A contraception debate is gripping one of Argentina's most notable luxury neighbourhoods – not for its wealthy residents, but for its original occupants, the capybaras.

In recent years, the lovable rodents have been accused of overrunning the Nordelta, a meticulously landscaped and manicured suburb north of Buenos Aires.

Now, in a bid to quell reproduction – some accounts suggest the number of capybaras has tripled to more than 1,000 in the past three years – the Buenos Aires government has approved wildlife population control plans, involving selective sterilisation and contraceptives.

Marcelo Cantón, a resident and spokesperson for the Nordelta Neighborhood Association, says that while capybaras themselves are not a problem, the "excessive growth" of their populations is, adding that it is causing the creatures to "fight among themselves, fight with dogs in private gardens", leading to traffic accidents.

"Capybaras have more than 500 hectares of lakes and public parks here, with no predators, no hunters to catch them for slaughter," he says. "There are none of the limits to population growth that exist elsewhere."

According to El País, the new plans would see two doses of contraceptives injected into 250 of the rodents, known locally as carpinchos, which authorities hope will stem reproduction for up to a year.

But not all neighbours are in agreement. The Nordelta sits within the Paraná Delta, an environmentally important wetland home to dense flora, an abundance of birds and dozens of species of mammals.

Silvia Soto and a group of neighbours known as "Nordelta Capybaras – We Are Your Voice" say the plans should be halted, dispute that there is an overpopulation problem and criticise property developers for ignoring proposals to create biological corridors and protected areas.

"For years, we have been asking for different, linked green areas that function as natural reserves connected by biological corridors, to protect the capybaras and preserve their survival and coexistence in their own natural space," Soto said, adding that the group's surveys had "not been taken into account".

Environmentalists are also now weighing in and calling on the government to protect the capybaras, which are the world's largest rodent, and the wetlands.

Pre-2019

Curtis Lind allows people to live in trailers and containers on his Vallejo, CA property, initially offering affordable housing to artists, woodworkers, and electricians. Over time, some tenants stop paying rent and are later referred to as "The Cult" by neighbors. The cult consists of Ziz (Jack LaSota), Emma Borhanian, Somni (Alexander Leatham), and Gwen Danielson.

Separately, at some point Ziz attends a workshop by CFAR, which is a nonprofit focusing on behavioral psychology and AI.

2019

November 2019: CFAR bans Ziz and Gwen from their alumni reunion, partly due to fears of violence.

November 2019: Ziz, Emma, Somni and Gwen protest at the reunion with accusations of bad decision theory (it's complicated) and transphobia. (All four of them are trans).

The protestors get arrested for blocking entrances (while there are children on the grounds) and wearing Guy Fawkes masks. They're released on bail.

2021

August 2021: Ziz advocates for "airlocking" (a sci-fi term for killing) various people in blog comments and claims many people seek "suicide by Ziz." Ziz runs a blog which appears to be the primary attractor for this community. They claim that people have two hemispheres, and are either non-good, single-good, or double-good (very rare, which Ziz herself is). Ziz advocates for a ruthlessly enforced altruism towards all living creatures, and to follow the principle that it's never valid to surrender. She promotes the punishment of "non-good" people, particularly those who are not vegans.

2022

February 2022: Jamie Zajko, a close friend of Ziz, claims that Ziz threatens to kill Jamie, if Jamie does not kill Jamie's girlfriend and provide proof of it.

April 2022: Gwen Danielson, one of the protestors, stops appearing for court hearings, and their lawyer suggests they have died.

July 2022: A different friend of this group commits suicide and cites ideas from Ziz's blog in their suicide note. Ziz appears to suggest their ideas caused the suicide.

August 2022: Ziz fakes her own death in a boating accident and stops showing up to court hearings. The Coast Guard conducts a search for her, but finds no body. An obituary is released.

November 2022: Emma Borhanian is killed by Curtis Lind during a violent altercation at his Vallejo property. Somni stabs Lind with a sword, and Lind shoots both Somni and Emma. Lind is stabbed dozens of times and loses an eye. Lind's account is that they had been threatening him for some time, and one day requested he come fix a leak. They hit him from behind, and when he woke up they were attempting to cut off his head (he has scarring consistent with this claim). He then shot Emma and Somni in self defense. His friend claims upon entering the trailer afterwards he found surgical equipment and chemicals he believes were intended to dissolve Lind's body. Somni and Suri Dao are arrested. Ziz and Gwen are seen at the scene, alive. It seems likely Gwen had faked their own death earlier to escape court appearances, much as Ziz had.

November 2022: Somni attempts to escape from jail (twice).

2023

January 2, 2023: Richard and Rita Zajko are found dead from homicide in their Pennsylvania home from gunshot wounds. Their daughter Jamie Zajko was associated with Ziz, and we suspect the homicide was an attempt to gain money (several million dollars) from inheritance. Police also suspect Ziz is involved in the murder. Police also suspect Daniel Blank, an associate of Ziz, is involved in the murder. Blank has not been seen since and we suspect he's dead.

