According to how far along my mom's conditon was, she contracted it sometime between my birth and after my brother's birth. Neither me nor my brother have it, so it is most likely my mom contracted HIV after my brother was born. Because they were having unprotected s*x to have children, my father likely contracted HIV close to when I or my brother was born, but we can never know for sure. He served in the Navy in California. It was not common practice at this time to test heterosexual, non-drug using, non-hemaphiliacs at this time, so my parents went unnoticed until my dad became sick.

My dad became sick very suddenly. He started being extremely fatigued and losing his appetite. He was unable to work and would collapse from exhaustion at home. He was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with AIDS.

In the hospital, he caught the common flu and died from a blood clot related to his AIDS diagnosis. My mom is still alive and HIV positive. She is doing well.

18-year-old Andrea Ye, who authorities say identifies as Alex Ye, was arrested by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) on April 17. The arrest followed weeks of joint investigation by MCPD and the FBI Baltimore Field Office into Ye, who attends Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) virtually.

In the "manifesto," Ye strategized how to carry out shootings at MCPS's Thomas S. Wootton High School and Lakewood Elementary School, according to authorities. Excerpts from some writings included in charging documents show the student also researched other school shootings, including those at Columbine High School in Colorado and The Covenant School in Nashville.

"The shooter was also trans. His name was Aidan [sic] Hale, though the news keep calling him Audrey," Ye allegedly wrote of the Covenant shooter. "Makes me want to change my name legally before I commit a shooting to make sure the news doesn't misgender me."

28-year-old Audrey Hale, who allegedly was transgender and went by Aiden, killed six people after breaking into the Christian elementary school last March. Three of the individuals were students at the school, which officials say Hale previously attended.

"He was suicidal before the shooting. Just like me," Ye allegedly wrote. "He, too, wanted to kill little kids. A rush of adrenaline fills my body. He's so relatable."

It would seem easily agreeable, the justice argued, that a “stable, democratic society” required a defeated candidate to leave office peacefully if he lost an election.

“Even a close one,” Alito said. “Even a hotly contested one.”

Dreeben easily agreed but when Alito asked what may change if that same outgoing incumbent realized he couldn't head off into “peaceful retirement” after a defeat but “may be criminally prosecuted by a bitter political opponent,” would that not lead the country into a destructive cycle of destabilizing democracy, too?

For the special counsel's attorney, the reasoning was “exactly the opposite.”

Mechanisms already exist to contest elections that are both legal and far more appropriate. Dreeben took the window to remind the court that Trump lost every lawsuit he raised to challenge the 2020 election, save for one and that outcome wasn't “determinative,” he said.

Alito's argument appeared to strike a solemn but dissonant chord in Justice Sonia Sotomayor after the back-and-forth with Dreeben.

Turning to Dreeben, the justice asked if the “stable democracy society” required the “good faith of its public officials” and that “good faith” would assume those officials would loyally follow the laws of the United States.

“Correct,” Dreeben said.

But putting that ideal situation aside for a moment and considering the real world, Sotomayor remarked that “there is no fail-safe system of government.”

“Meaning, we have a judicial system that has layers and layers and layers of protection for accused defendants in the hopes that the innocent will go free,” she said. “We fail routinely.”

But we succeed, more often than not, in the vast majority of cases and the innocent do go free. Sometimes they don't and we have some post-conviction remedies for that. But we still fail, and we've executed innocent people.

Trump faces four felony charges in Washington, D.C., connected to his alleged effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
