We just set the fridge to a colder setting. It must have changed the freezer. Its a short stay rental apartment (199)

We?The chances are far more likely that a person you live with has a problem they do not want you to know about than for you to have gotten a "bad batch" or have a freezer that goes that cold.I do not mean to insult you or them, I just encourage you to try and think about if that lens could bring sense to otherwise difficult-to-understand actions by your spouse/partner/roommate/friend. If so, I also encourage you to reach out for help from al-anon or other support groups for how you can deal with living with someone who has alcoholism.Signed,A gratefully sober alcoholic (-117)

Fun fact :This post might have saved my life during college. I moved into a flat in my second year of college after a bad experience in the dorm I was staying in. A family owned building and they were renting the first story. It was more expensive and I had to do some freelance work on the side to afford it but I was free now right ? My academic success suddenly took a deep dive, my results in freelance projects also went awful and I developed a severe depression with frequent time loss. This lasted around 8 months. I went to several doctors, including psychiatrists. Nothing solved the problem till I read this thread. Got a co meter and surely enough it was the co. Didn't know where it was coming from but I suspected the gas furnace and called the national gas hotline. Turned out the cheap landlord got his relative to install the new furnace. They fricked up and it was leaking exhaust into the basement and my flat. Landlord also got his relative to turn off the co alarm embedded... (1)

CO poisoning is my worst fear. Every new place I go I bring my co monitor. The worst I've seen was 20ppm and it was from when I tried to over night a fire in my wood burning stove. (1)

This is how I was able to catch my little brother sneaking alcohol. We had a bottle of Kirkland vodka and the “vodka” seemingly froze. So I waited for him to come home from school one day and chilled with him to play some video games. I pulled the Kirkland bottle out nonchalantly (the entire bottle was defrosted) and took a mighty big chug. His eyes went wide and he had the audacity to say “slow down” and “why are you drinking that?” I looked him dead in his eyes and laughed and told him “I should be saying the same to you” gave him a good ol lesson that liquor doesn't. Freeze. It wasn't water either that he filled it up with but coconut water. With visible signs of coconut pulp in the vodka bottle. He felt pretty dumb that day , got taxed whatever amount a Kirkland bottle costed because if our father found out, he would have gotten an butt beating so I took his money to replace the bottle. And he lost horribly to me in Mortal Kombat that same day. (3)

!strayans it's a fun time to be a Victorian :marseydepressed:

As a Victorian this is infuriating. We voted no in the referendum and the state government are pushing ahead with something they know the public is against out of ideological bullheadedness, and because the Victorian opposition is a clown car, they can do it without worrying about suffering too much of an electoral backlash.

Why are you so against the idea of a treaty?

Because it will turn into another trough of public money for the grievance industry to stick their snouts into.

:#marseyagreesuperspeed:

Labor are pissing me off in a number of areas like unchecked windfarm development but this isn't one of them.

Restorative justice long overdue.

Wingcucks hate him! Pro-Aboriginal gibs, anti-windfarm :marseyconfused2:

A leading First Nations campaigner has expressed fear the work towards a historic treaty could be undone if Victoria's 2026 election sees a change in state government,

They want to get it in before the people have a say.

We should all be exempt from land tax

There would be a rush of people looking for a drop of indigenous blood in their tree if we're having two classes of people: one that pays tax, and one that doesn't.

Dracula Daily May 4th

JONATHAN HARKER'S JOURNAL

(Kept in shorthand.)

4 May.—I found that my landlord had got a letter from the Count, directing him to secure the best place on the coach for me; but on making inquiries as to details he seemed somewhat reticent, and pretended that he could not understand my German. This could not be true, because up to then he had understood it perfectly; at least, he answered my questions exactly as if he did. He and his wife, the old lady who had received me, looked at each other in a frightened sort of way. He mumbled out that the money had been sent in a letter, and that was all he knew. When I asked him if he knew Count Dracula, and could tell me anything of his castle, both he and his wife crossed themselves, and, saying that they knew nothing at all, simply refused to speak further. It was so near the time of starting that I had no time to ask any one else, for it was all very mysterious and not by any means comforting.

Just before I was leaving, the old lady came up to my room and said in a very hysterical way:

"Must you go? Oh! young Herr, must you go?" She was in such an excited state that she seemed to have lost her grip of what German she knew, and mixed it all up with some other language which I did not know at all. I was just able to follow her by asking many questions. When I told her that I must go at once, and that I was engaged on important business, she asked again:

"Do you know what day it is?" I answered that it was the fourth of May. She shook her head as she said again:

"Oh, yes! I know that! I know that, but do you know what day it is?" On my saying that I did not understand, she went on:

"It is the eve of St. George's Day. Do you not know that to-night, when the clock strikes midnight, all the evil things in the world will have full sway? Do you know where you are going, and what you are going to?" She was in such evident distress that I tried to comfort her, but without effect. Finally she went down on her knees and implored me not to go; at least to wait a day or two before starting. It was all very ridiculous but I did not feel comfortable. However, there was business to be done, and I could allow nothing to interfere with it. I therefore tried to raise her up, and said, as gravely as I could, that I thanked her, but my duty was imperative, and that I must go. She then rose and dried her eyes, and taking a crucifix from her neck offered it to me. I did not know what to do, for, as an English Churchman, I have been taught to regard such things as in some measure idolatrous, and yet it seemed so ungracious to refuse an old lady meaning so well and in such a state of mind. She saw, I suppose, the doubt in my face, for she put the rosary round my neck, and said, "For your mother's sake," and went out of the room. I am writing up this part of the diary whilst I am waiting for the coach, which is, of course, late; and the crucifix is still round my neck. Whether it is the old lady's fear, or the many ghostly traditions of this place, or the crucifix itself, I do not know, but I am not feeling nearly as easy in my mind as usual. If this book should ever reach Mina before I do, let it bring my good-bye. Here comes the coach!

Monday night drunk thread

Finishing up fixing some really shitty non-EMR personal notes because for some reason they aren't readable despite using standard acronyms and very unlikely to ever be read and just a QC thing. Only perk is they're paying me bullshit high hourly rates where realistically I'm just getting drunk, watching anime or finishing up this weeks meal prep. Knocked them all out within a few hours and will just release them slowly to see how much free money I can get.
