prior to section 230 it was a much more gray area, i don't know if there were prior court cased making it official or if it was just a common r-slurred belief that a site had to make a decision between complete free-for-all and strict moderation ensuring nobody defamed anyone or posted anything even a little bit illegal.

The model reddit can use to become profitable is the same as pay to win mobile games. Attract a small core of hardcore users who will buy every new update immediately at sticker price, and a vast array of drive by users who log in a half dozen times in a month, throw a few dollars it it for some cosmetic shit, and then never show up again.
Instead they have a cabal of terminally online powerusers who likely use adblocks, only draining money into server usage while ruining the experience for casual users so they don't bother dropping the few bucks on skins before they frick off forever.

It's too late. The badmins already gave them too much. Maybe this is Spez' wake up call moment, but yesterday I went to all of the submissions about the "we call on the admins"...post and the communities that were not being SANE and saying, "But ... how the frick do you determine what's misinformation"...were seething at the opportunity to ban in particular r/conservative. The srdines had a post full of seethe about r/conservative being for conservatives.
The best time to submit to the conservative subs is 6am and 6pm. Before work and after work. That's who will buy the products reddit wants to advertise. Not teen furries in Italy. Banning The Donald hurt reddit more than it realizes because the word went out that the site is not for anyone right of Bernie. PCM is the only place on reddit where there is conversation that crosses political boundaries and there's a hard on to shut it down. When people say, "If this sub goes away I'm leaving reddit" they are being honest. Many have already left reddit and only look at it in horrified curiosity.
Sure, it's true that young people are coming to reddit...but flourishing conversation there between people who disagree is gone. The admins have conversation and work with the old guard of powermods, but they initiate no conversation with any of the mods on the right leaning subs. Now the powermods that they catered to are demanding REPECK and for the admins to cave to their demands. Reddit deserves this.

They look at the crowd they attract, and how easily those users part with their money on OnlyFans, Funko Pops, Disney+, and Uber Eats and think "Why can't we get in on that action?" Conservative moderator experience: (jannying for free) Log onto reddit. See 93 things in modqueue. Go "WTF". Go to modqueue and see that people have mass reported every submission on the subreddit as "misinformation" and a bunch of the comments, too. Find zErO actual incidents of "misinformation" that deserves to be removed. Repeat for months. Go to modsupport and make a well constructed post asking the admins to please reconsider "misinformation" as a report reason because it is vague and gives the reporter a plausible deniability that they are abusing the report button. Ask them to maybe consider making it "Covid misinformation" if that's what they want to crack down on. Have the post get some traction. Get a reply from Bardfinn saying, "Maybe you shouldn't have so much misinformation on your subreddits." Consider getting a VPN and ten alts to spend an hour a day reporting everything on subs Bardfinn mods as "misinformation" so he can actually have a taste of what you go through. Decide it isn't worth your time. Have several other shitty lefty powermods come into your post to comment about how you mod conservative subs and should expect it since your subs have so much misinformation. Think, "At least I tried."
Check mod support a week later and see that some lefty powermod has made a post asking for admins to remove the misinformation report reason and see the same mods that tried to shit on you chiming in to say, "This is a good idea. It really is being mostly abused."
Think: "Frick everything about all of this. Reddit isn't even enjoyable to post on anymore. I'm done EVER buying any more reddit awards. I respect the people I mod with and will continue to mod, but if I get kicked out of here I'm never coming back." Get suspended from reddit. Have a blissful week. Don't even appeal. Find out you got unsuspended from reddit. Come back and janny. Finally get suspended from reddit... freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedom!

I wish, but the sub with lots of info got gigajannied. Her name on bluelight was Evelbibe (something like that), so her nickname was Evey. That's not her real name, but when people moved to reddit, she would report mentions of her "Evey" name as doxxing and told jannies it was her real name. Jannies have no idea so they assumed it was and removed any threads with the "evey" name.