January 13, 2023: Ziz is arrested in Pennsylvania for "obstructing administration of law" and "disorderly conduct." Ziz eventually makes bail (in June) and stops showing up to court. We suspect that the arrest was indirectly related the murders, and that the police didn't have enough evidence to make a full charge.

2025

January 17, 2025: Curtis Lind (who was set to serve as the primary witness in his assault case) is stabbed to death outside his Vallejo property. A man named Maximilian Snyder is later arrested for this murder. The previous year, he applied for a marriage license with a woman named Teresa Younblut, who was in contact with Ziz.

January 20, 2025: Teresa Youngblut and a man named Felix Baukholt are stopped while driving by U.S. Border Patrol in Vermont. They end up in a shootout, and Baukholt and a border patrol agent dies. Police find tactical gear, firearms, and burner laptops in the car. According to the police, an unnamed person who purchased the firearms used in this shooting is also a suspect in the Pennsylvania Zajko murders. We think this is likely to be Jamie Zajko, given that the shooting is in the same town that Jamie Zajko has a registered address (Coventry, Vermont).

That's it so far. We still don't know the whereabouts of the people in this story who aren't either dead or in custody, and we sort of expect them to continue doing murders.

Skeleton Crew has the lowest viewing numbers of all the Star Wars shows, despite being better than pretty much all other shows not named Andor. Franchises like Star Wars or Marvel cannot forever rest on their laurels. There has to be an urgency to make the best content at every opportunity. The fall currently happening is not the result of just The Acolyte. Star Wars has been stumbling more often than not over the last few years and each stumble erodes the trust in the brand. You can't suddenly re-establish the trust in one move.

They have years of rebuilding ahead of them and hopefully the leadership is reassessing what works well and what doesn't.

I gave up on watching every Star Wars show long ago. And that premise for Skeleton Crew just didn't seem that interesting. Most of the recent Star Wars shows besides Andor have been mid at best so there just didn't seem to be any need to check this out.

In the eighties and nineties I was probably in the top 10 percent of SW fans. Slowly fell back the curve with the second and third trilogy.

The Disney puked out so much content I can barely remember all the shows and movies names. Part of the story is in cartoons, part in games. I just can't keep up with SW and life with 24 hours per day.

The original feeling has been diluted, some content is better than other but certainly different from what was back then. So yes nostalgia is certainly a factor for me.

Every time there's scarcity of what I love, I wait with anticipation and once the moment arrives I try to enjoy every second of it. That's not the case anymore with SW, so I just wait and if I eventually start noticing a lot of positive comments about something, I got it. Happened with Andor and Rogue one.

Seriously though, Disney has done a pretty terrible job of promoting things lately. Whatever the current Sar Wars/MCU show is, should always be front and center on Disney+. I already know about it and it's still annoying to have to tab through 4-5 pages of other shows before I can find it.

Even on the top of the page where it scrolls they always have skeleton crew as the 4th or 5th tab. The finale was the only time they had it up front.

Fair point at least with the final numbers it was very small. I'm not arguing against the idea that the TV show content has not been very good. It's certainly hard to motivate people to watch the good stuff and encourage Disney to keep making more of it when there is a lot of cheap and bad stuff, too. It does seem the fan base gets divided. I prefer more Andor-like stuff, but a fair amount of people don't want "adult Star Wars" or Star Wars without lightsabers. I would love it if the good shows got rewarded while the mediocre shows didn't, but outside of some shows most people seem very divided on reception.

Like it or not, the majority of star wars fans like action and light saber battles. Disney's streaming model is flawed, it only counts viewership and not audience reception. It's not possible to make back their budgets when we are already paying a monthly fee to get everything. That isn't our fault, it's theirs. An obscure show set in the Star Wars universe is not going to pull the number of eyeballs a show about Obi-Wan Kenobi is, and it's dumb to expect it to. Some of this stuff needs to be allowed to be small and build a fanbase of dedicated fans, rather than everything needing to have an unsustainable amount of views.

As soon as streaming services figure out how to charge us for "premium" content it'll be game over for getting the entire library for one price.

Poor quality Star Wars fims and oversaturation of low quality Star Wars shows is the reason for low viewership. Movies need to be great to pull the masses in and retain existing fanbase and the shows need to be consistently high quality with more time between them.

Intro

Codeberg is currently suffering from hate campaigns due to far-right forces, and so are our users. First and foremost, we apologize for everyone who has recently received a notification email from our system containing offending and potentially traumatizing content. We are working hard on containing the effects on our users and systems.

Most importantly, your private data was not leaked. All emails have been generated through Codeberg's servers using the notification feature and the abusers had no access to your email address directly.

Fighting hate and far-right forces is important to us. Read to the end of this article to learn why.

What has happened?

In the past days, several projects advocating tolerance and equal rights on Codeberg have been subject to hate attacks, such as massive spam of abusive messages in their issue trackers. We have been monitoring the situation closely and have tried to clean up the content as quickly as possible.

