Steve was leaving the football ground when he shouted back at some away fans. Moments later he was in handcuffs and under arrest.

He had shouted a homophobic slur, committing a hate crime that led to him being charged with a Section 5 Public Order offence. The case ended up in court, where he pleaded guilty, and he was banned from attending football matches in the UK for three years.

Now Steve - not his real name as he fears for the impact on his professional and personal life - is trying to make amends after coming through a fan education programme run by anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out.

A lifelong football fan, Steve had just watched his side play Chelsea and was leaving the stadium.

"I heard Chelsea fans shouting and I shouted back, 'Oi, you Chelsea rent boys', gave them a few gestures and thought nothing of it. I thought I was just having a bit of back and forth with the away fans," he said.

What followed is all a bit of a blur.

"I walked away and then all of a sudden I was surrounded by six security guards. And then from that point, a police officer arrested me and put the cuffs on."

"I'm in my 20s and I didn't really understand that [term]," Steve said. "I knew there was stuff around it, but I didn't really perceive why it was homophobic."

Steve was eventually referred to Kick It Out, which runs a fan education programme where offenders learn about the different types of discrimination and the impact their actions can have on victims.

"I accept that [what I did] was awful, and now it's about repaying that, turning that into something positive. I've had a look at myself... I'm willing to make amends," he said.

Sounds like not such a bad idea. Maybe we could organise to send some dramatards to these webinars to minimise homophobia on rdrama?

I need help organizing....please

I have been fascinated by the Holocaust since I was a kid. Every time I see the shoes of the victims in that huge, endless pile it's a knife to my gut I would like congress to see a visual representation of what they are doing to us I want to literally invite them to "put themselves in our shoes." By piling.pairs of shoes representing all the people they are hurting, or in cases like mine quite possibly killing. Baby shoes, work boots, old lady shoes, worn out grandma house slippers, a trans woman's shoes that make her feel beautiful, all the shoes. And pile them on the Capitol steps to represent us. I am too darned sickto organize it myself but I think we seed to find a focal point that represents us all. Almost all of us wear shoes, even amputees. So it's inclusive What is happening in this country affects people from all walks of life, even if we follow different paths. We need to come together. We need action, focus, unity and a reminder of how much we have in common. To pull this off we need:

a dump date, the day we do this protest/art installation.

People to get the word out

Collection sites

People to pick shoes up from collection sites

Storage pods

People to transport the shoes to DC

People to pile the chores on the steps

Chilean-born Marco Evaristti said he had been aiming to raise awareness of the suffering caused by mass meat production with his art installation that opened last week in Copenhagen. The piglets were being denied food and water and would have been allowed to starve to death.

Another of this "artist's" exhibits put goldfish in individual blenders and encouraged people to blend them, which they did. If the point is to draw attention to animal cruelty, there are ways to do so that don't involve literally torturing animals.

The police had to come out and make them unplug the blenders after complaints. It would have been really easy to use non-functional blenders, instead of functional, plugged in blenders.

So a mean artist said he was going to starve some pigs but then his own friend and some activists free the pigs. You wouldn't know the activists, they go to a different school.

And now the mean old artist reconsidered and is glad the pigs get to have a good life.

And the art is called "So now you care" which only makes sense if people do steal the pigs. Because the whole thing was obviously always the plan.
