I'm the player the OP spoke to. I am a ganker who likes picking on easy targets rather than getting fair fights. Cyno vigils present a lot of easy targets all grouped together, they usually have no weapons and are locked in place by the cyno. If it looks like I can get an easy kill, I take it. No more no less.

While most groups have an unofficial agreement of no combat at a vigil, there is no rule against it. EVE is fundamentally a non consensual PVP game, the minute you undock you accept that you can be attacked. But EVE also gives you the tools to fight back against your attacker. For example some players have now offered a bounty on me and are trying to catch me on the 1DQ gate. This is what the game is about. I am free to attack you and if you don't like it you are free to fight back.

The game gives you plenty of tools to fight back. You can have a titan try to lance me, or get a few insta locking svipuls catch me on the gate. Most groups won't attack a vigil but there is no rule against it so if you want to be secure against attacks you need to have security in place.

There may be no rule against it, but there are 364 other days in the year where you can come do your thing. I mean this would have been an opportune moment for Frat or Horde to be in here, but you don't see them do you?

But the ships on the keepstar grid won't be unarmed or only have festival launchers on the 364 other days will they? I prefer to attack targets that can't fight back.

I don't exactly support killing vigils (although I do think having villains is much better for the game, compared to your regular effective manager which makes lots of friends), but according to my evil-good scale this is somewhere down the list after those things I mentioned (i.e. less evil), mostly because people organizing vigils know a thing or two about defending themselves and don't go through as much negative emotions as people from the list do.

If you don't understand the difference between an in-game funeral for a friend, and standard gameplay, you might need to re-evaluate certain things.

I do understand an in-game funeral, what I don't understand is entitlement of some players to respect it in a game where pooping on someone else's vision of the game (e.g. entitlement of safety in hisecs, entitlement to log in and play the fun game instead of undocking and dying in 5 seconds) just because the game allows it is one of core game tenets (yes, all those certified "go play singleplayer game lmao" moments)

Both are griefing, you calling one standard gameplay and another one something special doesn't change that.

It's literally the same as if you showed up to a physical funeral and stared protesting or picking fights with the bereaved.

It's not remotely the same. Attacking other players in EVE is allowed under the rules. PVP is a fundamental part of the game and is even encouraged. None of that applies IRL. Physically fighting people is almost always illegal. Your analogy just doesn't make sense. And FluorescentFlux isn't defending it either, they literally said "I don't exactly support killing vigils"
