antiwork sneed: https://old.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/y36aat/men_in_unions_may_make_13_million_more_in/?sort=controversial

Men who belonged to unions their entire career made up to $1.3 million more on average than men who never joined one,Β according to new research.

Those belonging to unions made about $3.4 million from ages 20 to 64, compared to $2.1 million for those who were never union members. Cornell University's Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR) Review published the findings.

The study analyzed data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) from 1969 through 2019. The men studied had to be no older than 25 between 1969 and 1973.

The sample consists only of men because women earners are categorized as "spouse" in the PSID, and data on spouses only began being collected consistently in 1979, the researchers said.

Researchers calculated career earnings using total years employed, mean hours worked per year, and the mean hourly wage.

Men with no college degree who have been in a union at least half their career had expected earnings of $1.96 million by age 65, while those with no college degree who have never been in a union or been in one less than half of their career have projected earnings of about $1.5 million.

Inversely, people with college degrees who have been in a union for more than half their careers made less ($2.16 million) than those with college degrees who have never been in a union ($2.67 million), "likely because of the association of union membership and occupations worked," the study says.

Though, across the board, belonging to a union was associated with an increased probability of retiring at or before age 65.

Imagine driving a truck all your life and thinking you know how to handle a global viral outbreak better than doctors.

Yes, the doctors are the ones legislating and enforcing mandates. Look, just trust the fricking science okay?

They won't get away with this policy supported by the majority of people!

Remember, vaccinated people = pro mandate people

It’s just a temper tantrum by some racist morons.

Race card again :marseyyawn:

The best drama imo is the redditor delusion of TECHNOLOGY replacing the entire ground delivery network of North America in TwoMoreYearsβ„’.

All that I'll say is be careful what you wish for. There are a bunch of old white guys in a room right now planning to eliminate truck drivers and I guarantee they are calling all of the self driving software companies and trying to determine how fast they can have their software ready to go!

Should be ready to ship soon, sir! Just a few bugs to iron out.

Are you seriously advocating for A.I. replacing jobs as a β€œwin-win”?

Yes

:#soyquack:

And hopefully less carbon emission. I imagine that the self driving trucks will run on battery power and not diesel fuel

Hey, how's Nikola doing again?

I'd take a robot truck driver over a seditious meth-head independent business owner with a truck any fricking day.

Why are British "People" so ugly? :marseyhmm: a Scientific Analysis :marseynerd:

Colin Dunne gave an excellent and accurate description in The Mail last week of the bare legs of an adult British male being like β€œuncooked pork sausages”, or β€œstringy calves and sunken thighs all coated in what looks like goat’s hair”.

But his observation only tackled a small aspect of the phenomenon that is Ugly Britain.

Go to any Southern European holiday spot this summer and try to spot the Brits. It isn’t hard.

Lofty men with scrappy body hair as though it’s been sporadically stuck on; a fuzzy beard they think looks macho but would make any French woman grimace.

A bod either like a beanpole or swelling with oversized muscle wrapped in tragic tattoos, which only serves to reveal their gym b-word status and make them look like some sort of caricature with Popeye arms and a pea-sized head.

Pink women lying gracelessly on deckchairs, stubbly hairs beginning to show on their legs because they still haven’t learned the art of waxing or epilating, faces pale and blotchy because every other day of the year they smother it in make-up.

And even when the British do soak up some proper sun, no full-bred Brit can master the tan as a Spaniard or Italian does. In fact, most fail completely.

As night falls, British men and women alike prepare for a β€œmad one”, ready to grace the strip with their scarlet presence.

Hot pants that reveal more crimson bum cheek than anyone wants to see, Primark tank tops showing β€œdench” arms that look like undercooked chicken drumsticks.

The locals look on with a combination of pity and amusement as we loudly jaunt around, glugging on overpriced fish bowls, either unaware or without a care that we are by far the worst-looking in the vicinity.

