The Wayback Machine hasn't been able to save images hosted on Reddit for months :marseycryinglaptop:

It stopped working many months ago, when Reddit started redirecting image links to their www.reddit.com/media links. The image viewer thing is kind of helpful in that it tells you which post the image came from, but this is overshadowed by the fact that it prevents you from viewing the image directly. Thus, the Wayback Machine cannot archive the image.

I sent a wordswordswords email to the Internet Archive about it, and they unfortunately said they couldn't change it.

Hi,

No... I am very sorry but Reddit is much harder to archive now than it was in the past.

We are doing the best we can.

  • Mark Graham, Director, the Wayback Machine at the Internet Archive

ArchiveTeam also had difficulty archiving Reddit due to bans and paused their project. (Does anyone here know if there are logs of their IRC channel #shreddit?) At least PullPush works (for now), but it doesn't archive images. Luckily, archive.today and ghostarchive.org are still able to save Reddit images. :marseyheart:

If you are annoyed by Reddit not letting you view images directly, here are some extensions I have not tried at all. They work by modifying the Accept header sent by your browser.

EFFORTPOST Mr President :marseybush: a third scandal :marseyplanecrash: has hit the PC industry :longwhiskers: (Spoiler a woman ceo :marseyfoidretard: maybe responsible :marseyextinction: )

After the Artesian build drama, bring LTT to its knees, my boi Steve did some journ*lism again.

G*mersNexus = A small but very reliable hardware review channel on youtube - The presenter is Steve also called Tech Jesus because of apperance

LTT = Linus Tech Tips, biggest tech youtuber who got exposed as useless by G*mersNexus

Artesian Builds - Custom PC assembler company which was embroiled in a huge controversy last year Read about it here https://g*mersnexus.net/features/inside-collapse-artesian-builds-20000000-bankrupt

EKWB = EK Water Blocks - Custom PC water cooling parts company, makes pumps, blocks etc https://www.ekwb.com/

!g*mers !effortposters

TLDR

  • GN does expose of EKWB with information from whistleblower employees

  • GN Contacts as many people as they can, suppliers, ex-empl/contractors and gets info

  • Its all real, and vetted like a good journ*list

  • EKWB CEO Does the BP Oil spill "We're Sorry" spiel

  • GN Digs deeper, more people come forward and spill the beans

  • Konig was the CEO until the :marseyfoidretard: took over as CEO in 2019

  • Foid CEO replace by Konig again, and thus the FOID is absolved of all Reponsibilities

  • GN Exposes a LITTANY of shady finances and other violations, law breaking activities and most importantly Racism (check screenshots below :marseyghostlaugh: )

  • ALL accusations are backed up by evidence

I left this open because there's simply no way of not looking suspicious otherwise.

However, as usual, the comments and general lack of knowledge astound me. Heck, I'm surprised at the shear quantity of scathing comments regarding the pricing. Competition exists, just buy a cheaper brand? Watercool is always cheaper and the quality is solid, why just hate on a brand for no reason if you have no intention of buying their product anyway? Either way, regardless of the outcome of all this, very disappointing news, and very disappointing seeing what this sub can be like.

Part 2 Thread: https://old.reddit.com/r/watercooling/comments/1cfeoyg/exposing_corruption_eks_prison_threats_lawsuits/?sort=controversial

Now the :marseyjanny: falls in line

This kind of scandal NEVER ends well in communities as small as these. Larger companies can get away with this kind of shit because most people don't know/care. Spaces as small as watercooling? Word gets around fast because almost everyone is keeping an eye/ear out. A different scandal happened in the home theater space where Lexicon got caught taking cheap products from other companies and slapping their own label on them without changing anything (except the price by a factor of 10x), ruined their reputation permanently and now the brand is essentially dead weight in Harman's lineup. Didn't matter that they had made some of the finest home theater equipment in the past, the brand's reputation was effectively ruined. With the half-assed apology and the fact that EK has already been slipping in terms of quality over the years, I can't see them coming back from this. Will they still be around? Perhaps, but I don't think they'll be nearly as big as they once were in the industry after this and there's no way that whatever crawls out of the ashes is going to be able to offer anything even remotely close to their current catalog. They'll have their loyalists I'm sure but there's no way they'll be able to maintain the brand as it stands.

