in comparison)?
tbh the only chinesium shit I buy from Amazon costs like $10 there and buying from Ali just doesn't seem worth the hassle for that little money.
Aren't you supposed to be rich? Why do you care so much about piddly amounts?

Anybody can become an Amazon seller.
I was an Amazon seller at one point, just had to voice chat with Amazon rep to make sure I was a real person and a few other verification things.
Totally not worth it to sell on Amazon though, ebay only takes like 13%, even less if you are a top rated seller (which I was).
Only way to be profitable as an Amazon seller is through selling a ton of items, which is why drop shipping is so common.

think I got weirdass welchs fruitsnacks from one of these fullfillment tricks like a decade ago
I think it was an official listing for a big box, but there were reviews complaining of, well exactly what we got,
which was a bunch of loose random little fruit snack bags in a big ziplock
there was one variety I didn't even know existed (they were all supposed to be the default mix)
and obviously expired, hard with a funky taste, the exp. dates were all smeared out
very strange

Yes, Amazon is just Chinese shit now. Even the branded items are often counterfeits.
Its also not even fairly priced. There is no free shipping, it's just an extra 5 baked into the price.
