[Developing] r/PlusSize - Husband secret hates fat “people”

Husband secretly hates “fat” people

Hello , I’ve been married for 5 years I got married very young…when I first got married I weighed 180lbs I was considered obese but honestly I was happy with my body. I’ve always been a plus size person like no matter how much weight I lose that’s just how my body carry’s the weight. Saying that when I met my husband and I found out about the girls he used to date I was confused as to how he’s was interested in me. All the girls he would date are tall, thin and tan me on the other hand I’m short , thick and pale. That should have been my first red flag. So after we got married I gained a little weight and went up too 205lbs I was still happy with my self until one day we got in a fight and he called me “fat” fyi I hate that word. That was the worst feeling ever having someone I loved call me fat. I got so mad and completely degraded him and called him every bad word I could think of and also made fun of his insecurities. Needless to say it was the last time he would ever call me something like that. A year later we have a baby and that’s when my weight really skyrocketed and I gained 50lbs. This is when my husband started acting weird. Sometimes when a plus size person walks by us he’ll make a rude comment or if he has a family member who is plus size he’ll be rude about their weight. Sometimes when I’m scrolling through Instagram, and there is a video of someone being made fun of for being plus sized his like will be under the post. And also recently, my daughter has been calling me fat and saying I have a big stomach because I eat to much, when I ask her who told her that she’ll say that it was her dad but I don’t know if she’s telling me the truth or because she’s a kid she just comes up with those things.. I can tell that he’s no longer even remotely attracted to me anymore. But it pisses me off more than anything because he met me like this. I’ve always been a plus size I’ve always been considered chubby. Also, I’ve had his family members make rude comments about my weight and he never defends me. I don’t know I just wanted to rant about this. See if anyone else has had something similar happened to them or have experienced this. And yes if things continue like this, I will definitely leave this marriage.

Also I have gone through various weight, loss journeys, and every time I try to lose weight, he never supports me it’s like he always tries to sabotage me losing weight which confuses me even further. Sometimes I think that he wants me to be overweight because he knows how insecure I am I don’t know it’s just very confusing. I do want to lose weight because my health has been declining because of my weight gain but I don’t want to lose weight for him or make him think that I’m doing it for him in anyway so sometimes that also stops me from losing weight.

Spaces not built for big people

Sorry if this is TMI but I was stopping at my friend's sisters place whilst she's house sitting for them and whenever I went to the potty I had to move the potty paper stand out of the way so I could actually spread enough to do my business and clean myself. My friend was mystified by this when I had to explain why it kept moving 😅 The space in the potty itself was so small as well, it meant I had to stand up to wipe and get enough room. Some pottys are glorified closets for layout reasons, I get that, but this was a large spacious bathroom where the potty was wedged in a corner next to the bathroom counter, so clearly not built with big people in mind.

Similarly noticed tiny showers in hotels and things like that, where the doors only open a foot at most, and I've broken shower doors in this way trying to squeeze through.

Not embarrassed or anything, I always just highlight the way some spaces are not made with fat people in mind. We exist and can't just click our fingers to become magically skinny (and not that we should want to either!). Not even just fat people, taller/larger people must struggle too!

With that in mind, what other spaces have you experienced that clearly weren't or aren't built for plus sized people? (e.g theatre seats, coaster rides etc)

I did a double take and laughed uncomfortably. I have been eating nothing but hard boiled eggs and slices of cheese since. It just dawned on me that I haven't eaten anything in 2 days. Welcome back ED! 😁

Look chud, either I stay obese or I fast in the desert for 40 days. Now look what you made me do! :marseyskeleton2:

hard boiled eggs and slices of cheese

also what

I went to the doctor recently and had gained some weight after a really emotional rough year. The nurse took my weight, didn’t tell me what it was, and said “the scales says you’re gorgeous!” And then my doctor didn’t make a big fuss about it and instead relied on actual health metrics like how I feel, blood pressure, and blood work to determine her assessment. You are not the problem. It’s your doctor. It’s this shitty societal norm to have to comment and emphasize other peoples bodies and choices. Please get help. You got this miss girl.

A REAL doctor would never tell me to quit smoking. :marseyindignant:

If that woman doesn't like your body, be the opposite of her. Love the shit out of your body! Spend your next day off pampering your body to signify how much it's actually worth. Nourish your body. Relax into your body. Rub your fanciest lotion into your skin. Wear your most flattering perfume. Cook or order in your favorite meal to show your body you want it to be soft, strong, and healthy. Frick her, your body deserves the best!

"Mommy why does that hippopotamus smell so nice?" :marseywhirlyhat:

This makes me mad and makes me recall why we want low body weight removed from AN criteria.

