Isn't the whole game alternate history? Why do you have such a big problem with this? (16)

Because I'm sick of people like Krayt and Gamingcirclejerk acting like every criticism of a black character is automatically racist. Most people are not these vapid cartoon characters who go "MOST UNORTHODOX!!!!!" every time a black character is on screen. (-4)

Assassin's Creed was always historical fantasy to begin with, who fricking cares if it's not 100% realistic? It never has been. That's why it feels like the people losing their minds over Yasuke might have ulterior motives. (5)

Why is Krayt so obsessed with politics? This has nothing to do with Star Wars (0)

Angriness: 😡😡😡😡😡

That's because you're not focusing on the actually important complaints. The devs have said over and over that they would not have a historical figure as a main character out of respect. It is not a coincidence that the character to buck this trend is the one black man on the entire archipelago. (10)

I'll agree that Yasuke being a main playable character strikes me as pandering, but he's also a very interesting historical character to base your narrative around and it allows the player to play as a stranger in a strange land, and it's ultimately not doing any harm to any groups, so why is everyone so mad about seeing a minority lead character in a AAA game. There's a lot of other games about white characters in out of place lands that no one has cried out over, so why is there so much butthurt when it's a black guy in a foreign land? I'm not saying explicitly that y'all are racist, but it's mighty suspicious that mfers are so mad (3)

Angriness: 😡😡😡😡😡

Good lord. You people need to get over yourselves and get some therapy. Yasuke existed, he was a black samurai, AC wants to make a story about him. Another thing, AC is "alternate" history, with fricking time travel, a magic apple, and George Washington being a tyrannical dictator for fricks sake. Stop being so butthurt about a non-white person being a protagonist. If you don't like it, don't play it. So tired of all this stupid petty bullshit from you people. Just shut up, no one wants to hear your idiocy (2)

Angriness: 😡😡😡😡🔘

Get. The frick. Over it.You've got a Japanese protagonist in the game. Play her. Were you this pissed off about William in Nioh? Or any of the horseshit in resident evil? (1)

Both terrible counter examples, lolEdit: I saw your reply, and then you deleted it.William Adam's (Niohs protag) by EVERY historical account was an official samurai with 20+ years in Japan. He died and was buried in Japan. Yasuke does not have even a tenth of the documentation Adam's has about him. Also, Adam lived there for 7 times the duration Yasuke did.Resident Evil? I do not understand your point. Do you mean the Spanish Village in 4 or Africa in 5? Because with both examples, you mainly play as someone who has literally no connection to the area. No one is claiming Leon is a Spanish warrior or Chris an African one. In the case of 5, you can play as a local in Sheva. Both of these titles are goofy butt games with monsters in them, not historically adjacent epics, lol.Lots of this outrage is cry baby nonsense, but these counter examples are bad. Dyack in the middle

Silicon Knights

Silicon Knights was a Canadian developer who made a few decent games, like Legacy of Kain and the Gamecube remake of Metal Gear Solid. They're mainly remembered for the classic Gamecube horror game Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, which is quite good for its time and is notable for being the only rated-M game ever published directly by Nintendo. They were lead by a guy named Dennis Dyack, a whiny manchild who doomed his company to fail.

Zoomers: This was considered scary in 2002

To give you an idea of their management, here's an image of games in production, games that were cancelled or abandoned before release are marked in yellow. Note the staggering ratio of unreleased/released games:

https://i.rdrama.net/images/1716073077634633.webp

Anyways, Dyack's passion project for decades had always been a game called Too Human, but every effort to make it had been abortive. After the successes of Eternal Darkness and MGS, Dyack decides the Wii doesn't have shiny enough graphics and makes the bold choice to unshackle his company from a lucrative position as a Nintendo third party so he can truly fulfill his vision on the superior XBawx Please Fix Me. Silicon Knights shacks up with Microsoft and Epic Games and produce an E3 demo (zoomers: people used to go to an annual convention for video game trailers) which is received overwhelmingly negatively.