Rigorous scientific analysis of this well known phenomena, and Lipstick Alley's resident PHD professional opinions here:

https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/british-man-self-reflects-on-british-ugliness-compared-to-other-euros-2015.4885662/

Oh boy.

I live on the Costa del Sol and let me tell you, fat pasty sunburnt British bodies are the least of their worries in the ugliness department. Voices like nails on a chalkboard, loutish, entitled colonialist attitudes, loud ( I mean LOUD) drunkenness, spewing, pissing, pooping and shagging in public. I have seen and heard it ALL.

I grew up on a farm and a barn load of 50 head of cattle is quieter, better mannered, cleaner, better smelling, better tempered and better looking than a table of four Mancunian football hooligans and their screeching girlfriends.

Jesus be a pox that keeps them at home this summer. The past 2 summers with Covid have been heaven without them.

Greetings Dramatards! :marseybean:

It's been stage 6 Loadshedding this fricking week, so I've been very unproductive at work, cuz we've had between 4-6 fricking hours of no power each day. I literally sometimes just sit at the office like a baboon waiting for the power to come on. Our glorious Free State communist leaders were very wise when they used up all our Power Station coal reserves so that they could party uninterrupted during Easter Weekend, now we have to make up for the short fall with a much higher than average power-cutting cuz we used up our Province's allotted coal rations, I'm literally not joking. Luckily, our Capybara :marseycapy: overlord coded a much superior site than Preddit, and the Create Post feature saves all your shit before posting, so i can take forever to vomit out wordsoup, and search articles. Typing on my phone is a pain in my butt.

Today I wanna talk about the infamous Clicks Racist Shampoo ad of 2020. Clicks is a Pharmacy chain in South Africa, and filled a niche pretty quickly after public healthcare pharmacies went to the gutter pretty quick once the ANC had their tendrils all over it. Clicks is a pretty good store chain and I get all my glue for sniffing from them. Back in September 2020, the draconian Lockdowns were slowly lifting, after thoroughly destroying the South African economy, and obliterating industry sectors like Restaurant business, in spite of proof that COVID was not even remotely as deadly as advertised, especially against south africans, compared to geriatric 99 year old crippled Italian geezers.

https://gdc.unicef.org/resource/coronavirus-africa-five-reasons-why-covid-19-has-been-less-deadly-elsewhere

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-53998374

https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-in-africa-why-is-the-death-rate-so-low-12236347

It's a story for another Longpost, but so many people were surprised at the fact that South Africans were effectively almost immune compared to their European peers, especially against places like Italy where ambulances had to ferry mountains of bodybags from Rome to cremate en masse - during the 1st 2 months of COVID's explosive spread across the globe. Meanwhile south africans in shanty towns were were licking doorknobs and parting in Shabeen clubs and ignoring State lockdown warnings left and right, and ...... not dying like flies? Why Styven Why

I'll tell you the open secret, basically the healthcare and sanitary conditions of places like Europe are so high that people live much longer lives that they would have, had they been born in places like South Africa were the environment is much more harsh, we are practically near zero good public healthcare, and basically drink raw unfiltered swage like REAL MEN. Basically the wheat had already been seperated from the chaff, and natural selection had already run its course. So when COVID came, most people whom were like 60+ old were those whom had the most robust immune systems on a national scale. Meanwhile places like Italy, with one of the highest elderly populations on Earth, and with a fragile population that has basically been kept alive solely through obescene healthcare, fell over like sandcastles the moment a more deadly than average virus ravaged their ranks. In summary: Euros weak πŸ‘Ž , Africa Stronk! πŸ’ͺ

Anyways uhm, so in August 2020, the last of many of the harshest lockdowns were being lifted after 6 months, and it became apparent that the very poor South Africa would desperately need to reactive all of its economic sectors so as not to completely collapse. Many businesses were desperate, even big chains like CLicks, so had started to shit out heaploads of funky quirky ads to lock in lots of peeps as quickly as possible to recuperate their customer base to pre-COVOD levels. So they hired wingnuts to create ads.