I will work with people with severe and enduring eating disorders and most have AN but no longer have the low body weight, but they still restrict their eating massively. :marseyhmm:

Please look for a trauma informed doctor

:soyreddit: "NOOO!!!!! STOP DIETING!!! Don't you know it would be dangerous if you were skinny instead of 300 pounds?!!"

I honestly don't know how to search for someone who specializes in trauma. Wtf do I even begin? I honestly had no idea that existed

Google search "trauma informed pcp" and the name of your city or your zip code. Then see if any of the practices that come up are in your insurance network. Good luck!

Why :marseyconfused2: is there a height :marseylongsurfing: filter but no weight filter :marseychonkerfoid: on dating apps :marseyappicon:?

Because weight doesn't define health.

:#soyreddittalking:

A weight preference is not wrong. But there is a faction that is very LOUD that are trying to convince everyone that a weight preference is wrong. Those people need to shut the heck up.

You aren't a BBW. You are obese.

This causes a :marseysneed: storm.

Lots of healthy women's weight can vary by 20 lbs depending on the time of day and where she is in her cycle. Mine always has, and that is one reason I had to stop weighing myself everyday and just stick to weighing myself at the same point in my cycle at the same time of day in order to have a better idea for if I was gaining or losing weight or maintaining. So you could end up with situations where men claimed a woman lied about her weight when she really didn't.

Not only that, but lots of women just wouldn't put their weight into a dating app, so it would be a bit self defeating.

Sorry that chubby ladies offend you so much.

:#marseychonkerfoidpuketalking:

A weight filter would serve no purpose. People carry weight differently. A body shape filter would make more sense.

Edit: A lot of people could easily just lie, too.

Working out primarily for happiness

Tell me I'm not the only one. Or tell me what prioritizing mental health looks like for you in terms of fitness!

Context: Some months ago, I decided that I'm done working out for aesthetics (after a bad breakup, attractiveness didn't feel achievable or useful). I was sick of all the mixed messaging on what we need to do for overall "health". I decided that fitness was just going to be a treat to myself, so I can go as slow as I want, not stress about being "fat", set zero goals other than showing up and being happy, and just be kinder to myself.

I've very consistently attended fitness classes for years but this mindset has been incredible - I'm not making gains at the maximum pace I could be, sure, but after an awful COVID slump, I feel like my old self again. Fitness has been keeping me sane in a very stressful and emotional time. I wanted to put this into the world and find out if anyone else feels similarly - I'm okay if progress takes years, this isn't my job. I'd rather be happy and healthy than be totally drained trying to keep up with Caroline Girvan every day. (SO MUCH respect to those of you who can do it, you inspire me constantly, I just need to go at my own pace!)

Anyone else happy in the slow lane? Have you discovered anything interesting?

https://old.reddit.com/r/xxfitness/comments/12ubw6g/i_am_supermorbidly_obese_ive_just_started_walking/?sort=controversial

I am supermorbidly obese. I've just started walking at least a mile three or four days a week. Last week, I was thrown off by the week-long rain. What are some exercises I can do inside with little equipment? :marseychonkerfoid:

I live on the second floor. I moved in a year ago and I was totally out of breath after four steps! I live in a very hilly area and I have to walk up stairs to get to the parking lot or to go back to my units. So that has been inevitable! I didn't walk much last year because I was self-conscious at how I'd get straight up lightheaded and stumbly after going up a modest set of stairs. Now I can carry up a ton of groceries and then go down and do it again!

Anyway, they say April showers bring May flowers, right? This April has been extra wet. I really felt it when it rained all last week and I only got in a two hour walk on one day. It still doesn't take much to work me out and I recently bought two resistance bands to start to prepare for rainy days! What are some exercises I can do indoors?

I'll be straightforward: I'm 5'6" and 315lbs. I started at 355lbs. Keep that in mind. But also keep in mind that I am still very flexible, so stamina will be the biggest issue for a while still. (I'd love help with that now too, but that's not my primary issue.)

Thank you! I'm excited to try some new things.

Edit: WOW! This response is amazing and so confidence-boosting! I just came in from a long walk and I'll be reading everything y'all have said. Thank you!

https://old.reddit.com/r/xxfitness/comments/12nhgr6/do_planks_ever_get_funner_than_miserable_how_do/?sort=controversial

Do planks ever get "funner" than "miserable"?! How do you breathe?! How do you pass the time?! :ethot:

Hello frans,

32F, 136lb, life-long skinny-fat (until recently). I'm very new to working out and am learning to really enjoy it! Been doing a lot of dumb bell exercises, and trying to strengthen my core now. I'm doing straight-legged deadlifts and bent over rows, which are becoming fun, but... planks SUUUUCK.

