Game to Discuss?
Being that there's no FOTW to discuss, let's go back to the "classics," insofar as "classic" means Heroes of the Storm - Blizzard's late entry into the ASSFAGGOTS MOBA genre, full of fanservice, designed to turn goodwill and nostalgia into sweet cash.

HOTS was genuinely good, got rid of all the lame sweaty laning shit and let you get to the actual fun part (clicking on the enemy bad guy while dodging circles in the ground).
Too bad blizzard is incapable of not fricking up anything.

There was Evercore Heroes in development by a bunch of ex-LoL devs as just that, but the alpha test was rocky and instead of doubling down on refining the formula, they killed the idea and pivoted to be more like some sort of Diablo clone.

Truthfully, I rather enjoyed this game, despite the single other blizz game I've played being overwatch. It did a lot of interesting stuff, but its aggressive monetization meant that once my friend
stopped playing it, I did as well. I wasn't as bothered as most people by the shared resources, and I wish more had survived its burning corpse besides the talents which were added to DOTA.

It was nice change of style for a MOBA, for a while it felt far more casual, but not in the pleb way, the its friday lets unwind way. Some of the maps were doggshit and not fun after a while, but I enjoyed it until they really r*ped its corpse.

HOTS was fine and enjoyable with the classic heroes and such, it almost made me feel like I was replaying the WC3 version. But then it got ruined when they introduced the Overwatch heroes where a lot of their functions were run and gun that a lot of the current and old heroes did not have that capacity to deal with until each got their own revisions in some way (if they even did).
I did like that most matches are 20something minutes. Everyone gains exp evenly so its not like you needed a sweaty jungler or laners or what have you that LoL needs. If you're struggling to push you can use map objectives to win or at least tip the scales. It added choices on what you wanted to do to contribute to the fight and I liked that.
But as usual Blizzard fricks it up.
I also miss being able to buy a skin for like 2$ directly but now you have to buy the gem pack and basically its now 9$ skins +. Fricking lame.

Played it a bit. It's a pretty bad MOBA imo.
A lot of games revolve around doing objectives and watching enemy base get destroyed. There's no strategy beyond "go to objectives and kill target mobs first"

what's even the point of doing the cinematic letterboxing if it still gives you commands.
That, too. Everytime SOMETHING happens in a cinematic, like grabbing someone as they fall, you basically sit there and wait to see what button the developer wanted you to press.
Is it gonna be Hold A? Rapid-press A? Both shoulder buttons? Wiggle the joystick back and forth?
Good thing it's a tiny indicator down in the corner with no immediate indication if it's a press-once, press-repeatedly, or press-and-hold.

For what I've been playing lately, it's mostly been minecraft. M$ is a garbage dev, and they've totally failed to improve the game in any meaningful way, but it's hard to frick it up when the core product is so good. Also been playing Civ 6, it's not as good as V, and I still haven't really figured out how to deal with the cities, but I digress. Also more Vicky III. FYI
@Losercel I did update the post including all the <details>, so you should be good to work off of this if you make next week's post.

I don't like the new enormous caves, which is ironic, as I was one of many asking for a Cave Update back in 2012/13. I have spent so much time trudging through the tight and claustrophobic caves of older versions, that they became synonymous with the game in my mind. Now all of the expansive caves feel too big and out of place. I wouldn't mind if they were a rare occurrence, which would be pretty cool, but any natural cave system I find eventually leads into a giant space, which would require a stack of torches to light and as soon as I finish cleaning out the resources I take a peek down a tunnel and find an even larger space. It just gets annoying and loses its charm. It's gotten so bad with my Minecraft boomerism, that after trying out the new versions I just immediately retreat back to 1.5 and somehow keep having fun playing it. It's like some nostalgia-induced paralysis I have with this game.

I like the caves tbh, just wish there was more to them. The real problem I have is how content light every update is. Like they added copper ~3 updates ago, and only now are we getting some more decorative blocks to use with it, which is nice, cause there's way too much of it to use for anything else. Also the illager patrols tilt me to no end.

It takes some getting used to, but you generally just have to place cities farther apart and plan ahead where districts and wonders are gonna go.
Unless you meant attacking, then the rule is to try to bleed the AI out of units away from city defenses then move in to take it. tbh it's been so long since I've played Civ V that I forget what the combat really feels like there.

Yeah really the building side of things is my issue. Like I don't know how important adjacency bonuses are for example, and the way siege units were changed to be supporting units doesn't make much sense to me.

Siege units, like battering ram, lets you bypass walls, so the defense is much lower. When they get some tech for bigger walls, battering ram becomes obsolete, so you need to use the siege tower to bypass the walls. You can still build trebuchets and whatever to bombard cities and units.
If you got 2 districts next to each other, and place a third to "connect" them, they each get +1 or +2 adjacency bonus. It really builds over time. Trying pairing Dams with Workshops too, since it gives them +2 production. If you got a dam next to some strategic resource like iron, it should yield +3 or +4 adjacency bonus.
Adjacency bonuses will make or break you (well, it's AI, so it'll just take longer to kill them all). Go for minimum +3 to +4, such as library/research district placed among a bunch of mountains. You can then use those policy cards that give you a +50% bonus for all cities that have +4 adjacency bonus for specific districts. It's nice to activate those cards when you want to crank out an army, upgrade it, or push out a bunch of buildings.

