Years ago, I created a massive list of disturbing films on IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/list/ls009209730/
As of this writing, the list has 1,706 titles on it and easily the largest such list on the internet.
However, as many of you know, I was in prison from 2015 to 2024 and, as such, I was obviously not able to keep the list updated. Could you all please fill me in on the disturbing films that have come out since then? There's a list from /r/DisturbingMovies, but it's largely useless. It was made by Redditards, so it's filled with films that don't even remotely belong on a list of disturbing movies, like Watership Down and The Dark Crystal. To be on my list, the content has to be at least at R-rated level.
(As a side note, while I was in prison, I wrote a detailed outline for my own attempt at creating the most disturbing film ever made (partially inspired by the disgusting s*x offenders who I was forced to be surrounded by) - one that would not only far exceed every other "sickest movie ever made" in terms of on-screen depravity, but would also tell an emotionally devastating story filled with truly heartbreaking pathos. The fact that even the deeply jaded and desensitized prison staff were shocked and disturbed by it (and repeatedly spoke to me about it) told me that I did exactly what I set out to do.)

Groove is a movie from 2000 depicting the completly non existent underground rave scene that never happened in San Francisco, years after techno music was declared dead and well before daredevil sandstorm became culturally relevant.
The movie is critically acclaimed because of the number of homosexuals in the movie, far higher than even current day star wars films. The film takes a brave and novel approach similar to Battle Royale or God's Not Dead in shoving as many subplots and side characters as possible to cover up the lack of character development or a story.
The main character is a straggot who takes drugs and falls in love with a biogirl. Yeah that's about all you need to know about him, other than being a massive nerd and a real subtle go to college meme.
Some dudes break into an abandoned warehouse and set up bad lighting and some turntables for awful djs to playawful music and do bad transitions between tracks.
Theres more cute twinks than straggots in the film, from a monogamous homo couple (lol) to dude who cheats on his girlfriend with a guy to a wide variety of drug dealers and even a dude dressed in highlighters. There's even a foid furry girl in it how embarrassing.
At some point nick Offerman (a cop) shows up to break up the party so they have to move seamlessly into another warehouse in an hour with better lighting. The tard wrangler tries to bluff the cops and fails.
Theres a wide variety of modern archetypes from DJs who think they can make a career doing this to prideful drug users to prideful homosexuals of nearly every stripe. The film needs more trans people to become watchable but I think it's close to representing the degeneracy of modern amerikkka. There's also a lot of white people so we can't have that.
Overall 17/25

OP wonders why the RT audience score is so low and believes it might be the fault. Some agree but many are not having it and begin to nootice !noticers !kino
People are blaming the political dummies, which I'm sure plays a part, but I also think it has just generally been a weak few episodes. Definitely continuing the downward trend from the s3 finale... Most of the storylines they are spending too much time on right now are entirely uninteresting
blaming conservatives when a show bombs has been their goto for a few years now.
Same thing with she hulk, Captain Marvel, the star wars shows.
it's never bad writing, just those crazy MAGAs review bombing it again.
Most peculiar huh?
I can see why. I couldn't care at all for the Hughie, Frenchie, Kimiko, and Starlight plot lines.
The Homelander, Butcher, Ryan, Vicky, and Sage stuff is carrying hard for me.
Must not be fans of the very political comic
What if I said that the political commentary was the only part of it I enjoy?
That part is spot on, as is Sage's 5Head machinations, but the exceedingly slow burning fuse of The Boys actually taking down Supes is the part I don't like. There's a lot of what feels like B-Plot Filler. Hughies Family stuff, Frenchies Past, and even the Butcher/Ryan arc are all retreads of past plot lines. Kimiko going "rogue" and taking down human traffickers is about the only B-Plot I enjoy.
The political drama is so weak - and the fact that the "smartest PERSON in the world's" big plan is just to be an agitator is so sophomoric. This is what a junior writer thinks is the smartest idea in the world. Basically every character in this show that isn't a main character (and a few of them, too) is written as if they have an IQ of 40. It's so shallow and cheap and really betrays what the writers think of their audience.
if the 1 stars were mostly a deep dive into the shows pacing or changes I'd agree, they are clearly more concerned with sister sage, LGBT themes, wokeness, DEI etc.
I really don't know how somebody watches Homelander “laser somebody in the middle of 5th” while being surrounded and still supported by people holding American flag posters and memorabilia and not see the direct parallel. This is like a 5th grade context clues and understanding test that they failed.
I know they typically miss those context clues from research, but I'd say Frenchie and Sister Sage are more directly in your face as they exist visually as minorities and are often directly named in the reviews for this season.
NOOOO NOT THE POOR VISIBLE MINORITIES, THAT'S WHY CHUDS HATE IT
I mean there has been a bit of a dip in quality and Eric Kripke has been insufferable in between season 3 and 4. I still like the show but the first three episodes felt underwhelming compared to previous seasons.
Can you explain what he's said because I don't keep up
I read an interview where he was asked something to the effect of “what do you think about those fans that watch the show and think homelander is a good guy?” And he basically responded “they are all stupid, frick them, I don't want them watching my show”
Wait so what's wrong with him saying that?
That's a fair comment. Homelander is the clear cut villain. Thinking he's the good guy is like watching Star Wars and cheering for Darth Vader.
STOP ROOTING FOR THE VILLAIN!
Lmao, lot's of people rooted for Darth Vader, I don't think George Lucas ever threw a fit to the public because of that.

