I’ve been cooking for myself since I was 5 years old, which means my relationship with food is based on a 5 year-old’s heuristic understanding of a balanced diet. Could I have tried to learn some actual dietary fundamentals in the past 25 years? Sure, but my understanding of healthy is “am I still frickable” and that’s been affirmed (sometimes unfortunately) over the timespan.
Well now I’m 30, and the cycle of going 20 pounds over and then crash-dieting back to normal has gotten harder. My usual go-tos of cereal, sandwiches and rice-heavy stir fry has been making it really hard to keep pounds off as I work out less.
So a friend I was trying to have s*x with recommended keto and showed me recipes she’s been trying out, and so I gave it a shot.
Night and goddarn day. It’s only been a few weeks and I’ve had to cut coffee for black tea since I have too much energy now. I don’t feel like a bloated sack of shit if I don’t make dinner before 5pm anymore. And the best part is I haven’t bothered calorie counting. I’ve had MyFitnessPal, a food scale, heavily-invested into CICO through my 20s, where I’d go from 2500 calories a day to 1400 for a few weeks to carve off pounds. And it works, but going to bed hungry sucks. And when I finally am getting laid, why bother continuing to do it?
I’ve not counted once with Keto and I just feel good all the time. Probably shaving off 2-3 pounds a week, including this last week where I’ve been on bedrest with a back injury.
Anyway, tell me about your experiences with the diet too. Getting a lot of value out of my $70 air fryer.

I’m obsessed with the Prison Hooch subreddit, where people make alcohol out of some of the most random ingredients possible. pic.twitter.com/YFdxON6En1

I braised some beef chuck yesterday in slow cooker with onions and rosemary and sage with beer and had leftovers. I finely chopped a few potatoes into matchsticks and coated in oil, salt pepper, paprika, garlic powder and air fried them. Tossed together into a bowl with fresh shredded cheddar.

Ate at this place today as the weather was a bit cold and we were feeling soup, here's what we got:
3 Gyros (2 lamb and beef, 1 chicken) ($11.75 each for 1 gyro, 1 soup, 1 drink, and either salad or fries)
2 Avgolemono Soup
2 Greek Salad
1 Serving of Fries
1 Fakes (lentil) Soup
1 Side of rice pilaf to-go ($4)
1 Almond cookie ($2.25)
1 Galaktoboureko ($4)
2 Iced Tea
1 Tea
Overall it was pretty good depening on what you order, 11.75 for a gyro, fries (or salad), soup, and drink isn't too bad. The salads were pretty good, the tea was quite nice, the soups were excellent, and the meat in the gyros were awesome.
However some of the other stuff is overpriced. The rice pilaf was a pretty small portion, the Galaktoboureko was subpar for the price, fries were underseasoned, the pita was merely ok and the almond cookie was dry and kinda bland.
Overall I would prob eat here again, but I wouldn't get dessert, the fries, or the pilaf again. I would recommend getting one of the plates that has a lot of meat as that was by far the best part.

All hand mixed due to lack of power tools. Whipping frosting with a hand whisk is an absolute b-word
Frosting was the choice of cake recipient, I'm a plain jam kind of gyaldem when I do it for myself
I am apparently not great at smoothing frosting with a small butter knife but god gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers so
Secret ingredient is light brown sugar to make it blend better with the cocoa and peanut butter notes in the frosting
