Airports and ATC. Redditors will be amazed when they find out they are private in almost all of Europe.
There are no private commercial airports in the US. Almost all the largest commercial airports in Europe are privately owned, governments only own the airports that are too small to be commercially viable.
ATC services are generally private charters, sometimes single per country and sometimes several. They function based on use fees. US GA would get upset because they would lose their gibs but frick em, if you can afford a plane you can afford to fund your own airspace.
I don't get why it's private elsewhere. Alex Jones was sued for a billion dollars for some mean words - what happens when a judge says ATCorp needs to pay 73 gorillion because some r-slur crashed two planes into each other?

I'm on board with Amtrak if they're gonna replace the trains with high-speed ones like the Japs have but I know they wont because theres too many stupids who leave their cars on the traintracks.
they need to replace the rails, not the trains. the viable high-speed corridors are single-track (lmao) and are sharing with freight trains that get right-of-way. so even your bullet train will be doing 0mph for 30 minutes
They can't replace the rails in places where HSR would be useful, ROWs are not straight enough to support higher speed rail.
NE corridor, most of which AmTrak owns, is basically fricked because of NY, CT and MA development. They would need to build a new route across Long Island, up interior of CT crossing MA border near Springfield and then down I90.
PA mainline there isn't a route that would work at all that would connect to anywhere. It can't even operate at top speed right now because parts of the route were drawn by someone with Parkinson's.
NY to DC they could do if they replaced a couple of lanes of 95 with rail. If they operated a RORO service they could even improve the traffic situation, I would gladly pay to not have to drive in Jersey.
Further south it basically becomes pointless until you get to Georgia, distances too large and population too sparse to make sense.
The passenger trains are supposed to get right of way, legally speaking. But the freight companies that own the tracks don't give a shit and our courts are too spineless to break their backs.
Its honestly worse if you do that. Freight is what runs the network economically but by prioritizing passenger services you make more time sensitive users switch over to road. It'll get worse the higher average speed your passenger services are compared to freight, since freight will have to be stopped at sidings to let the passenger pass. We do that legally and govt ended up having to spend tens of billions on another dual track freight exclusive corridor along the two main trunk routes just to get freight to come back from trucks. Honestly in current age for passenger trains its either grade separated bullet trains or nothing. With air as cheap as it is no one has time to ride snail mail competing with freight.
Yeah it's dumb to frick over freight for the sake of passengers, especially in a country like America where people don't really use the train for long distance travel anyways.
I hate how the discussion around mass transport gets so heavily warped by internet neurodivergents' fixation on passenger rail.
They think they can play nintendo switch for 45 minutes every morning instead of being stressed out driving in traffic and parking every day.
The more neurodivergent someone is, the more scared they are of driving. This is reasonable, because neurodivergents often suffer from dyspraxia, sensory overload, and can easily panic behind the wheel.
But if the Japanese can't behave on trains, then I don't think Americans can
In the US it wouldn't be a comfy relaxing video game ride bc there would be full volume tiktok blasting and dancing and scamming
Its honestly worse if you do that. Freight is what runs the network economically but by prioritizing passenger services you make more time sensitive users switch over to road.
This makes literally no sense bb. Passengers are FAR more time-sensitive than freight, it's not even a little close. When stuff needs to be shipped and is time sensitive, they use air freight here.
Like literally the reason nobody considers Amtrak viable is because, due to the freight prio, the passenger trains basically run at like 30 mph. It's virtually always faster to drive currently. The only exception is longer trips where the train can run basically 24 hours (okay not exactly, but they'll run overnight) whereas if you drive you obviously need to stop and stay at a hotel/motel at some point.
Yeah but how much do passengers pay in comparison to freight? When your road network is already so well developed, fuel is so cheap etc trains have it tough competing for passengers and its higher reward to go for freight. On legacy tracks its difficult to breach 100-120km/hr on avg, even China/Japan can't do it. Same for Euros. You need exclusive tracks for high speed trains.

Law enforcement and federal reports found that the deaths were not caused by crew error or faulty equipment, but were all related to either suicides, or people trying to cross and beat the trains.

I would kill so many people for Bay Area hyperloop.
sadly that won't happen. what us more realistic is that they just put the postal services in with other stores. Also the market will then start doing digital mailboxes
