The Santa Muerte is not an Aztec or pre-colombian ritual, there were obviously representations of death in these cultures, but they are different and only tenuously linked to Santa Muerte.

edit: I would add that I don’t know a single College-educated Mexican (like actual Mexican) that I’ve ever seen have anything to do with Santa Muerte, even highly religious ones.

In Haiti it’s spelled vodou or something since they’re frog speakers. Voodoo is from NOLA to the Delta and then some, though there are apparently some connections since Port-au-Prince and New Orleans used to be connected under the French and a lot of migrants and refugees and slaves that moved to New Orleans after the revolution in Haiti.

Hoodoo is general South though I’m not sure if it’s a religion, “witchcraft” or even African derived since a lot of it just general superstition similar to or seemingly from Christian culture, doesn’t help that many academics and/or white foids like to attribute anything interesting about Christian religion, superstition or folktales to paganism or witchcraft (ie Christmas trees, the Evil Eye, Shrove Tuesday, alchemy/astrology, Celtic crosses, etc.). There’s also many mayo and Injun practitioners in the South who do similar things so it makes African origin/witchcraft even less likely.
