Just remember that everybody perceives the world from themselves outwards, and while you may perceive yourself as the central character of your story and ask yourself why they didn't show up for your birthday, they perceive themselves as the central characters and their narrative is about their passionate weekend together. And to make things even more complex, this whole time neither you or them are aware that the central character of this narrative is secretly me and you're all just minor side characters in my story.

I had a birthday party recently and a few friends didn't come last minute and I was anxious about it. But when I realize I'm surrounded by family and friends who did come and who love me I didn't worry about it and spent time with them.
Also I've had to cancel going to a birthday party, it's not about the birthday person it's usually another situation. Dont over think it and don't blame yourself. I'd continue being their friend if their friendship is more positive than negative. If they flake more often in the future then maybe that's a red flag. Hope you had a great birthday!
