Israel has been ranked last in the 2024 Nation Brands Index (NBI), placing it among the world's most underdeveloped and unstable countries, according to the report published by Anholt Nation Brands Index on Tuesday.
The findings, based on a comprehensive survey conducted between July and August 2024, highlight a growing global sentiment that perceives Israel as a destabilizing force rather than an innovative and progressive nation.
The NBI survey, which gathered insights from over 40,000 respondents across 70 countries, ranked nations based on six key dimensions: governance, culture, people and society, exports, immigration and investment, and tourism.
Governance measures perceptions of a country's political stability, transparency, and security. Culture evaluates a nation's heritage, arts, and sports. People and society assess friendliness, openness, and global employability.
Exports focus on technological innovation, product quality, and economic influence. Immigration and investment examine the country's business environment, attractiveness for relocation, and foreign investment potential.
Tourism considers a nation's appeal as a travel destination, the beauty of its architecture, and the general willingness of respondents to visit.
According to the NBI report, Israel performed poorly across all categories, particularly among younger respondents, with Generation Z overwhelmingly ranking it at the bottom.
The study also revealed a growing aversion to Israeli products, with many respondents indicating they were unwilling to purchase goods labeled "Made in Israel." This suggests a de facto boycott that could pose a serious risk to Israeli exports and international business operations.
Despite its reputation as the "Start-Up Nation," Israel's technological leadership is not widely recognized beyond specific industry circles. European respondents, for example, ranked Israel lower in technological advancements than the United Arab Emirates, reinforcing the idea that Israel's self-perception does not align with how it is viewed globally.
According to Motti Scherf, founder of Brand IL: "Israel has lost its legitimacy in the international community and has been cast into the backyard of global affairs. It is time to acknowledge the failure of traditional public diplomacy and adopt innovative nation-branding models."
Although Israel maintains high objective indicators, such as a GDP per capita that is 80% higher than the nations it is grouped with and a life expectancy of 83 years, its ranking remains exceptionally low. Only 40% of the countries ranked alongside Israel are democracies, suggesting that Israel's democratic character is not perceived as a distinguishing advantage.
The Palestinian issue also continues to impact international sentiment. For the first time, Brand IL, a private initiative, ensured Palestine was included in the rankings.
While Palestine was placed below Israel, it received greater sympathy in the Muslim world, China, and among younger generations. Additionally, the NBI report highlights a broader trend in which conflict nations are penalized equally, regardless of the context.
Countries involved in ongoing disputes, including Russia, Ukraine, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority, were all placed at the bottom of the index, reinforcing the global perception that such nations contribute to instability rather than progress.
In response to Israel's deteriorating global image, the private initiative Brand IL has launched a $100 million rebranding effort aimed at reversing negative perceptions and repositioning Israel on the international stage.
The initiative seeks to establish a development financial institution, utilizing blended capital from governmental, business, and philanthropic sources. The focus will be on launching outreach programs in key target countries, particularly among younger demographics, to unlock new markets for Israeli technologies and innovations.

I know it's stupid to seriouspost about this kind of stuff on rDrama, but frick...
Oddly, November Rain isn't one of those songs, I think it actually makes me feel a bit better. But this is about as far as I can go with any music that refers to romantic themes right now... it just hurts too much. At least November Rain has some machismo to it. I feel like if I put on any Leonard Cohen or somesuch right now I'd just feel psychologically destroyed, the remains of my holding myself together ripped apart like shittily made ropes on a ship in a tempest.
Weird how a relationship that lasted for many months can just kind of evaporate in one night. Although I suppose if it does, maybe it's because it was already evaporating.

