One of the best games of the last decade (with one of the more disappointing sequels of this decade) got its sequel half-announced yesterday, with the publisher stating it will be a "multiplayer-focused live-service game." Holy yikes, for a game that had an expansion-turned-offshoot that sucked in part due to it removing the sense of being alone exploring an alien world, this is awful news, right? Twitter and the game's subreddit agree, because that's the correct take.

A lot of g*mer seethe here, but by and large can be summed up by this pic

https://i.imgur.com/Y84KRWF.png

Subreddit wasn't have much fun either. I think they deleted a lot of the posts after the devs Corrected the Recordℒ️, so a little hard to find threads but there's still a few up. There is a little coping, too, but it seems most people are unsurprised that the devs continue to misunderstand why their game was good in the first place.

Shout out to this based chad setting coping subnutters right.

Developer: We're making our next game use a shitty model that prioritizes money over fun and engaging content.

Sane people: We're not going to buy your game

Other people: Come on guys, just because every other GAAS game is terrible doesn't mean that this one will be.

Major "communism will work THIS time" vibes.

Finally, the devs speak out and clarify that nooo child, the game will not have a battlepass, it will simply have updates over time :^). They even go as far as to comment and lock threads that were pooping on the publisher statement.

Correct take from random dude (option 1 is probably most correct, with a bit of option 2).

No one has ever used that definition of GaaS until now. GaaS as a term comes from SaaS, which is built entirely around recurring revenue and subscriptions. Why would they use that to represent just doing typical patches and updates if there weren't ideas for recurring revenue? There are three possibilities in my mind:

1 The investor relations team used GaaS because it's popular right now and makes investors happy, but they aren't actually implementing any GaaS aspects

2 The playerbase is being duped

3 They were planning to go GaaS and aren't now because we all freaked out

Sadly, it seems most people take this to assume everything is copacetic and in fact we should all pretend Below Zero wasn't one of the most bland games of 2021, as seen in the [quote tweets of the IGN correction post.] (https://x.com/IGN/status/1755674941830152302/retweets/with_comments)

Not really that dramatic after the fact, but I guess it's nice the game got announced, sort of.

So I'm part of the !strayans and Blizzard having a Valentine's sale. I've been eyeing Starcraft 2 for a while and just been waiting for about a year.

In Dingo dollars it's $44.95. So that's 25% off full price. But been checking gg-deals and while this is the 3rd best price, the other best prices of $30 and $22 AUD were 2 and 3 years ago.

Do I bite the bullet since it's safe to say it isn't dropping that far again unless new pandemic?

Or since I only want to play single player offline, I just pirate?

Gib recommendations.

I keep playing on the same cities in CS1 and since all the youtubers shifted to cs2 I stopped watching and then checked today if it improved at all and then I see Biffa of all, pooping on it continuously.

Thank you biffa I hope Colossal Cute twinks fix and improve the game :marseysal:

It looks so cute but the reviews say that the story isn't finished. But all the reviews like that have like 200 hours so idk if that's something that would affect gameplay if I probably won't play anywhere near that amount :marseyconfused: anyone play it and have input?

Hello Neighbor blows.

My son has begged me to get Hello Neighbor off Steam because my sister in law sits him in front of some over-reactive man children playing video game shows on the Roku between school and pick-up. The reviews checked out as relatively safe for kids and the price was right so I agreed. He's mostly been doing B&E capture the flag and bringing random possessions from the guy's house to the PC's house and been having a lot of fun that way. After watching this for a bit, I asked him if he wanted to try to achieve some of the goals of the game and goddarn, the puzzles and solutions make no darn sense.

The main goal is a door in his kitchen, and you're shown the key to it is kept upstairs, but there are no accessible stairs to the second floor in the house. There's a door with another lock that they haven't given any clues to where the key is. We could try meticulously searching the house, but we're spending four minutes at a time hiding in fricking armoires while the neighbor dashes back and forth around the house. My wife's currently putting him to bed, so I checked out a tutorial video and the solution pissed me off to no end. You apparently climb the scaffolding outside the house, smash in the window with some garbage, get a car key up there, get a magnet from the car trunk, and USE A FRICKING MAGNET TO PULL A LOCK PICK YOU CAN BARELY SEE OUT A WINDOW FROM OUTSIDE THE HOUSE. Needless to say, this is an r-slured solution to a locked door puzzle set in a house that's supposed to be lived in by a human.

I think if he's playing this I can probably show him the Looking Glass Thief series, he may get a kick out of it.

After this and Bendy I'm thinking getting games hyped up by Reaction Bros is not a good way forward. I'll have to talk to Auntie about maybe keeping him from watching thirty year olds open mouth gape at terrible games.

Thank you for reading my rant.

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/ign-workers-unionizing

A group of more than 80 IGN employees are headed for unionization, as the newly formed IGN Creators Guild today announced that more than 87% of the eligible members of that group have signed union authorization cards.

"IGN is an incredible place to work! But so many of the talented creators that make it so incredible need more support than they're currently getting, especially when it comes to competitive pay and adequate time off," said IGN senior reporter Rebekah Valentine in a press release announcing the union.

"And at a time when our industry faces so much uncertainty amid mass layoffs and the rise of generative AI, it's more important than ever for us to ensure IGN remains a great place to work not just today, but for the future IGN that doesn't exist yet."

The guild noted a "need for better diversity and representation at the company" and said online media is becoming less financially viable to staffers, noting a wave of layoffs across gaming journ*lism outlets in the past year and the need for some staff to live in cities with a high cost of living.

today i will create a union at my dying company that recently had layoffs

Ghostrunner is goated

Started playing this weekend, it feels great. Executing a level perfectly, with style and elegance whilst using all of your available skills after just wiping on it a hundred times brings me the kind of joy I haven't felt in a long time, probably since playing Hotline Miami. It's the kind of game where you'll be repeating the same movements and inputs tens of times over until you get your timing just right, but does it feel satisfying when you do. It does have a couple issues from what I've seen so far, but nothing I can't overlook or get used to.

The presentation is really good. I don't care about the story, but the aesthetic, the style, design, and soundtrack are all there. The game also looks quite pretty and yet manages to run at smooth 60 fps on my old butt computer, so that too is a plus and a recommendation to all the other poorstrags who may be hesitant due to their specs.
