GameStop shares fall 20% after it files to sell additional stock, says first quarter sales dropped
GameStop will sell up to 45 million common shares in an at-the-market offering.
The video game retailer reported preliminary results that showed a drop in first-quarter sales.
The news comes after GameStop's stock surged earlier this week in a brief revival of the meme stock trade.
GameStop shares tumbled 20% Friday after the video game retailer said it plans to sell additional shares and reported preliminary results that showed a drop in first-quarter sales.
In a new regulatory filing, the video game retailer said it will sell up to 45 million class A common shares in an at-the-market offering. The sale comes after GameStop shares surged earlier this week in a brief revival of the meme stock trade.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, GameStop said it now expects net first-quarter sales in the range of $872 million to $892 million, down from around $1.24 billion in the same quarter last year. Two analysts polled by FactSet said they expected a first-quarter revenue of around $1 billion.
GameStop's first-quarter net loss is expected to be between $27 million and $37 million, narrower than a net loss of $50.5 million in the year-earlier period. The brick-and-mortar company has been grappling with competition from e-commerce-based competitors. In late March, GameStop announced an unspecified number of job cuts to reduce costs.
The rally in GameStop this week appeared to be partially fueled by posts on X from the long-dormant account of โRoaring Kitty,โ also known as Keith Gill, one of the key figures in the 2021 meme stock mania. GameStop hit a high of $64.83 per share on Tuesday, up more than 200% from close on May 10.
The rally fizzled out later in the week, with GameStop dropping sharply on Wednesday and Thursday. Shares closed Thursday at just $27.67, down more than 50% from the highs of the week. Net retail trader inflows have been much smaller than the amount seen during the trading frenzy three years ago.
Michael Pachter, a Wedbush analyst covering GameStop, said GameStop is not in a position to be profitable.
โThey made $6 million last year and burned cash,โ Pachter said. โWe expect them to lose $100 million a year going forward. It's a race to see if they can close stores fast enough to limit losses, but they have no plan that would suggest they can grow revenues or profits, and their core business is in decline.โ
Pachter has an underperform rating on GameStop and a $5.60 price target.

It is difficult to treat anovulatory infertility in obese women because, as mentioned above, the obese women have a lower chance of conception following ART as they require a higher dosage of gonadotropin, respond poorly to ovarian stimulation, and have a higher risk of miscarriage.
It's time for Reddit

Weight as a standalone factor does not cause infertility. There is evidence to suggest that people on the high end and on the low end of the BMI scale have a longer time to pregnancy than someone in the middle. Weighing 10 more pounds than you want to will not suddenly make you infertile.
Came here to say this too. That having a low BMI and being underweight is also counterproductive to fertility. I'm naturally thin and live a healthy lifestyle but have been trying to get more healthy fats and protein to be in a higher BMI range for TTC. Everyone has their own challenges. You may never really know what is affecting fertility as well so the statistical definition of a healthy BMI for TTC is only part of the puzzle.
Yes anorexia is serious problem, less than 1% of women in US have anorexia and this % includes children so in adult women the percentage is like 0.01% so yeah very important when at least 40% foids are landwhales so that would mean per 4000 obese women only 1 will have anorexia so obviously women will focus fixing anorexia instead of other problem.
I mean, I understand that. I'm an MD with a certification in Pediatric Weight Management, so I have a lot of baseline understanding regarding the pathophysiology of obesity, mainly in pediatric patients. But it clearly affects fertility a lot more than many of the other things discussed frequently on this sub, so as I begin to go past the time by which most couples conceive, I'd like to collect as much info as I can.
FWIW, I'm 10lbs into the obese range, but I weigh about 40-50lbs more than I'd like to.
Take a downvote b-word, for phatophobia
I'm very much of the opinion that bigger bodies carry healthy pregnancies more often than not. BMI is not a great indicator of health and there is always more nuance to these studies than is truly captured in data. There are studies that certainly show increases in time to pregnancy and increases in rates of anovulation with high BMI. While these are statistically significant the difference is often minimal.
this is such a helpful and thoughtful response!
