Backstory: Fidelity Investments has some account called a Cash Management Account. It's a hybrid of a brokerage account (account you buy stocks) and a checking account (can write checks, debit card, bill pay). It's been around for a while, but it became a pretty popular tool in the internet personal finance sector because the setup let you earn ~5% of your money at all times. But it's not a real checking account (important).
A few weeks ago, the Chase glitch occurred. But a glitch allowed 
to deposit a check (stolen or just their own), and instead of putting a hold and clearing it over a few days they got access to the funds immediately. So they would deposit a check for let's say $5,000, and then instantly withdraw the money. Obviously a super r-slurred thing to do with your account, but 
.
This was quickly fixed, but it caused some to wonder. What if other institutions did the same? Well they do. Banks have been operating on the clear first and ask questions later premise for a while, and brokerages even more so. This has brought to the limelight a type of fraud that's been around for a while. It's apparently coordinated through Telegram, and abuses mobile deposits not ATMs.
This leads into the Fidelity boyz:

Fidelity was a nice target too since their mobile deposit limit was $100,000. Fidelity last week caught onto this and then decided to implement some combination of these measures onto most of the accounts:
Reducing mobile deposit to $1,000
Put 15 business day holds on mobile deposits and ACHs
Cancel peoples billpays
Randomly locking accounts
As with most things like this, it's hard to get the true story because you'll see a lot of posts where someone is depositing 30 checks a week and needs to transfer all the money instantly to 5 different bank accounts and then ghost
you when you ask what could they possibly be doing to justify it.
/r/fidelityinvestments mods setup a megathread addressing this and pinned it in the sub. They then answered basically no questions, and then unpinned it 
Yep. I hope people look at these post before they think about opening an account with Fidelity. In my case they are holding my funds till 9th Oct (for deposits made on 16th Sept) . I had to make alternative arrangement to take care of my expenses.
The the worst part is that reddit is allowing Fidelity's moderators to delete posts on this issues and redirect us to this "megathread" which is more like a trash bin. Sorry if I sound frustrated as I really am.....
I recently transferred about $3000 into my Fidelity Cash Management account from US Bank on 9/15, and after 4 days, the funds were still unavailable. When I called to ask why, they explained that it was because I had pulled the funds from Fidelity rather than pushed them from US Bank.
They gave me a vague excuse about "industry trends" and "protecting Fidelity accounts" supposedly justifying the excessive hold. What makes this even more frustrating is that customer support admitted they never informed me about this extended hold upfront, and after reviewing Fidelity's terms, I wasn't able to find mention of such a long hold for this type of transaction.
Now, they've told me the funds will be held until at least 10/8. Even after verifying my identity, they won't release the money. While I can still use the money for things like buying stocks and bonds within Fidelity, the lack of transparency and delay in giving me full access is infuriating.
The more I see on this subreddit the more I become convinced the MegaThead is nothing more than a Catch & Kill effort

Happened last week to me. In my case I deposited a large personal check. The funds had cleared but they still restricted my account as they thought the check was fraudulent or that I wrote it (it was from my mother) they called my mother separately to confirm she wrote the check.
All very absurd but once they lifted the restrictions bill pay returned that same day.
Doctorofcredit thread. A lot of these people were locked since what they do looks pretty similar to money laundering anyway.
With all this backlash, it does make sense that Fidelity is losing some valuable customers.

CHICAGO --- After serving 20 years in state prison for murder, former gangbanger Tyrone Muhammad never expected to return to the city's tough South Side and find Venezuelan migrants and the criminal Tren de Aragua gang moving in. But Muhammad, 53, who's gone straight and runs a street patrol and violence prevention program called Ex-Cons for Community and Social Change says Venezuelan criminal gangs flooding shelters and taking over apartment buildings are the last straw for the struggling African-American community. He says they are furious at seeing government money going to what they call "non-citizens."
"It is impossible to release gang members and criminals into our country through the borders and broken walls and infiltrate them in our community that's already impoverished and broken," Muhammad told The Post last week on the O Block, a stretch along South King Drive that's considered the most dangerous in the city. "When the black gangs here get fed up with the illegalities and criminal activities of these migrants or non-citizens, the city of Chicago is going to go up in flames and there will be nothing the National Guard or the government can do about it when the bloodshed hits the streets. The latest figures show Chicago has spent almost half a billion dollars over the last two years on the more than 42,000 migrants who've arrived since 2022.
Many have been given money for rent, food stamp cards and even cars --- and some landlords have pushed out local African-Americans because they can get more government money for housing migrants.