!kino !bookworms the showrunners and writers botched the Blood and Cheese plot (2 r-slurs as killers, neurodivergent Helaena displayed no emotion), no Jacaerys reaction to his brother's death and “trad” queen Alicent gets her kitty licked by former volcel Ser Criston Cole, much to the chagrin of greenstrags. Aegon and his drinking buddies on the Iron Throne was funny though.

My radio controlled hobby since 1995 has expanded to a large fleet of construction equipment models from fumotec-shop.de of Germany.
Primarily 12v electric hydraulic functions & some models use linear actuators for function as well. The models are mostly kits that I have built & modified to my liking, some of them are scratchbuilt by me as well.

Accomplishments with RC:
Enlarged my basement 30%, dirt removed approx. 30 cubic meter
Dug a walk through tunnel from my workshop into the basement of my house, dirt removed approx. 25 cubic meter
I'm a grain farmer (had cattle too for 25yrs, quit them a few yrs ago) from southwest Saskatchewan, Canada

It's not an excellent film, it's not a smart film, but it's not as terrible as some make it out to be. In my opinion among Schwarzenegger films it is on the same levels as 6th Day or Twins or Kindergarten Cop (the latter maybe being a bit better).
And I'm not saying this because I enjoy it in some meta-ironic trans-coded postmodernist way. It's just a fun film and does not deserve the 4/10 rating that the likes of imbd give it

I'm halfway through season one and I'm starting to get the impression that this is a show for women. I had a suspicion about it from the start but figured it couldn't be because the the male characters weren't attractive enough. And yet the premise is suppose to be about life in the cut-throat advertising world but so far most of the drama revolves around having affairs, marital problems, and catfights - the most interesting thing that's happened so far is Draper's wife slapping the divorced single mom at the supermarket. The parts that are suppose to depict the competitive business world they live in is just a business meeting where draper gets up and says "Gentlemen... let me ask you something: Got milk?" Again, it seems like boilerplate "high stakes business drama" that the women viewers are suppose to take in the appearance but not the substance of to intuit the social status of each man.
I read some online discussions about it to figure out the viewership demographics and to find out what specifically people like about it beyond the melodrama, and a lot of the bring up the 'enigma' of Draper's character, which is something I've gotten no sense of myself. Other characters constantly hint about how they don't know anything about him, but I don't notice any idiosyncrasies about him that demand explanations that are suppose to make me care; dude sleeps with lots of women and feels conflicted about it, but I figured that was an attempt by the writer's to give a conscience to the standard licentious male protag. If this is a major thing that's suppose to drive the course of the show then it leaves me uneasy because this 'mystery box' style of writing is something I've started to loathe because of the bad payoffs: am I in for more melodrama here?
There's also the incessant browbeating about muh racism and muh sexism, which irks me because I'm a turbochud, but I can tolerate that as long as there are other redeeming qualities to watch for. So far what I like about the shows are brainstorming sessions where Draper comes up his insights about society or human psychology in order to make ads; that at least shows promise about some interesting things the show might have to say. I also like the quips from the male characters; the female sass is pretty grating though.
So am I off the mark here for clocking this as womenslop? I watched like two seasons of downton abbey before I clued in because I'm neurodivergent so my radars are probably way overcorrected when it comes to period drama. What's drama's appraisal?

Context: Star Wars has recently come out with a new show, The Acolyte, that has bitterly divided the fandom. It had received an extremely poor audience Rotten Tomatoes score before it even came out, actors from it have been harassed, and has been the subject of numerous extremely negative Youtube videos mostly from those on the right and far right. A post is made on /r/prequelmemes claiming that Lucas would not be a fan of the modern fandom due to his left wing beliefs, and argument ensues. How much of the criticism is in good faith? Is Disney Star Wars pushing politics? Is the Acolyte actually bad? Is the Star Wars fandom toxic?
Some commenters think Lucas' politics are obviously left wing:
Andor is my communist manifesto
Others debate if any criticism of The Acolyte and Disney Star Wars in general is being construed as bigotry:
yea good move from disney to call all of his fan base racist and sexist just genius
Disney has to blame something for the crap products they push these days though.
Just call everyone a Nazi and go home already.