For anyone unfamiliar, the eponymous "crises" in the title are NOT about the evil orange man who is bad - Notes on the Crises is a political economy newsletter started a few years ago by Nathan Tankus to comment on the intersecting global economic disasters triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Nathan is a @TracingWoodgrains style "truth neurodivergent" not a wingcucked political hack. He's just a big giant dork who does things like FOIA request the minutes from all US Federal Reserve Board meetings from 1967-1973
Nathan looks like this, and I would believe almost anything that he writes, because it is backed by powerful neurodivergent spirits.
When he writes about the COBOL code in the treasury department, I'm confident he's talking to beardy old men who write and maintain that code.
I would also like to clarify some confusion on social media. The issue with understanding and grasping a COBOL system is not knowing COBOL, as a programming language, in the abstract. Nor is it, god help me, something that AI can "do" because you fired one of these chatbots up and got some code that could compile when you asked "write me some COBOL code". The issue is understanding the specific physical limitations of the system, the way that it interacts with the "Business Logic" of the code and a million other contextual factors.
There is specific code which tells you where to direct specific payments in specific ways and the structures, and why they are structured the way they are, requires deep contextual knowledge. This is "business logic". The entire issue with COBOL and why it has been such a struggle to maintain it is that COBOL systems (both private and public) developed for decades with very little documentation, have a million different path dependent coding choices. Mar Hicks 2020 article in Logic Magazine "Built to Last" is worth a read on this topic.
This is what I meant yesterday when I referenced that 30 different COBOL systems at Treasury had developed their own "dialects" and they launched Payment Application Modernization (PAM), which among other things, unified them. What they unified was the business logic of those systems (as well as likely other factors, most notably the physical architecture of the systems they ran on). Part of me wishes they didn't modernize with PAM because those 30 different and distinct systems would have been more secure from their infiltration. PAM processed 4.7 trillion dollars of payments in 2024.
It's also true that some similar issues can emerge with other more recent programming languages and the way "business logic" emerges if a mission critical IT system developed using a more recent programming language. But COBOL is unique; after all it's literally "common business-oriented language". So while knowing the COBOL programming language is better than not knowing it, it does not make that much of a difference with these young Musk programmers mucking about.

Is there any reason to use the word uchu? It seems like almost everything (colour schemes, AI models, startups, cowtools, apps, ...) is named using a single randomly-selected Japanese word these days. But... why?
you know why
I'm confused by the usage of the word color scheme.
To me a color scheme is something like monokai.
A small number of colors that go well together. The application (eg syntax highlighting in a code editor) is obvious and easy. This is just...lots of monochrome colors? How would I use this? Not trying to be dismissive, I'm just confused.
Yeah imo they should've used "color palette".

Sounds like projection on your part.
I'm never going to be strong enough to repel a Nazi, but generalizing here, keep up your health. It is beneficial in so many ways I won't bother to list them. Everyone on reddit hates me because I always bring up cooking your own food, not smoking, not drinking, getting exercise every day, giving up fast food and ultraprocessed stuff. It's all key to keeping your body and teeth healthy over the years.
The effects are cumulative - one day you wake up and you have some godawful chronic disease, or your ticker isn't what it could be, or you need yet another root canal, and you are slowed down and inconvenienced by having to use the medical system all the time, take pills, etc.
Also, get an annual check up if only so you have a record of your own stats. It's actually interesting to compare your numbers year to year.
As a nazi myself, this is all really good advice. Regardless of what ideology you have, everyone should abandon unhealthy lifestyles and unhealthy food. Most fast food/door dash and other stuff you get in groceries are deliberately kept unhealthy in order to have a population that can't resist and constantly kept broke and in debt. (not to mention how immoral some of the sources of this food are.) You don't need to be shredded but eating well and working out daily with basic calisthenics goes a long way.
As someone who's immunocompromised from a COVID vaccine injury, I've learned that sometimes the best choice isn't to fight head-on, but to hide and protect myself. It's a hard reality, but sometimes survival means stepping back, staying safe, and waiting for a time when I'm stronger.
In Harry Potter, Harry and his friends often had to choose between direct confrontation and retreat. Hiding, like when Harry and his allies went into hiding in The Deathly Hallows, was often the wisest choice. It wasn't about surrender, but about preserving their strength for when it was truly needed.
Similarly, Anne Frank showed us the power of survival. She and her family lived in hiding, and though it was painful and isolating, it was their only chance to stay alive. Sometimes, hiding isn't a sign of weakness; it's a strategy to make sure we can continue the fight later.
For me, hiding isn't giving up. It's about protecting my health and holding onto hope for a better, safer future.
(OP) this is real and valid, but PLEASE try to avoid citing transphobic authors. Stay safe!

I just started watching but it's obvious to anyone. I wasn't even trying to find faults. So for example on the boxart of the rerelease of moana 1 or in the actual movie she looks like this:
However in Moana 2 her hair looks like it hasn't been cleaned, less soft, her eyes are more far apart like half a centimeter like her voice actor actually looks.
I think she's actually fatter too but it's all so subtle. The funny part is this is obviously DEI, there's no reason to change the models of the characters so much. Almost all the characters look more realistic and less cartoony and cute. This is super strange as normally you'd want the models to be more consistent. Also everyone's hair has less pieces to it, seeming more clumpy, meaning less render time. She also radiates more girl boss energy and the expressions are less cute. So she just has that wierd/b-word intentionally cringe face in some scenes.
Movie is fine other than it pissing on my autism and noticing powers.
