I think we have an opportunity here to cause significant drama across all of Reddit. They'll blame /u/spez for colluding with Musk and Trump. They'll call Reddit a right-wing website now.

I was just going to leave the thread blank for two reasons:
1) Since the film is so in love with cutesy little meta-metacommentary it seemed appropriate because
2) I felt absolutely nothing for this movie,
however that's too subtle, so like Cabin in the Woods itself I will now belabor the point long past anyone's ability to care.
I honestly don't even know where to begin with this. It wasn't offensively bad or anything a la Black Swan, it isn't good-bad like Chopping Mall, it's not just plain old serviceable and therefore solid in its decency like The Omen, and it certainly isn't good. And it's like it was written to preemptively shield itself from criticism.
I could call it formulaic. The defense would be that of course it's formulaic, that's the point of the movie haha they even named the generic slasher archetypes at the end, the formulaicism is part of the joke.
I could call it uninspired. The defense would similarly be that of course it's uninspired, there's a Cube-style room of rooms with all the monsters from everything, it's all deliberately derivative and referential.
I could call it not scary. The defense would again similarly be that this is also intentional, look how it's also billed as a comedy. Nevermind that it's not funny either, because it's also billed as a horror.
The plain and simple of it is that it is formulaic, and this goes for the meta-meta narrative as well. Yes the silly organization's point is to enact the contrived ritual that plays out with horror movie tropes because it's supposed to, that's not whats formulaic about it. It can be argued that every beat up to the descent into the facility is formulaic by design, but once they're through that door that excuse falls flat.
The plain and simple of it is that it is uninspired. One of the technicians remarks early on that they're allowed to cheat to make things play out as needed as much as they want. Later we see that security personnel gunning down the sacrifices meets the requirementsβthere's no reason not to lead with that and just shoot the whore first. Or to bomb the cabin after shooting the whore. Or literally anything else. The overarching narrative cannot be flimsy because the arguably intentionally shitty internal narrative is wink-wink-shitty to allow room for that larger one. The overall story is just there as an excuse to make 8104 different references (HAHA THE WHITEBOARD TALKS ABOUT THE R*PE TREES FROM EVIL DESD LOL) and give 3 second cameos to creatures from other movies. The facility and organization itself is just a Cube Zero knockoff anyway.
The plain and simple of it is that it is neither scary nor funny. There are no stakes even with the apocalypse on the horizon and then actualizing to end the film. Everyone is boring and sucks. Literally Shaggy from scooby doo as the lead can't go any other way. The humor predates it by several years but it all smacks of that atrocious Rian Johnson Star Wars movie with the yo momma joke; it's quip "comedy" without the quips but the exact same degree of unwarranted and omnipresent self-satisfaction.
This is, however, a lot more negativity than Cabin in the Woods strictly deserves. I don't feel any sort of profound loathing for it or anything, it did nothing to elicit any particular emotion that strong. It's a completely unremarkable hour and a half.
For a movie with such an incredibly promising cover and inexplicably golden critic reviews from the beforetimes when critics evaluated things by metrics other than how much gay s*x a film has in it, the only thing I feel in any notable sense is confusion as to how either of these things happened. That and I want to watch Hellraiser because cenobites are great even if they are bootleg and have 30 seconds of screentime in an utterly mid movie.

Not to be the devils advocate here because it does sound like op has a shit husband.
However, her husband does have every right to decide to leave the relationship based the sexual side of the relationship. He's not asking her to have s*x that she doesn't consent to, he's asking her to consent or he will leave.
OP doesn't want it and I think she should say ok then, leave. It's not unreasonable for op to not like this arrangement and it's pretty shitty for her husband to cheat and then demand a certain quantity of s*x that she doesn't like.
It's pretty shitty to have 2 kids with someone and then decide I get to frick your butt twice a week or I'm out. If that's truly a deal breaker then it should've been discussed before marriage and kids.

years ago, back in my bachelor (degree) days ππI was in a material history of central Italy in antiquity class, and we were looking at a pretty standard statue depicting ancient italians. this lady who looked like a Reddit avatar asks: "if these are Italians, why are they depicting asians with dreads.." she then says something about culture appropriation. I nearly did a backflip in my seat. The prof was thrown off for like a good 5 secs.
The next year I'm in another elective with this person. African history, very easy but a lovely class. An iron age Italian tribe and a pre Iron Age African tribe have the same name and this person asks "so how did x group get over there "

Honest to god had two coworkers spout "Elon is a Nazi" and they act like they honestly believe it. Incredibly childish and beyond immature. Say you don't like the guy, sure, whatever, but I think to accuse anyone of nazism these days is truly π¬ behavior of the worst most normie order. Words simply have no meaning anymore.

My great grandpa (maternal side) is Czech and he once told us of how during the rise of the Nazi Party in neighboring Germany, but there were many in Czechoslovakia as well who were sympathetic to the Nazis, Hitler and their ideals, as truth be told, many Czechs saw the Germans as "equals", thought that the Nazis hatred of Jews, Roma people or Slavic people somehow didn't apply to them (Czechs who saw themselves as "Germanic" and/or sympathized with the Nazis).
Meanwhile many of those who opposed and/or did not sympathize with the Nazis also downplayed the threat the Nazis posed by saying things like "Oh, what's happening in Germany won't happen here", or "Hitler won't make good on his crazy threat to invade us", "Oh, it probably won't get that bad" or some other way of saying that we (those who are raising alarms over the danger Hitler actually posed) are overeacting.
When Hitler's forces invaded, a number of Czech people actually welcomed them giving Nazi salutes to the columns of invading Nazi troops or tearing down the Czech flag from buildings themselves to replace it with Nazi flags.
However, my great grandpa saw the danger the Nazis posed, the repression, violence and death they'd bring and lo and behold, when the Nazis did actually occupy Czechoslovakia, turns out the Nazis weren't just oppressing the Jews, gay people, communists, liberals, Czech nationalists and academics, but also extended their oppression of ordinary Czech people, including those of Germanic ancestry. Turns out, the Nazis didn't see us as equals after all and many of those Czechs who welcomed the Nazis had a "why are the leopards eating my face, I supported them?" mentality when the Gestapo came after them as well.
This is basically an oversimplification of why my great grandpa told me but yeah, the reason the Nazis (and fascism in general) was able to rise the way it does was because people either underestimated its danger or downplayed it for years, treating them like a joke until that joke wasn't funny anymore.
