I lied on my Tax Return. What are the chances I'm gonna get audited and assraped

I made about $14k USD last year. I did dabble in stocks and crypto (and lost $8k) but due to the wash sale rule I couldn't even get the max $3k deduction. So for my crypto stuff I just lied by filing as a single statement instead of a summary of statements, added the deposits together as the cost basis, then added the withdrawals together as the proceeds. So I now have the max $3k capital loss deduction.

Because I'm a poorcel, surely they won't find out. Right? All this did was increase my refund by about $200 USD.

i'm only going off leaf tax stuff (which may be more stringent bc the tax rate is so high and it goes toward healthcare n shit?) but i lie on my taxes all the time, tho most of my tax fraud is stuff the government can't rly trace. also a poorcel. idk about your specific situation but i've never had an issue, i would imagine since the refunds we're getting are so small they don't care to audit but that's just my experience. how easy would it be for them to find out about your thing if they investigated? could it pass as a mistake? my first year i made a mistake and the CRA sent me a letter saying i had to pay back the extra return amount i got, if it's only $200 that's not too bad rite?

i didn't even actively pay mine, i was broke and in university so i just let the negative balance sit until the next year when my new return paid off that balance 4 me. they didn't hound me or add extra fees or anything. idk if IRS is as nice tho

tldr if you're not committing fraud you are gay (pejorative)

People will call you an r-slur because they'll always advocate for the cautious approach when it comes to this kind of stuff. The chances of anything bad happening are very low but getting away with it often breeds further questionable actions that will increase your chances of trouble.

Some time you don’t even need to troll. One case was that I had to go to a police office with a Moldovan man and the police officer told that this Moldovan man has beaten a man in a bar fight so he is in big troubles. But the Moldovan man was telling me that he don’t drink or goes to the bars and that day he wasn’t even in the city. Then next day I went again with this man and his evidence to the police office and he actually couldn’t been at that bar when the fight happened so police officers couldn’t do anything. But than 2 months later that man again asked me to translate something and I asked him so what was that deal with the bar and he told me it was actually his younger brother who looks like him that was in the bar

If you're really paranoid about it, there's a feature on their website to get a 'transcript' of every document they've received from reporting institutions about your income during the year (assuming they didn't change it in the recent redesign; didn't look this year). Typically that's only going to be W-2s and certain kinds of 1099s. If it's not on there, they don't know about it in any form that a computer could automatically catch you on. Crypto people tend to get more manual attention as I understand it, but you're just not that important. Mostly, they just want to get paid, so your realistic worst case isn't the penalties assraping, it's cutting them a check for the balance.

t. got creative with reporting some income sources long enough ago that I don't mind posting about it online.

Jump in the discussion.

If they catch it, you will just get a letter to pay it. I doubt anything will happen, but it won't be bad if it does. They will just send you a letter that you need to pay the amount.

I still made a lot of money off some exchanges, it's just that at the end I ended up losing it all + more. So even without the wash rule I'd be paying more taxes because of capital gains from particular successful trades.

You're probably not worth going after.

The IRS didn't receive cost basis info from brokerages until ~2008. Depending on your crypto brokerage, they might not have submitted any docs to the tax glowBIPOCs. Anyway, there are bigger fish to fry in the crypto space. For the stock trades, the IRS definitely knows you cheated because the brokerage sends them a Form 1099-B.

Intuit lobbied the government to keep tax filing annoying, and the entire IRS runs off of 60-year old COBOL code.

This isn't getting fixed anytime soon. A smart person can probably figure out ways to beat/game the system.

Technically my crypto was done over a year through various purchases and sales, but this was on coinbase pro which didn't provide me a 1099 so I said frick it and just added up the Deposit / Withdrawal tabs like a monkey. Honestly even if I wanted to be honest I don't think I would have been able to provide an accurate report, because I messed with so many currencies at so many prices, there's just no way I would have been able to keep track of it.

poors make up the bulk of targets for the IRS

So for instance you. Since you fill out these forms and all of your income is tracked (lol) so you just get flagged when you lie.

Lets look at me.

Now i've been seen on a lot of different scenes, that means I get a lot of different cream. I have the money to have a lawyer on retainer.

If the IRS calls me tomorrow I would call my lawyer and they would take it from there and I would pay the fees to fight the IRS from the word "hello". Every document they request will go through my law partners who will do their best to shield me from an EXTERNAL non-government oversight bureaucrat gangbang.

The IRS knows that to get me for the whatever five digits I lie to them about, I will drag them through the court to get that 20k.

So for you they will absolutely get you for the money you lied about because you are going to shit yourself when they call or email you.

When they call me I will be like, "oh nice" and see how long I can get them to fight me for 10k or something in back taxes or whatever. Like if I can get the government to spend a quarter of a million dollars in salaries to come after me for 5k I will spend 50k to do it.

Frick the government and frick all the people that work for them!

Intuit is extremely aggressive in bribing lobbying politicians and bribing helping the media to kill any legislation that will simplify the tax code because it would hurt sales of TurboTax. A company that brings in $10 billion in revenue is able to cost $100 billion in losses to the government and taxpayers who have to deal with this shit. The next time somebody tells you that the other race/religion/gender/whatever is the cause of your problems, remember that Intuit is fricking everyone on a very personal level.

I kept getting hit with those darn CP2000 notices over my tuition. Every year I'd send the same reply, but the followup varied between $0, $370, and $1800 owed. Followup reply saying "this same thing happened last year, why do i still owe 1800 this year" dropped it to 0

(Tldr: paid tuition to an apprenticeship bureau, who paid the college on my behalf. When i claimed that tuition, IRS bounced back that the college had no record of me paying that, their 1099 would only show secondary classes i directly paid for like first aid)

It's not guaranteed but is it accepted? I keep forgetting to report stuff sometimes. Like once I forgot I had youtube money in excess of a thousand dollars that I recently got all at once the year before. They never cared. One time I forgot to put in a certain crypto website's earnings, but they also accepted that even though the earnings were like 2000 dollars. It's strange

I just got a text a few minutes ago that my refund was indeed accepted. Weird that it was so quick, because I had only submitted it maybe 30 minutes prior. But I need to mail the IRS a print copy of the summary of statements for my stock losses.

Jump in the discussion.

Jokes aside, for 200$ they ain't lifting their asses from the chair. But don't be caught tripping too many times. If you are massively unlucky, they'll probably just issue you to pay what is owed and maybe make you wet your pants to scare you into behaving.

Jump in the discussion.

You need to go to the "Where's my refund" IRS page and input your stuff. I got an email that mine was accepted but on further inspection it was not. Some tax programs jump the gun big time.

Jump in the discussion.

No the IRS is just getting faster. It's not my imagination. Years ago it would take a week to get accepted, last year it took 5 hours. This year it took an hour. Yeah just send them an envelope or box of your printed PDF from your broker. Remember to write said container exactly what's inside so the IRS knows what to do with it. Like name/address/irs reference number whatever else I forget. Otherwise they'll have to open it to figure out where to send it. Worse case scenario you just pretend to be r-slurred and didn't know what happened. They're not going to r*pe a poorcel they just want their money.

What are the chances that I will get audited regardless because I posted this here and a lurker will send a tip to the IRS. There’s a sweet spot for the IRS to target, you have to make enough to be able to pay the penalties but not so much that you can afford to fight it. Or just be a political enemy of the dems.
