When the video game Custer's Revenge first came out more than 30 years ago, a successful boycott eventually caused it to be pulled from store shelves The controversial video game, made for the Atari 2600 by Mystique (now defunct), depicts indigenous women tied to trees and cacti and r*ped.

When indigenous game designer Elizabeth LaPensée found out this game was again available for play online she took to Twitter to voice her outrage.

"The game reinforces systemic violence against native women," said LaPensée.

Daniel Starkey, a Chickashsha Nation game journ*list, was researching a story about Native American representation in games when he came across YouTube videos of Custer's Revenge. Starkey spoke with LaPensée about his find. The two of them were able to find several game-play footage videos on YouTube, but it wasn't until Starkey dug deeper that he actually found a playable link to a remade version of the game.

"I'm not in a position to go to that link, download it and play it. I don't know how far back that would put me in my personal healing," said LaPenśee from her home in Oregon. But Starkey did download the game to prove that it can be played.

"[It] made me sick to my stomach and brought me to tears," said Starkey. "I respect its right to exist, but it's almost impossible for me to figure out how anyone could consider the game of cultural value to anyone."

LaPensée is a former game journ*list turned game designer. Until now, LaPensée had not spoken out against violence against women in video games. The gaming industry has come under fire for its sexual harassment against women and female game designers and journ*lists have had their safety and lives threatened.

LaPensée said she has stayed quiet for this very reason.

In the last 24 hours, since LaPensée`s initial tweet and the follow-up Twitter conversation, several videos of game-play footage have been taken down. Starkey added the footage violates YouTube's terms of service by containing explicit content and uncensored nudity.

LaPensée said that even though a game like this exists, the indigenous community can change the narrative by replacing the content with positive messages.

"We can make games too. We're completely capable of it. The cowtools are much more accessible, the technology is much more accessible than it used to be," said LaPensée, adding a lot of her work is responding to a game like this.

Landrys is the worst company i ever worked for. And they are also horrible at business. 2024 YR4 is an asteroid recently discovered by scientists in Chile (it's not the flying Tesla "asteroid", this one is legit). It is an "Apollo-type" near-Earth object that crosses our planet's orbit.

This week, scientists learned it had a 1.2%-1.6% chance of hitting Earth on 22 December 2032.

At a diameter of between 40 and 100 metres (130 and 330 ft), an impact with the ground could release approximately 8 megatons of destructive energy.

For reference, that is 533 times the bomb at Hiroshima and more than double the maximum yield of a US Navy Trident II ICMB.

All this places 2024 YR4 at a troubling 3 (out of 10) on the Torino Scale of impact hazards. It is the only non-0 threat, and the second highest ever recorded, exceeded only briefly in 2004 by 99942 Apophis before closer observations revealed that asteroid would not hit Earth.

So that is the bad news. Ready for the good news?

Calculations by NASA and the ESA show that 2024 YR4's "risk corridor" (where it would hit) doesn't pose a threat to anywhere important.

I was actually sort of happy about it after the oversaturation of male entitlement in my teens and twenties. 35 is the first year I've (personally, not speaking for anyone else) started to feel sexually invisible to the average passerby and it's just so... weird? Hard to explain, but it felt like I could hold people's attention (not even sexual attention, but general attention) without even trying before, but now I actually have to do something extra in order to secure my position.

To be honest, I've even been wondering if I have a worse personality than previously thought, because people generally even seem to find me less interesting now as well; they respond with more politeness compared to, well, genuine enthusiasm... and I don't just mean hetero men, but other women as well; society at large, really. Like, have I been very boring all this time, but people were only interested in what I had to say because I was a pretty young thing? (I'm probably not describing all of this very well, but it's a feeling I've really been stewing in this year.)

I feel like I actually hit a happy medium in my late twenties to early thirties and the equilibrium has shifted over too much now, but I digress. The other way I cope is just glowing up my appearance in ways I have neglected, like slowly shedding the weight I've put on these past few years and revamping my wardrobe a little - things that may not make a huge difference to other people, but help me tolerate my own reflection better.

It's nasty how much people feign interest in your mind and what you say just because you're attractive. I've been used by one too many guys because of that. One thing that sticks with me as a single woman is to pay attention to how a man I'm interested in treats women who he isn't attracted to. Does he genuinely listen and contribute to conversations with older women, fat women, trans women, etc. or does he only see and respect conventionally attractive women.