And oh boiii, did we get an explosive front row seat to national drama when a galaxy brain :marseybigbrain: intern thought it a good idea to create an ad featuring Black woman's hair as being the before Image of those weight loss Verimark swindler crap, and Hwite woman as the after perfected image result!

Very soon many black South African moral busybodies, including the ever infamous EFF and Julias Malema, were protesting & trashing Clicks' shops nationwide. The lockdown had been long, and peeps had energy they needed to expend. The biggest r-sluration was that the stupidity involved here was that Black protestors were destroying Clicks shops, but that the ad wasn't actually MADE by clicks! It was another private company from overseas who created the shampoo, Clicks only housed the brand in their shop lmoa. A bunch of shops got destroyed or firebombed :marseyflamewar::marseyflamewar::marseyflamewar:

Of course the TRESemme shampoo company apologized like cucks and pulled the specific brand of offending shampoo, and was we'll make it up to you guys, we'll donate 10k p*ssy pads, plz buy our junk :marseybeanpleading:

A bunch of libtards were crying crocodile tears about how terrible this intention DEGRADATION OF BLACK WOMAN's dignity :soycry::soycry::soycry::soyjakhipster::soyjakhipster::soyjakhipster:

https://i.rdrama.net/images/16813787115267677.webp

Our old friend Juju Malema would insert himself into the controversy and add fuel to the fire before Clicks corporate heads could even respond, and started shouting about how this systemic racism wouldn't stand by validating destroying Clicks' shops, again ins spite of the fricking fact that Clicks were NOT responsible for making the ad.

No matter how much non r-slur journolasts tried to set the record straight, black peeps were :marseyraging::marseyrage::marseyrage::marseyrage: and nothing could contain their indignity! The protestors demanded the Clicks chain shut down their shops for at least 5 days so that they would lose revenue. The other 90% of Clicks stores not being trashed ignored them because they were pharmacies for people who needed medecine. Watch the video - the stupidity is astonishing.

Some U-tube indignity by the r-slurred commenters of the above video.

Update on how the shooting in portland last night happened

For background: there was a Justice for Amir Locke "protest" last night held by the Justice for Patrick Kimmons protestors. If you aren't already aware, Patrick Kimmons was a gang member who fired multiple times into a crowd of people during a verbal argument, ran towards the police while holding a gun as police told him to drop it, then got himself shot as he started running towards another group of people. https://www.opb.org/news/article/patrick-kimmons-officers-cleared-portland-grand-jury/

Amir Locke is the murderer-adjacent man who was killed during a search warrant last week.

The Justice for Patrick Kimmons protestors regularly open carry rifles (without magazines in them, due to a local ordinance) during their marches in which they threaten and attack bystanders. Here are two clips which one of their members posted on youtube of them supposedly being "attacked" because she thought it would make them look good (from 5/6/2021):

Anyway, while they were marching past some dude's house, they started arguing with him. It looked sorta like this but spicier:

As it got more heated, they started pointing their rifles at him and shouting orders. This caused him to draw his own gun and shoot at them, and one of them drew a handgun and started firing back. 4 of them are injured, one is dead, the homeowner is about to go through legal heck and his house will probably be burned down at some point this year.

The police would have told you some of this during this morning's press conference if a schizophrenic whale and her comrades hadn't interrupted it. The rest of the information will come out soonish, but no video will be released other than the neighbor's Ring Doorbell audio. The guy is going to walk on all charges due to the lack of evidence that it wasn't self defense, but he will have spent over a year in jail by that point since his bail will be set ridiculously high (>$1M) by the anti-bail DA.