Dyack is NOT HAPPY and goes on the IGN forums to whine about how the critics will regret their words and deeds:

Unedited clip from Too Human

NeoGAF

Once upon a time there was a gayming website called Gaming Age, with their forum called the Gaming Age Forum (or GAF). Eventually Gaming Age imploded, but the top two jannies (Evillore and Bishoptl) were able to move their community to a new forum, appropriately called NeoGAF. You wouldn't know it these days with GAF being a shambling corpse and its spinoff ResetERA being what it is, but pre-G*merGate GAF was chill and a place where industry figures would show up and sperg out while everyone laughed at them.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/17160747102157066.webp

Dennis Dyack makes a bet :marseygambling:

Once such figure was our hero, Dyack. With his new slop getting trashed by GAFfers, he makes a thread to bet on how it'll turn out:

https://i.rdrama.net/images/17160730781357527.webp

Right now the man just appears confident in his project. But his next post is a bit more... unhinged, and seems to be setting the bar rather low by making alreay-forgotten games Lair and Haze the standard to beat:

https://i.rdrama.net/images/1716073078449541.webp

He then goes for an interview on 1up (Zoomers: Now-defunct gaming journo site) and whined about how people saying mean things online is ruining America and how if the NeoGAF mods don't start respecting Denis Dyack and Too Human he's going to call the Internet Police and shut them down!

https://i.rdrama.net/images/171607307873769.webp

Dyack then does another interview where he declares that not only is NeoGAF the worst forum in the world, but forums in general are evil and this is why the US military no longer uses writing:

https://i.rdrama.net/images/17160730802537434.webp

Too Human comes out and scores lower than Haze. In classic GAF fashion the top janny punishes Dyack for losing the bet by writing lots of words and then perma-banning him. Dyack copes by saying g*mers are too stupid to understand his genius.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/17160730803907359.webp

By this point the capital-G G*mers are pissed at Dyack in a way that prefigures G*merGate in a way. Seething articles are written speculating that angering the G*mers has resulted in him not just being banned from NeoGAF, but divorced from his wife, kicked out of the house, abandoned by his employees, his car towed, banned from every website ever, banned from the city of Niagara and tossed over the waterfall.

He messed with g*mers. G*mers.

The Saga Ends

Denis Dyack has brought Silicon Knights from one of the more respected devs in the industry to basically a joke. Following the failure of Too Human Dyack blamed the Unreal Engine and Epic Games and made the genius decision to sue them. This didn't go their way and by 2012 they owed Epic millions of dollars, had less than five employees, and were legally obligated to destroy all of their unsold games and source code.

In the meantime they had six more projects (including two sequels for Too Human) which were cancelled before they finally released another game, the absolutely awful X-Men Destiny, which turns out to be their last. In desperation, Dyack crawls back to Nintendo and pitches a sequel to their last hit, Eternal Darkness. NeoGAF insider reveals that Nintendo is agreeable until SK loses the lawsuit against Epic, and they decide they'd rather not fork over $10 million in legal fees so SK can survive, which Dyack denied. Former SK staff reveal that this was the case and part of the reason the X-Men game sucked was because Dyack was taking money given by Activision for that game and instead putting it toward Eternal Darkness II.

Years later Dyack attempts to kickstart his own Eternal Darkness successor and makes $300,000 out of the $700,000 target. He has yet to make another game. The end!

Weekly Anime Post 143

Finished Takagi-san, I liked it a lot and it got a proper ending. Its a very chill show, the setting in the small town is also kinda relaxing, and it doesnt have any drama for the sake of drama. Also the side characters are good. I think there is a spinoff manga where they are adults, Id watch that too if they ever adapted it.

After that I didnt really know what to watch, I started rewatching 'The World God Only Knows' which I watched properly a few years back, but it didnt really fit the mood, I also started 'My Clueless First Friend', but I dont think Ill keep watching, seems a bit too childish.

Then I started 'Kubo-san wa Mob wo Yurusanai', I only watched the first episode and am not sure if Ill keep watching. The concept of the show is that the male lead is a 'background character' in life and mostly invisible to his peers, which doesnt sound too bad, but for some reason the show takes this literally at times, like the dude is literally invisible to people standing in front of him. I dont know if I can bear to watch the whole show if they keep that dumb shit up.

I honestly dont get why the japs are so in love with stupid gimmick shows in the last few years, it feels like every second romance/romcom show has a character with a stupid gimmick, and the gimmick is always tired out after three episodes but they keep going with it for the whole show.

Anyway, after that I decided to give 'Kaguya-sama: Love Is War' another try after not liking it back when the first season came out. I was surprised that I liked it. I dont even remember what exactly put me off the first time I tried it, but I think it was mostly the narrator dude being annoying. And he still is annoying, but not that bad. The show is pretty good, though it also has the aforementioned gimmick problem, albeit to a much lesser degree. It is also enhanced by its side characters, and has a satisfying ending, even though I think the movie was a bit overdramatic out of nowhere. I have seen people online talk about a potential fourth season, but I think it is fine how it ended. Maybe another season where it focuses more on current side characters (eg Ishigami) would be nice, where it would sideline Shinomiya and Shirogane a bit, but if nothing else comes it would be fine too.

Unfortunately, now that Ive finished kaguya, I have again reached a point where I dont really know what to watch :marseydepressed:
