Yeah, they get a frickload of new sales every update. It's also a very small team and they made tens of millions at launch and not many people actually wanted a refund. They could have cut and run and retired, but NMS was and is like a legitimate passion project for them, so they kept working on it and still keep adding things that they personally want to play with in it + things everyone else wants too and it really is the best possible system for vidya development. Just like 16 dorky white dudes making the game they always wanted to play and then actually playing it and making it better based on that.

I finished Armored Core 6 in like 15 hours. I don't know how r-slurs play Fromsoft games for numerous/hundreds of hours, there's literally nothing to do. "oh but muh new game plus+ where they've moved this item to another location!". Then there's the giga neurodivergents that spend hundreds of hours in a half baked barebones pvp mode with shit netcode; it's a literal afterthought and people eat that bug shit up.
With that said, the 90 AUD I spent on AC6 wasn't worth it, given that the "continuation" of the game is artificial filler bullshit, and the pvp mode is barebones bullshit.

I like it well enough. The faction quest lines are pretty good. I hate how empty it is. In fallout/Skyrim half the fun is getting distracted by a dozen things on your objective. Also the combat AI is downright broken. Thankfully there's a mod that fixes it but man. That was atrociously boring the first few hours.

Starfield is pure soulless trash. The gameplay is barebones and the story/dialogue is just god awful. Imagine an entire multiverse filled with redditors.

I'm pretty sure 90% of the named NPC's are black/indian women. Darn near every female NPC is a “boss b-word with attitude.” Everyone has Marvel-tier snark that completely falls flat and makes every character extremely annoying to interact with. They will oscillate rapidly between saying you are worthless and begging you to do everything to save them.
The voice acting is so bad across the entire game, that someone could vastly improve it by giving every character an AI voice.
I did a quest for a faction of people who were stranded for hundreds of years before I came to help them. They had no contact with the outside world and thought they were the last humans alive. As a reward, they gave their gun that was invented by the rest of the galaxy during their isolation, a future version of an M1911. Ironically, an actual M1911 exists in-game.
99% of named NPCs are essential, and thus unkillable. Some of them literally do not respond to any kind of damage and is akin to shooting a wall or static object.
There are random features that have literally no impact on the game, such as ship fuel, outpost building, health effects, and environmental damage/resistance. The last one is really funny too, because you start off the game being like “oh, it's warning me about the cold, I guess I need cold gear?” only to quickly realize “oh it doesn't actually do anything.” You can visit any type of planet without any preparation and you'll be completely safe.
Bros, I am unironically livid anytime I think of this game. I just wanted a 7/10 space bethesda game, not this garbage. These complaints are honestly nitpicks compared to the structural issues of the game. I legitimately lost respect for people who told me they liked this game, it's like finding out someone is a marvel superfan.

The amount of systems that seem, like, vestigial is weird. The environmental protection stuff especially since it's so broken. I got frostbite in a temperature that irl I'd just wear a coat in, but apparently like 100 below freezing is fine.

Its fun but the big issue (and why I quit a few days in) is I have no idea where fricking anything is. The star map is confusing and horrible to navigate and theres no way to track details of places I've been. The quest log is just 100+ lines with zero details or indicators of where I was.

Then on top of that commandeering ships pointless generally. Only way to sell one is to register it and registration is…usually the value of the ship. I can kill a guy and sell his shit gun for $500 and jump through hoops to end up selling a ship for…$1000.

This makes sense for economic balance, but how about they just make it real hard to get ships then? As in, they usually self-destruct with an escape pod, and so it's really exciting when you do capture one and get full value? But I guess that's too obvious.

Getting ships is a big time commitment and pretty RNG. Theres this shit targeting mechanic where you have to target their engines however theres not a clear indicator when the ship is actually damaged enough to board unless you get right next to it.
There's almost always multiple ships you have to fight and you have no time to peepee around with targeting when multiple are shooting you, so you just destroy them all until one is left. You don't get much opportunity to actually save the valuable one. Adding onto that, you dont even know the value of individual ships until you land them.
Then you have to board, wait for loading scene, kill crew, make sure the ships storage is big enough to hold all the shit on your current ship (because it literally just evaporates if the new ship has less storage), then you fly the ship back.
If you're luck you make $1000 from this, when you could instead just land on a planet, kill 5 people and steal their garbage and sell for $5000.
Oh and the ship will also be damaged and need $1000 minimum in repairs.
The whole thing just feels like it wasn't thought through at all.
Not to mention theres so many ships that the game just decides are “inaccessible” for no discernible reason. Complete RNG when you find one thats landed, kill the whole crew, then find out you just arent allowed to fly that particular ship. Or dumber, it will say it requires a keycard that is nowhere to be found on the pilot or crew.
Everything space related is basically a loading screen mechanic that they use for lazier world development.