Often, content remained available only for a few and up to 30 minutes. Due to constrained personal capacities, some rare cases have remained online for longer. We appreciate all your reports to [email protected] that help us identify abuse quickly.

On 12 February 2025, an abuser has escalated the attacks to a next level. Instead of targetting individual projects, they have started to create abusive content and mentioned Codeberg users in chunks of 100 each. Depending on the notification settings of users (if you are a user on Codeberg, you can modify it in your settings), these generate notification emails that contain a copy of the post that includes the mention - and thus the abusive content via email.

Although our staff reacted quickly, blocked access to the used functionality and deleted the user accounts, they managed to generate a large amount of notification emails already.

Since this attack is not only harming Codeberg users but the platform itself, both via technical means (we had brief downtime of our systems and our mail server was suffering a lot), as well as by harming the reputation of our platform and trust users have shown us. We expect this incident to be in response to our swift moderation of the previous campaigns that targeted only individual projects.

How could this happen?

Please understand that Codeberg.org is driven by volunteers mostly. We have sufficient capacity to run the platform under normal conditions, and normal conditions also include some headway to deal with abuse campaigns that come and go. We suppose that most readers did not notice the spam campaigns of the past days, and we are happy that we managed to contain them quickly. We are fighting with advertisement spam, phishing and malware week to week.

However, our capacity was obviously exhausted this time, when it comes to attacks that target us specifically. And we apologize for this.

You might wonder why there are not more technical countermeasures in place to prevent this type of abuse. Technical measures evolve over time, and we have implemented several protections on multiple levels that are trying to contain the amount of abuse you see day to day.

However, doing proper rate-limiting is hard. We need to ensure that legitimate usage of our API and interface is possible, including custom scripts that import or synchronize massive amounts of issues from projects on other platforms. There are some rate-limits tailored to the previous abuse vectors we have seen, which was mostly aggressive advertizing, and so it would not have been possible to create these massive postings if they would have contained a hyperlink to another website, for example.

However, just spamming notification emails to users is a new abuse vector to us, and we did not sufficiently prepare for this. For that, we are sorry.

What will Codeberg do?

Currently, we are investigating the details of the attack and we have implemented short-term countermeasures and monitor activity on the platform closely. Further, we are responding to hundreds of emails from our users that ask about the incident. Some request the deletion of their data in response.

Next up, we will make plans on how to improve our protection against this and future kinds of abuse attacks on Codeberg itself to reduce the likelihood of similar things from ever happening again.

If you want to help with development work on Forgejo, the free/libre and open source software that powers Codeberg, please reach out. Go developers who can commit some time and patience to implement one our more technical measures in the codebase are much appreciated.

Unrelated to the current incident, we have worked with NLnet in the past weeks and secured funding for some moderation cowtools. A meeting was scheduled for later today at 20.00 CET to talk about technical architecture for a feature that allows reporting abuse directly in the app and the goal is to implement it for the next release of Forgejo.

Far-right forces endanger free/libre software projects

We will not be discouraged in our fight against far-right ideologies. They are currently on the rise in many parts of the world, and we believe it is important to protect all kinds of marginalized groups. However, if you believe this does not affect your project, you are wrong. Far-right forces pose a threat to all of us.

Extreme right forces actively target members of our communities and discriminate based on ethnicity and gender, political background, sexual orientation, disabilities, nationality and faith. However diversity is an important asset in free/libre software communities and it is what makes our software great and development productive.

By targetting (Editor's note: Codeberg can't afford a spell checker) some of our most active translators, nicest designers, best developers and all other motivated contributors, they are hurting the free/libre software ecosystem as a whole.

Don't be fooled if right-wing forces promise to "promote open source" in their political agenda. This has nothing to do with the values of our movement! This is about national patriotism and protectionism, and they will happily accept splitting our community on their way.

We all know that the free/libre software ecosystem won't work this way. Every human is an integral and equally important part of it, and targetting some of our community members threatens the ecosystem as a whole.

Let's together stay strong and united against the emerging threats. We stay strong against discrimination of all kind, including but not limited to sexism, transphobia, homophobia, racism, antisemitism and ableism. And we hope that you all join us for this mission.

Context: Someone emailed users the BIPOC word

I just started watching but it's obvious to anyone. I wasn't even trying to find faults. So for example on the boxart of the rerelease of moana 1 or in the actual movie she looks like this:

However in Moana 2 her hair looks like it hasn't been cleaned, less soft, her eyes are more far apart like half a centimeter like her voice actor actually looks.

I think she's actually fatter too but it's all so subtle. The funny part is this is obviously DEI, there's no reason to change the models of the characters so much. Almost all the characters look more realistic and less cartoony and cute. This is super strange as normally you'd want the models to be more consistent. Also everyone's hair has less pieces to it, seeming more clumpy, meaning less render time. She also radiates more girl boss energy and the expressions are less cute. So she just has that wierd/b-word intentionally cringe face in some scenes.

Movie is fine other than it pissing on my autism and noticing powers.