But Terry Newsome, a white Chicago dad-turned-activist found there were 720 police incident reports logged at the Standard Club alone over the past 12 months.
He's teamed up with Muhammad and others concerned with migrant crime to make dozens of Freedom of Information Act requests to find out what's really going on. "They be moving in our own territory and robbing people but they don't get arrested like we do. " Black P Stone member Corey Rogers took The Post on a drive through the area and pointed out several locations where he said Venezuelan gangs have been "showing the flag," meaning brandishing their guns. He also showed a reporter a gang Whatsapp thread with texts from gang members threatening turf wars with the Venezuelans.
"What bothers me is that the Venezuelans are united," Rogers said. "The black gangs are too divided and they take each other down." Rogers' friend and boss in what they call the "organization," Charles Harris, 55, gestured to an area two blocks from where he was standing in the Woodlawn section. "It's still violent down here but it's calmed down a lot,' Harris said, gesturing to the west. "Back in the day we'd get shot if we went over there. It's calmed down a lot. The last thing we need are the Venezuelans." Muhammad --- who was once the enforcer for Larry Hoover, head of the Gangster Disciples street gang --- formed a group called Ex-Cons for Trump because he feels the Democrats have failed inner-city black people for too long.
"It's not so much Trump himself, it's that the Democrats are selling us down the river," he said. "The boujee (upwardly mobile) blacks might like Kamala Harris but she isn't going to do anything for us." The Rev. Corey Brooks, 55, who established his New Beginnings Church and his outreach group Project Hood on the O Block more than 20 years ago, said his conservatism grew out of years of what he called failed Democratic policies and even being ignored for funding by Black Lives Matter when he tried to get donations for his new community center. "Chicago is a blue city and Illinois is a blue state but people are starting to wake up," Brooks told The Post last week at his church. "It's not about the person, it's about the policies. I've seen what's happening with my own eyes when it comes to the migrant criminal gangs and it's very concerning." Brooks got a firsthand glimpse when he found out about a young Venezuelan migrant who had to flee the apartment he shared with other migrants when they turned out to be a criminal gang a few months ago.
"People will accuse me of fear-mongering because I'm a Republican and a conservative but I know what I saw," Brooks told The Post. "The Venezuelan gangs took over his apartment and were doing illegal activities. I know the crimes that were being committed and how in danger his life was." The young man, aged 27, spoke to The Post but did not want to give his name or go on camera and said he was terrified for his life. "If they found out I was talking to anyone, they'd end my family's life with one bullet," he said in Spanish. "These are bad people." It's not just the gang members upset about the migrants moving in and using up money that locals say would better serve them.
Octavia Mitchell, 52, formed the Heal Your Heart organization after she lost her son, Izael Jackson, to gun violence here in 2010. Last year she lost her nephew, 21-year-old Avante Holmes, when he was gunned down on the South Side. 412 people have been murdered in Chicago so far in 2024 but she said less, not more, is being done to curb black-on-black violence. "I can't even reach nobody at City Hall or anywhere else that cares," Mitchell said. "They care about the migrants but they don't care about people like us whose roots are here. We matter, you know?"

