I'm convinced that rdrama has shit taste. Try to prove me wrong - Planescape: Torment
This week's entry will be Planescape: Torment
A CRPG set in the Dungeons & Dragons setting of Planescape in which The Nameless One, an immortal amnesiac, sets off on a quest across the infinite Planes and gathers a party of conflicted companions to find out who he is and reclaim his mortality. Throughout it, he faces the consequences of the horrors he committed in his past lives and tries to find the root of all the torment plaguing his companions and the Planes.

It's good? Was browsing through the weekly Steam sales just now and it looks promising but I can't quite figure out how it plays. Kind of an RTS, kind of a Commandos game, and kind of a decision/management game like This War of Mine?

Basically yeah. The setting is really cool, and the story so far is decent. There's an overworld where you are on the train and doing crew management, sending out squads to different points of interest for supplies, repairing and upgrading the train etc. On that same overworld you control the trains speed and it's resource use, you'll also have events that have you make choices and side missions that pop. You visit towns and can barter, buy new train cars, weapons, ammo and so on. This is the strongest part of the game imo.
Then there are the combat missions. Side missions can be combat missions and each act of the map ends with a combat mission. This is the weakest part of the game. The combat is fine; it's essentially company of heroes 2 combat. The scale is very small with you having like ten individuals guys that can do different things. You have a main objective, size objectives and can scavenge the map for resources. The combat is just too rts like for the number of guys. I don't for the life of me understand why they didn't do Xcom style turn based as opposed to CoH2 but real time with pause around WWI soldiers.
I don't know if I would bother with it if I didn't like the setting a lot. Maybe the choices get harder but at least where I am I've never felt very pressed on decisions or resources like I did in This war of Mine. I think I'm in early act 3 ATM.