Antiworkers posting Ls

I'm not going to quote the entire post because there's too much of it but I'll post some highlights:

Anyway, my greater point is that if rhythm is something "you just feel" and doesn't "map" onto an external, objective measurement like time, then by definition it is something totally subjective and not objective, meaning that no one is right or wrong about who is off rhythm or not since it is essentially open to interpretation. But that is clearly not how people treat this subject. Musicians love to say "you're off rhythm" as if it is an objective, measurable fact. But by what criteria can they make that determination? "Really?" I feel like saying. "I'm 'just feeling' that I'm on rhythm, actually. Who are you to say what's going on inside my head?"

https://i.rdrama.net/images/1689309932134268.webp

So I decided to make my own efforts to resolve this paradox when I noticed that sheet music sometimes had a notation on it of something like "quarter note = 163" (i.e. there are 163 quarter notes per minute). This gave me hope because I figured I could do something like divide 60 seconds by the amount of quarter notes per minute to figure out how many quarter notes were per second. Then I would double that number for half notes, cut it in half for eighth notes, etc. Then combined that with practicing as best I could to learn to count seconds passing as accurately as I could. I would stare at a watch for a few minutes, look away, then ask someone to pick a certain number of seconds and ask me how many seconds had passed during that time.

Unfortunately it didn't work out for multiple reasons, for one the lack of people willing to do this with me and the fact that even though I was making progress at it, it was all for naught, since its impossible to coordinate with a teacher who didn't use that method of discussing beats.

What the frick???????

But here's the problem. If counting fragments of time is what's happening "on the back end" anyway, why not bring that to the front end of music theory? Why not teach it focally, as we do in fields like grammar, instead of relying on tacit knowledge? A grammar teacher would never accept "well I can just feel the rules of the English language in my head, why do I have to learn what they actually are?"

What I am talking about is totally changing sheet music and the way music is taught so that it actually uses time-based indication of how long each note should last in explicit language. I.E. this note lasts .5 seconds, this note lasts .75 seconds, etc. Just like a how a grammar teacher would teach dangling participles, rather than expecting students to magically know what they are "by intuition". Intuition may work fine for a native English speaker, but to a non-native one, it would not be immediately obvious. Well, we "people who lack rhythm" are the non-native English speakers of music.

What a great idea. Now instead of writing "quarter note = 130" you can just write "quarter note = 0.46153846153, eighth note = 0.23076923076, sixteenth note = 0.11538461538" which literally nobody in the entire world will be able to get any use from. I also fail to see how this is different from writing quater note = 120, aside from the fact it's completely incomprehensible.

I'll close out this discussion by just mentioning really quick that modern music theory we use today isn't actually that modern at all. It was popularized by rich aristocrats during the renaissance who had a vested interest in making it as obtuse and incomprehensible as possible to the average peon, peons that didn't have the same access to education or amount of free time to learn it. Its crazy to me that we haven't tried to update music theory in literal centuries.

He says, after reinventing the system that already exists and has been used for centuries in a way so obtuse and incomprehensible that I'm pretty sure nobody, not even OP, would be able to get any use out of it. It's like one of those conlangs not even its creator is able to speak.

Anyway I checked OP's post history and they're really into DnD and swords and brewing their own mead and shit so that explains it. What a fricking r-slur

Asking just for the fun of it I want to see what my fellow furries think of real fur fursuits.

A list of some of his (now jannied) comments:

I mostly disagree with the 'fandom will hate you' That's mostly depended on the quality of the suit, remember that famous fursuit made put of plushies? no one would know him if that suit was half decent looking instead of horror material. Furry conversations are full of far worse suits.

Animal fur is cleaned, softened, fleshed (extraneous flesh is removed), and stretched. The skin is tanned by a process called leathering so there is no 'roting', rest of your comment is way too hostile to be worth of my time

Seek help yourself, it's just fur, been used since like ever

Well Im eating the rabbits first so it's survival in your definition right?

Meat is not necessary for survival, eat sum nuts for that protein, probably every chemical you have ever bought was tested on animals.

I love how people like to act like they care just to feel good while being hypocritical.