I was crazy broke during the relationship but Kayla was more than willing to offer and pay for things we did or food we ate etc. In Feb 2019, she moved in with me & my dad in Los Angeles. For a month, everything was ok but my dad got extremely sick, March 2019, and was put on life support until September 2019. I was a mess during this time, emotionally and financially. Kayla offered to help me with money stuff so I wouldn't have to stress about bills and things. In June 2019, I discovered that Kayla was cheating on me. In July 2019, I had discovered that my dad's bank account was heavily used, and I thought that was weird because the only thing that should've been pulled from the account was rent and other bills. I go to the bank, prove to them that my dad is in the ICU and can't come, they give me records of the past month. I notice a lot of the charges were for things Kayla and I were doing. Food, shopping, travel etc. I asked the bank for documents from the beginning of the year, and the statements say that in march, money had started to be spent by Kayla. In September 2019 I have to break the news to my dad that this has happened, and when he was able to come home, we curated a contract with Kayla saying that she will pay us back the amount she spent on things that aren't the bills etc. She strung us along, making excuses, fake accounts, and chargebacks of paypal etc. In 2021, my dad passed from a heart attack, I took over his debt, and Kayla hasn't paid much since. At GP Vegas 2019, I and a few others tried to approach the head judge and tournament organizers about my situation, and they said they couldn't do anything unless there was something legal about Kayla happening at that moment in time. (stole/used $24295.04, paid $12850 (( to date )), signed contract to pay) She also probably stole close to 2k worth of mtg at the beginning of our relationship, but I don't have proof of that.

Would check in and there was always an excuse, so we ended up having to re-do a lot of her work. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and increased the pay for one month since I was assured we didn't originally contract for enough hours to have everything done that we wanted. Overall, after the pay increase, she was fairly non-existent and clearly just pocketed the money, which amounted to $600 for the month. Told her we were done around halfway through the month, since it was clear the money was gone and she wasn't going to do the job we expected. I also paid to have around 10 hours of footage edited from one of our events which came out to a few hundred dollars. Was told it was done several times and that the link would be posted, but it has been months and no link has been received. Even had other people on the team and people involved with footage ask for it and no one ever received the edited footage. At this point, I can only assume nothing was edited and just accepted my losses. Glad to have cut ties when I did, since it's clear this sort of behavior is rampant.
Also, a large reason that she was brought on was for her "experience" doing social media for several brands in the MTG space, most notably SCG. However, it has come to my attention that this was all a lie.

(MMG) I am the Marketing Director for Misty Mountain Gaming brands, which includes our Clash for Cash tournament series. Kayla was hired as my C4C social media marketing assistant roughly 3 months ago. She was interviewed by our company President and hired based on her impressive work experience in marketing and social media management within the MTG space which included working on the marketing team/running social media for Star City Games and Topdeck, among other reputable, established brands in the space. Over the course of the roughly 2 months that she worked with us, I met with her several times to resolve issues we were having with her regarding communication, dishonesty and assigned work not being completed. A very similar experience to the one given above by Mikey of TopDeck.
Prior to our event in OKC, myself and our Manager of Operations met with Kayla again to discuss our concerns regarding the quality of her work and other issues. In this meeting, we came to the understanding that Kayla would be removed from managing our Clash for Cash social sets and discussed her moving to something in the realm of ambassador and content creator for our brand, as we valued her experience and knowledge within the community. We brought her out to our OKC event as a member of our C4C team with the understanding that her role would be creating content around our tournaments, players and guests.
While Kayla was pulled aside several times throughout this event to discuss on-site issues, it was Sunday morning when we received confirmation from SCG that she had not and did not work for them in any marketing capacity that we decided to part ways immediately. I then sat Kayla down, with our TO present at the other end of the table only for mutual oversight, and explained that we had become aware that she had acquired her position with us by misrepresenting her work experience and would be ending our professional relationship with her because of this.