I started with 3 sessions per week 2 weeks ago with 3 sets of 30 second planks, I've slowly increased to 35 seconds. Goal is to just gradually extend by 1-2 seconds each week. I'd be really proud to even reach 60 seconds! However, by 15 seconds I'm just so miserable and time passes SO slowly. I tried to put on a show today to distract myself, which kind of worked, but then because it was slightly easier to do I don't know if I was in proper form. I also find it's hard to take deep breaths in what I believe is proper plank form.

Questions:

1. Do planks get "funner"? Please tell me it gets funner...

2. How do you pass the time?

3. Is it normal to only be able to take shallow breaths during planks?

TIA!

Edit: Thank you SO MUCH for all those that've responded! I haven't been able to respond yet today, and can hardly stay awake at the moment. Just wanted to let you know I see your productive feedback and am so grateful. Can't wait to look into all of these recommendations!

Is my PT bad? :marseychtorrr2: :!marseycracka:

For some context, I’m 160 cm/5’2 height and weight 56kg/124.5 lbs. I’m not very active and I work sitting at my desk 8 hours a day. For the last 2 years, I always feel tired and weak. My knee start to hurt for no reason, I have no energy during the day. I’m insecure about my body and it’s been affecting my mental health. So, I decided to go to the gym to get healthier.

A week ago, I registered at a gym near my house and booked a female PT for 1 month. Even though this place is small, they have female trainers which make me feel a bit more comfortable. Well, I've been having mixed feeling after just training with her for 3 days.

First 2 days were alright-ish. She never ask for my experience or my goal, she never explained which muscle the exercise is targeting at and just told me to copy her. I though this was weird but she did correct my form so I just brushed it off. She gave me an eat ‘clean’ meal plan which basically half lean meat and half vegetables. I can have carb but only about 2 slices of bread a day. She also told me to cut oily food which make sense. Though I mostly agree, I also told her that I don’t have time to cook and I eat meals cooked by my family but I will do my best to cut carbs and fat.

On day 3, she asked about my meal and I told her honestly that my family had some fried chicken for dinner but since I know it’s oily, I removed the skin and I ate a whole bowl of salad with it. I was so full from the salad that I only able to finish 1 drumstick. She suddenly flipped. Saying “even if I removed the skin and ate a bunch of veggies , it’s still fried in oil and will make me fat. This will ruin all my efforts in the gym.” She then point to a middle age woman and said, “see that woman, she has been training in the gym for half a year and hasn’t lose any weight”. I was so shocked. I can’t believe what she just said. I get that she was angry with me since I didn’t follow her meal plan but why did she feel the needs to body shame other woman!??

She is asking for my body picture so she could compare after a month but now I don’t feel comfortable to send her, I afraid of what she will think of my body. I don’t even want to go to the gym tomorrow…

Ps: English not my first language so I’m sorry for any grammar mistakes.

Scared to start exercising/tactics to start exercising :marseywhirlyhat:

Hi, I (F16) want to start exercising, and I will start to go to the gym in the summer, but I'm really scared. I'm scared because ever since I was in elementary school, I've been really bad at things like running and I have really poor stamina so it was always embarrassing to do anything physical (I was the kid who was always picked last and always got last: i.e. the time my P.E. teacher left before I finished the mile because even though I was trying to run the whole time, I was so slow it took me 15 minutes) and when I exercise it just makes me feel plain tired and gross. I'm scared to try because I always give up on even really small goals if it's not going my way, but I feel like I really need the exercise to be healthy. Like now I get winded really easily, and any time I try to run I almost immediately get a stomach cramp and have to stop, and when I do things where I have to bend my knees, they start aching and hurting really quickly. I know I need to do it for my health but I'm scared I'll just give up.

Would something easy to start (in the summer because I'm too busy with school to go to the gym and I can't drive by myself) be:

- Walking my dog everyday to get walking in

- Playing just dance because it's fun and also good exercise

- going to the gym with mom when she goes and learning how to use the machines and stuff

- eating less processed foods (when I can start to learn what's good to eat and how to cook when I have time in the summer)

Would some more fun activities like playing just dance help ease my body into exercise more while not giving it a bad association? I just am curious if it is good to try and start exercising like this. Thanks

["Effortpost"] TwoX copes about double standards for weight

OP:

And even if a woman is in the lower tier of normal weight, if she carries smidgen of fat in her thighs or butt, she's considered 'thicc'. It's like every woman needs to be underweight and curveless, like a young teenager, to be considered 'acceptable'. Just a common annoyance that's been on my mind lately.