Now do ya'll remember the LTT Expose he did? yeah the LTTcels haven't stopped coping seething and dilating about it

:#marseyxd:

:smugtranstwitter: Yeah, I was under the impression y'all had literally any clue what you were talking about with this line, but seeing as the NYT case has now proven that you absolutely do not need an overfitted model (and can, in fact, use an overfitted prompt to replicate the body of copyrighted texts) I'm not sure why anyone would find this line of thought convincing.

"Overfitted prompt"? 🤣 🤣 🤣

You don't know what overfitting is, yet you still have the audacity to share your opinion on the thing.

:smugtranstwitter: Please continue loudly declaring that you know nothing.

Overfitted prompt

:smugtranstwitter: Yeah. What else would you call what the NYT case has put up for display?

Edit: Actually nvm u probably wanna ignore as much of that as possible huh?

If the work its transformed enough to get away with saying it is your own, it is no longer a copyright violation.

:smugtranstwitter: LMFAO HOLY SHIT THAT IS SO NOT HOW COPYRIGHT OR PLAGIARISM WORKS HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Strangely enough it is.

In United States copyright law, transformative use or transformation is a type of fair use that builds on a copyrighted work in a different manner or for a different purpose from the original, and thus does not infringe its holder's copyright.

:smugtranstwitter: What an actually fricking pathetic piece of shit you have to be to try to lie so blatantly. If you take someone's written work and re-edit it so that it follows a different narrative structure but still use their work completely word for word, saying the words you stole in front of a camera and making the written work into a video, you're still a fricking plagiarist, and if people believe you when you call it your own work, you're still a plagiarist.

:smugtranstwitter: So what you have is a for-profit "tool" for the mass violation of the copyright of all training data for any user who knows the right prompts to use. Does that not present a massive security and copyright concern? Not just for image generative AI, but also for text-based LLMs? If literally anyone can recreate the full body of copyrighted text with "overfitting" as simple as "what is the next paragraph?", should the people carelessly profiting from these "tools" not be held liable for that?

Whatever device you used to post this comment is a copyright violation.

:smugtranstwitter: It's really just "haha you use iPhone capitalism good ooh-ooh-aa-aah-throws shit" logic this morning?

BIC sells copyright-violators for less than a buck.

:smugtranstwitter: Well that would be a great argument if you lazy wastes of human sperm could be bothered to pick up a pen and learn to draw.

Aww, thread wasn't going the way you would like?

:smugtranstwitter: No, I was expecting people to actually contribute thoughtful conversation, rather than pretending buying a pen and tracing the Mona Lisa's face is the same as a generative AI recreating the Mona Lisa's face in full when told to draw a smiling woman in a Renaissance style. Guess that's my mistake to expect anything resemble critical thought from the people who can't grasp Starship Troopers and Helldivers.

Don't quote me on this but I believe you can also violate any copy right with a pencil

:smugtranstwitter: Wow, crazy. It's almost as though there's a difference between the fair personal and/or transformative use of copyrighted work and generating the body of copyrighted works to present as your own.

:smugtranstwitter: The U.S. is a failed society actively in decline. The contradictions of capitalism are sharpening, and AI is seen as a golden goose for an ever more enshittified tech industry that has for so long been drowning in cheap venture capital and wall street investments that simply don't exist anymore, almost entirely on the premise that AI will eventually be able to automate much of the skilled labor that these venture capitalists still have to pay so much for. Between Disney's deepfakes, or video games and animation studios trying to use AI-generated assets and voice actors, or even this most recent class of utterly incompetent programmers who just have ChatGPT write their code for them and they just tweak it until it just barely passes muster, it's clear what the suits at these big tech companies pouring so much money into AI want to do with it, regardless of whether or not the technology even has the potential to do so. If you want to talk philosophically, why should we treat generative AI like technology that came before it? It's clearly not being used like other technology that came before it, and this isn't the turn of the 19th century.

I mean....ok. You threw a bunch of labels I barely understand at me in an attempt to ignore my point. I guess if that's your coping mechanism, more power to you.

Given your post, these comments, and well our interaction I don't think you're in a very stable position mentally. This isn't the behavior of a rational or productive person, and I admit I probably shouldn't keep goading you on. Have a good life, and hopefully one day you stop jumping at shadows.

I don't speak for anyone else, but I fundamentally don't respect copyright or IP and think both that is has no moral basis and that practically speaking it's detrimental to mankind.