When his outrageous financial demands were not met, Mr. Mullenweg carried out his threats by making repeated false claims disparaging WP Engine to its employees, its customers, and the world. Mr. Mullenweg has carried out this wrongful campaign against WP Engine in multiple outlets, including via his keynote address, across several public platforms like X, YouTube, and even on the Wordpress.org site, and through the WordPress Admin panel for all WordPress users, including directly targeting WP Engine customers in their own private WordPress instances used to run their online businesses.
Mr. Mullenweg's covert demand that WP Engine hand over tens of millions to his for-profit company Automattic, while publicly masquerading as an altruistic protector of the WordPress community, is disgraceful. WP Engine will not accede to these unconscionable demands which not only harm WP Engine and its employees, but also threaten the entire WordPress community. WP Engine has sought to do the right thing at each stage of Mr. Mullenweg's wrongful campaign and will continue to do so, with the integrity and candor that are hallmarks of its own culture and that of many other participants in the WordPress ecosystem. Mr. Mullenweg's words and conduct constitute actionable wrongdoing and must cease immediately.

Hello, the office I work with shares a parking lot with a planned parenthood office and for the 12 years I've worked here they have protested directly in front of our small, professional, super boring office as the planned parenthood doesn't get any cars or foot traffic passing by 🙄🙄🙄I've recently moved to a new office near the front of the building and now if I open the window I can hear them chanting and praying THROUGH MY HEADPHONES. I asked them nicely to quiet down, got ignored, threatened to call the police, screamed obscenities out the window, then actually called the police, all to no avail. I just found out my boss has even called city hall over the years and as long as they are on the public sidewalk nothing can be done. They are so tribally insular compared to even the other races of South Africa, that by large the overwhelming majority of Swazi people either approve of his monarchy, or tolerate it because their tribal customs are so deeply embedded within their very cores.

Residents in at least four of eSwatini's 59 constituencies held demonstrations over the weekend against the rule of King Mswati III, the last absolute monarch in Africa. The protesters were unfazed by bullets, batons and tear gas used by security forces to enforce the ban on the continuing pro-democracy protests.
Several protesters were injured in the police action. A father rescuing his child, who had collapsed after inhaling 
tear gas, was allegedly shot in the back on Friday 25 June when the police attacked residents of Msunduza township as they were marching to deliver a petition to the member of parliament from Mbabane East.

Mcolisi Ngcamphalala, the deputy general secretary of the Communist Party of Swaziland (CPS), was stopped on his way to the march at a roadblock set up by the police. On identifying him, two police officers in plain clothes reportedly seized him and forced him out of the car, ostensibly because he had taken pictures.
"I was kicked all over the body, held by my genitals and bundled into a police van to Siphofaneni police station," Ngcamphalala said. He was allegedly tortured for two hours while being interrogated at the station about the role of the CPS in the protest movement, among other other things.
Struggle for democracy:
In Swaziland, members of parliament are directly appointed by the king for two-thirds of the seats in the upper house and about 12% of those in the lower house. For the remaining seats, only those approved by the chiefs, who exercise power on behalf of the monarch in their respective chiefdoms, can contest the elections as individuals and not as representatives of political parties. Political parties have been banned by the monarchy since 1973.
The application of the law, which automatically criminalises individuals for holding membership of banned parties, has been relaxed since the 2000s in order to avoid criticism from Western powers because Mswati greatly values relations with these countries. However, parties have no space in parliamentary politics in the country.
In such a toothless parliament, which can be dissolved at the will of the king, Simelane has emerged as one of the very few pro-democracy voices. He did not hesitate to meet his constituents when they marched to deliver the petition. However, attempts by the police to stop the protesters escalated the situation into a riot.