Edit: All bodies are beautiful. I'm just frustrated that a 'normal' weight doesn't typically seem to be considered 'acceptable' for women in particular. And by 'normal', I mean BMI 'normal' not the more subjective, society 'normal'.

I'm a 30 year old woman and as I got to my late 20s I realized that if I want to be thin (like average/healthy thin, not super skinny, just not fat) I have to pay attention to what I eat pretty much every single day, all day long. I'm always hungry and up for eating snacks so 24/7 I have to be vigilent and make sure I'm not eating too much.

I cook nearly all my meals and it's mostly vegetarian food and limited oil/sugar, I don't drink soda ever, I never eat fast food, I eat junk food occasionally (probably once per week I make a bad decision like eating a bag of crisps), I do drink alcohol but not a crazy amount. I could easily eat like 3x the portion sizes of what I'm supposed to have for each meal, like it might be tofu and rice and veggies but I could eat a lot of it.

Is this just what it will be like for the rest of my life? I have to stay vigilent and think about what I'm eating every day 24/7 or be overweight? Are the thin people around me having to be careful with everything they eat every day and that's how they stay thin?

I boxed throughout my 20s at 335 lbs. I'm 44 bench 300 lb because my shoulders can't do more and, as mentioned, the bike.

But don't miss understand I'm 315 lbs at 6ft. I've got muscle but there's a lot of fat too.

Ozempic is threatening the 'body positivity' movement as Americans who were told to embrace being plus sized have found an easy way to get slim, experts have warned.

'Larger people can swiftly transition to a more societally acceptable size. Ozempic is a miracle drug, a cure for the fatness we've begrudgingly forced ourselves to accept.'

The body positivity movement began in earnest in 1969, when an engineer named Bill Fabrey created the National Association to Aid Fat Americans, today known as the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance.

In the 21st century, body positivity was embraced by corporations looking to market to a wider audience. Brands like Dove ran ads featuring women of different sizes and others embraced the 'all bodies are beautiful' tagline.

Gabi Menard, an influencer who found fame with the body positivity movement, announced in May that she was taking Ozempic simply to be 'skinny.'

She was hit with backlash and promptly deleted the video - but this didn't stop netizens from leaving comments on following posts, including one reading: 'How's the Ozempic?'

journ*list Constance Grady said body positivity simply doesn't make sense for many companies' bottom line anymore

'The way that a lot of corporations and brands paid lip service to body positivity turned out to be really shallow, and as soon as Ozempic arrived, we saw them start to turn their backs on it,' she said.

Dr. Shauna Levy, assistant professor of surgery at Tulane University Medical Center, argued that the body positivity movement is experiencing a shift simply because Ozempic provides an easy means of losing weight.

'I think this movement confused people in many different ways because there was this assumption that just because big is beautiful big is also healthy,'

This just in: fat people eat more which is why they’re fat. If you’re comfortable with eating a lot and being fat then there’s nothing wrong with this.

That's not the only reason why people are fat. Some fat people have metabolic disorders. Some fat people live in food deserts. Some fat people have gut microbiomes that contribute to the problem. Some fat people do overeat. It's not a simple issue and making it out to be one is disingenuous. [-5]

This comment section is disgusting. There are many factors that contribute to weight gain, even more so for women. Obesity isn’t as simple as calories in, calories out. This is some ignorant BS right here. She could eat regular healthy meals and still have weight issues. That comment is soooo out of line.

And telling someone they deserve to be ridiculed for their appearance because they ‘put themselves out there’?! You mean overweight and obese individuals disgust you and you don’t want to see them so they should hide themselves away from the public. If they have to go out in public should cover themselves so other people don’t have to see it. What a disgusting mindset. You’re shaming people for their bodies. Could you be any more immature?! As a medical professional I must say, if looking at someone else’s body disgusts you, that’s a YOU problem. Fat people should be allowed to lead normal lives, go out in public, wear swim suits etc without others shaming them for their appearance. This is just a bad excuse for being nasty and hurtful to others.

This goes for disabled persons as well.

You people need a serious paradigm shift. Someone’s weight is none of your business. Making jokes like this is NOT funny; it stereotypes and ridicules fat people.

I guarantee none of you are in a place to judge other people. Y’all need to work on your EQ. [:marseylongpost:]

I’m fat. It’s not healthy and I’m trying to do something about it. I don’t mind some fat women, especially black women can be sexy when fat. Lizzo is an exception. [-16]