:smugtranstwitter: Ah, got it. Just loudly yelling that all art should be subsumed for profit until eventually there's nothing left. Lemme guess, you're also one of those who don't get the satire of Helldivers 2 and Starship Troopers?

Microsoft reportedly begins showing full screen Windows 11 ad on Windows 10 PCs as end of support date looms

Windows 10 PCs that are in-eligible for Windows 11 are seeing full screen warnings about next year's end of support date.

The full screen prompt that is now appearing on some Windows 10 PCs thanks the user for their loyalty using Windows 10, and warns that this end of life (EOL) date is approaching. It also wastes no time advertising Windows 11, encouraging the user to learn more about how they can transition to a new Windows 11 PC. Notably, there's no button to tell the prompt to never show again.

Windows 10 PCs that are in-eligible for Windows 11 have two choices when it comes to wanting to remain secure beyond October 2025: Buy a new PC with Windows 11, or pay Microsoft for extended security updates on Windows 10. Pricing for these extended security updates hasn't yet been revealed for individual users, but business customers will have to pay $61 for the first year, per device.

Hackernews discusses if npr is just a wing of the dnc

Intermittent fasting, aka time-restricted eating, can help people lose weight—but the reason why may not be complicated hypotheses about changes from fasting metabolism or diurnal circadian rhythms. It may just be because restricting eating time means people eat fewer calories overall.

No shit Sherlock. As always the article is boring and I won't post any of it here. Let's go :marseychonkerfoid:-hunting in the top comments.

I think people find the "calories in vs calories out" rhetoric reductive is because it implies a simplicity that doesn't fit many people's lived experiences. Not everyone will absorb the same amount of calories after eating the same sandwich, or store the same quantity of calories in adipose, and not everyone will expend the same amount of calories when they jog for a particular distance of length of time. A person's microbiota influences caloric absorption. Hormones, epigenetics and genetics also play a role in metabolism. At rest, not all bodies use energy at the same rate. If we deprive the body of calories, not all bodies scale back the same expenditures at the same rate to conserve energy. So yes, calories in vs calories out is true, but not all true statements are helpful statements.

:#marseychonker2:

Yes, and what this study proves is that while it's always as simple as “fewer calories means less weight”, how the “fewer calories” happens isn't always “just eat less”.

Often the “eat less move more” is used incorrectly because of course it's technically true but most people when discussing diet are trying to talk about a method to eat less, move more.

It's always frustrating when talking about a technique of how to do X, only to have a bunch of people yelling “just do X!”.

Just eat less.

Also "most people when discussing diet are trying to talk about a method to eat less, move more" is bullshit. Most people when discussing diets are looking for some magical food that will cause them to lose weight. No one on a diet discusses how they should move more.

As the arrticle says, this does seem obvious (esp since Ive tried it myself) but as a (non-nutrition) scientist it would have been exciting had they found something unexpected. Sigh. But good work regardless.

BTW while calories in/calories out is absolutely true it's not automatically obvious how many calories you get from eating X. The rating on the box comes from burning food in a calorimeter! Meanwhile your body can extract calories more easily from a small piece of doughnut than from a large, fibrous chunk of broccoli, even if they have the same number of calories on the label. To say otherwise is like saying, “well all chemistry is quantum mechanics” — completely true, but mainly in-useful.

Thanks for that, scientist.

I do time-restricted eating, but that's because I have acid reflux. Don't want tp be slamming a double cheeseburger, fries, and a coke 1/2 hour before bed.

Acid reflux is the only thing stopping this guy from slamming a double cheeseburger, fries, and a coke 1/2 hour before bed. I wonder why he has acid reflux?

So very much this. The whole “CICO”/“it's just physics!” crowd is infuriating.

Like, yes, of course the key to losing weight is to consume less than you burn. But that is by itself not a sufficiently useful strategy for addressing a population-wide obesity crisis.

Preaching sexual abstinence doesn't solve unwanted pregnancy, and preaching food abstinence doesn't solve obesity. You want people to overcome their most basic biological drives, they need more than a Nike slogan.

"Noo we have to account for the fact that everyone is incredibly dumb"

I tried the whole "eat a big breakfast so you won't need such a big lunch" thing. Doesn't work for me. I just wind up with three big meals a day instead of two, if I do that.