Unfortunately there aren't a lot of Safrican articles criticizing the Swazi clampdown of protestors pre-Democratization of Safrica in 1993-1994, because the Union/Apartheid government in turn clamped down on any media/journ*lism going against the Apartheid order, and Swaziland was one of the few neutral states actually working with the White regime, and opposing the activity of the ANC underground. MBABANE: King Mswati who rules eSwatini as an absolute Monarch is now appealing for more donations from the international community to mitigate the escalating COVID-19, few months after splashing about R1 Billion buying Rolls Royce and a fleet of BMWs to be used by his family.
On or around May 2020, King Mswati, through Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini appealed to the United Nations for financial support saying the COVID-19 crisis came at the time when the country was fighting HIV, malaria and TB.
But it later emerged that even though the King was appealing for donations, over R500 Million donated by various companies, UN agencies and other international partners to the National Disaster Management Agency(NDMA) under the Deputy Prime Minister's Office was marred by allegations of corruption, as a result, the citizens are struggling to get food parcels and COVID-19 grants.
Our investigation has uncovered that other COVID 19 protective equipment donated by various companies and agencies meant for hospitals are diverted by the Ministers to be used at the palaces while government struggles to fund the fight against the virus from public coffers.
As a result political parties and trade union leaders came hard on the government demanding evidence that the R24 Billion budget announced by Finance Minister Neal Rijkenberg was used to fight the COVID-19.

He said the money came through the royal budget approved by Parliament and supplemented through the sale of old cars belonging to royalty, however, no public auction was ever conducted by royalty for the sale of the vehicles.
Eugene Dube, a respected eSwatini journ*list who interviewed the King's Office CEO when the vehicles arrived in the country warned the United Nations and international community at large to refrain from funding King Mswati's government saying the regime does not embrace transparency and accountability hence the funding ends up benefiting only the royal family.

Here's a news report the Swazi media seem to have missed. On Friday (31 August 2007) Forbes.com reported that Swaziland King Mswati III was the richest monarch in all of sub-Saharan Africa. Forbes estimates his net worth to be 200 million US dollars (one billion four hundred thousand Swazi emalangeni). 
What Forbes did not report was that about 70 per cent of the Swazi population of 1.1 million people live in poverty 
with an income less than one US dollar (seven emalengeni) per day. More than half the population is presently receiving food aid from overseas' donors following the failure of crops in the kingdom due to drought. In July UN agencies appealed for 18 million US dollars to help Swaziland, but so far only 3.1 million has been forthcoming, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Swaziland's King Mswati III ascended to the throne 25 years ago but he has little to celebrate during his silver jubilee.
An absolute monarch who rules over 1.2 million people, his government is in financial ruin, running out of cash for salaries, health care and fuel.
"My wife works at the university. Last month they got paid late. And they don't know what will happen when it's pay day again," Sikelela Dlamini, the co-ordinator of the opposition Swaziland United Democratic Front (SUDF), told the BBC.
"In the health sector, it's worse. Some people got only half their salaries. There is no money - only panic," he says.
The crisis has been caused by profligate spending - on the royal family of 13 wives, as well as unbudgeted wage increases - and a sharp decline in income because of the global economic crisis and new trade rules in the region, analysts say.
Patient care is at risk, in a country with one of the world's highest rates of HIV/Aids infection. 
According to a report in the privately owned Times of Swaziland newspaper, MP Joseph Madonsela told parliament recently that state hospitals would run out of anti-retroviral drugs within two months.

Mr Dlamini says the government - which did not respond to BBC requests for an an interview - is facing a cash-flow crisis on other fronts as well.
"You will see cars parked. There is no fuel; no money," he says.
An analyst with South Africa's Institute for International Affairs, Catherine Grant-Makokera, points out that companies which supply the government with goods and services are not being paid either.
"Even printers haven't been paid," she says.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF), which sent a team to Swaziland in May to assess the situation, says Swaziland faces a "serious liquidity crisis", and needs to curb expenditure.

The IMF also cited a 4.5% unbudgeted wage increase for civil servants and politicians last year, as well as overspending on "goods and services - notably defence", as other reasons for the financial hole.
"Swaziland is not going to fight a war anytime soon so why this expenditure? It is typical of a dictatorship," he says.

"The king has 13 wives, many children and many more servants. They take a huge chunk of the budget," Mr Dlamini says.
Ms Grant-Makokera believes the monarch may have hindered the government's efforts to resolve the financial crisis.
"But there now seems to be an acknowledgement [by the king] of the need to make adjustments. He has cancelled his silver jubilee celebrations," Ms Grant-Makokera says.
Swaziland has also asked South Africa for a reported bailout of about $1.4m after the African Development Bank turned down its plea for help.

A mother's lawsuit to prevent King Mswati III from marrying her daughter has infuriated the royal family and put it on a collision 
course with Swaziland's judiciary.
"This is a national crisis," said Jan Sithole, secretary-general of the Swaziland Federation of Trade Unions.
But the royal family sees it as a simple case of an impertinent woman with no respect for tradition in a nation where the king is above the law.
"We have traditional forums where such issues should be addressed and we are surprised this woman decided to go to court," said Malamlela Magagula, a royal adviser. "The (king) wondered whether (the) mother was really a Swazi citizen or not."

The conflict began after Mswati's aides picked three women he spotted at the annual reed dance festival and took them to secret locations to become his newest wives.
Though many consider it an honor to have a child chosen to be a royal bride, Lindiwe Dlamini was 
horrified that her 18-year-old daughter Zena Zoraya Mahlangu was taken and decided to sue.
Trade unionists, opposition groups, civic officials, lawyers and ordinary Swazis condemned the royal family's actions.
"Their conduct blatantly undermines the independence of the judiciary and directly interferes with the smooth administration of justice and the rule of law," the Law Society of Swaziland said.
Rights activists have condemned the king's policy of taking brides without asking the women's permission or talking to their families.
"Such a practice, Your Majesty, is degrading, dehumanizing and traumatic to the dignity and person of women folk," Vulindlela Msibi, president of the Human Rights Association of Swaziland, wrote in a letter to Mswati.

King Mswati of Swaziland has chosen a teenager to be his 13th wife. Phindile Nkambule, 17, was revealed to the public when she took part in a traditional Reed Dance ceremony, in which girls perform before the king.
The announcement comes just weeks after Mswati III ended an official ban on s*x for women under 18. The ban was aimed at curbing the spread of HIV/Aids.
She is reported to have caught the king's eye during the main annual Reed Dance in late August, when tens of thousands of bare-breasted 
girls took part in a traditional rite of Spring.
Ms Nkambule is younger than the king's first daughter, Princess Sikhanyiso, who turned 18 this month. She will now wear royal loin cloths when she appears in public and has dropped out of school in order to be groomed as the monarch's wife. 
Unpopular ban:
Days earlier, the king had rescinded a ban on sexual relations for girls younger than 18. The ban was started by the king in 2001 to fight Aids in a country where some 40% of the population is HIV positive. But the move had been unpopular with Swazi youths and its implementation had sparked controversy. 
Just two months after imposing the ban, the king fined himself a cow for breaking it by taking a 17-year-old girl as his ninth wife. The Swazi monarch married his 12th wife, aged 18, in June.
Some Swazis are critical of King Mswati - an absolute monarch whose lavish lifestyle and many wives contrast with the poverty of many of his subjects.

An actual case of REAL kidnapping took place way back in 2002, when "an 18-year-old high school student, disappeared from her school in October 2002. Her mother, Lindiwe Dlamini, learned that her daughter had been taken by two men, Qethuka Sgombeni Dlamini and Tulujani Sikhondze, and she reported the matter to the police. Some time later, she was told that her daughter was at Ludzidzini Royal Village and was being prepared to be the next wife of the king."
"The matter went to the High Court, but Swaziland's Attorney-General Phesheya Dlamini intervened. She has since had two children, and formally became the king's wife in 2010."

Medical people had to go to the king and explain to him that's not just how the virus spreads! For those of you who do not know how aids is spread.
You can get aids via s*x, blood transfusions/contaminations, or literally be born with it, if your mother had AIDS, as the child was connected via the navel tube and blood. So the idea of eugenics for virus victims wasn't as completely batshit.
However, once medical personnel explained the many other ways in which AIDS could be transferred via contact or s*x, the talks about sterilization fell through pretty quick.
HOWEVER, it is a common held belief/conspiracy that our dipshit King Mswati had discovered that he HIMSELF had contracted AIDS from the many liaisons and sexcapades over the years