No email address required.
On whatever's the highest setting. Deity, right? @Ubie is generally gunning for research and production, with finance as a close second. It depends on the nearby resources and what's happening at that time. Technically, @Ubie's six main cities will "specialize," but they all have military districts, with the workshop, and either research or finance. @Ubie ignore faith, and culture @Ubie usually grab when taking @Ubie's 3rd or 4th civ.
@Ubie do this so that all six cities can crank out a larger army at the same time. It's weird not having a military district for this kind of city, but it makes sense for crappy cities on the fringe.
Maybe that's "min-max'ing," but @Ubie haven't read a strategy guide on Civ since the second one. People are dumb and overcomplicate things.

The adjacency bonus things are just experience. Mountains are good for holy sites and campuses. If you have any coastal reefs, they're really good for campuses - each one is +2, so if there's two next to each other along the coast you can get +4 from those alone.
Even though harbors grant landlocked cities access to water, you normally want to build along the coast anyways, because IIRC you get +2 housing from the harbor if it's next to your city. Maybe it's +2 from a lighthouse instead, either way basically the same.
The best use cases for adjacency bonuses are (IMO):
harbors: seaports give production equal to adjacency, and there's a policy card that doubles it, so if you start with +5 bonus on a harbor now it's giving +10 production, like a super factory
holy sites: the Work Ethic belief gives production equal to adjacency, and there's a policy card that doubles it as well, so if you can pair it with high-adjacency stuff (ie tundras with Dance of the Aurora pantheon), you can turn your holy sites into factories, and you don't even need to build any buildings in them for this
"Siege units" are like catapults and stuff, not support units. They're basically just archers (ranged units) except they get +power against cities/districts and -power against units. (Archers get the opposite - don't try assaulting a city with crossbowmen, they get like -17 power for attacking the fortification.) The later ones can't move and attack in most cases (there's a promotion to remove this).
If you mean stuff like siege towers, those supporting units can frankly be ignored for the most part unless you're building a strategy around them. If you're busting down city walls with catapults you don't need them. They're mostly useful if your civ has something like an OP special melee unit and you want to build your whole army around it rather than having a standard siege-based army. An exception to this are the mid-/late-game observation balloon and drone support units, they give +1 range to siege units which as you can imagine is really good (I think they might give indirect fire as well, I forget). I rarely use any other support units, they're just not that good and most of the bonuses to building/purchasing combat units doesn't apply to them which sucks.

Ah. So can you take cities earlier in the game (ie ancient era)? Or do you need to wait for medieval for city conquering?
Jump in the discussion.
No email address required.
Early game you can kind of rush them. It's tricky on higher difficulties because the AI gets a decent head start. They're also not dumb - if you start being aggressive they pretty rapidly build walls, and when walls are completed the city instantly gets the full effect of walls so if they finish mid-conquering it's annoying. So you have to really commit to it, or just get lucky (special units etc).
Mid game you can pick off frontier cities without walls pretty easily. Walls cannot be purchased with gold so it's always going to take a bit of time to build them, even if you rush them (which usually isn't advisable, unless you're doing something cheeky like building a forward city right up the AI's butt to bait it). Note: there IS a city state that lets you purchase city center improvements with faith, you can use that to purchase walls with faith, which is actually absurdly OP and pairs excellently with the Monarchy gov.
Late game all cities get "urban defenses" which basically means all cities have walls as soon as they're built (existing cities get them too). You can still destroy the walls w/ siege units like normal. Usually by this point you'd have large enough armies that some city defenses won't stop you.

Finished:
Tower of Time: Story and ending was surprisingly well done, combat was fun at first but became annoying. Thank god you can fast forward battles. Itemization is bad imo as the lower levels don't drop anything good. Decent game I'd say, 6/10.
Shadowrun: Dragonfall: The narrative was good despite the plot being whatever but I didn't like the slow turn-based gameplay where fights take forever. Also, hacking sucked. Ehhh I'd also give it a 6 I guess.
Playing:
Tyranny (7 Hours): Good but seems unfinished. Combat is awful. Feels like a VN. I love the premise of this game. Might replay with another faction. Will finish this week.
DMC3 (2 Hours): It is better than DMC1 and DMC2 (lol). I am in Mission 8 currently, just after beating Virgil for the first time. However, the fight against the brother demons or whatever tilted the frick out of me. I had to cheese it and I am not proud.
Tactics Ogre (11 Hours): I play one stage before I go to bed and its gameplay puts me to sleep. I like the story but so far this game is just selecting unit, attack on enemy and heal when low. I have recently unlocked new classes that seem fun so I will try them out.
After that I have Catherine in my queue. I got Tales of Vesperia and NieR: Replicant during the sale so my backlog is now 7 games. It is so over. Thanks for making this thread, king.n

How do you get into this? Not being able to select how I'm going to attack in battle is jarring to me (I've played all the fire emblems, tactics/tactics advanced and some general knock offs of those). I played the introduction on the demo and then stopped.
The mage girl in the beginning has ridiculous knockers.

Well, I'm not really opposed to the idea of seeing them duking it out on their own.
You can somewhat influence how each one of your units act by changing their tactics. With a good composition and good tactic optimization, your damage output can increase greatly even without switching your gear.
I am still pretty bad at doing it, but experimenting the settings is pretty fun in itself.

Getting back into Deep Rock Galactic, wasn't playing much because I had no one to play it with. Now that I do I'm having a blast, this game needs a good group using voice chat to have fun, but if you do it's awesome.
Also getting into the Sims 4, actually having fun, but I'll never pay for any DLC. Hoping at least one of the competitors doesn't suck, because I can see plenty of room for improvement that Sims hasn't capitalized on.

Trying to get all of the achievements for Skyrim, so I can truly call myself Todd's strongest soldier. Chose to also do it in survival mode just to make sure I am penitent by the end. I withstood 100 in-game days before my character achieved CHIM, used the restoration glitch to break the balance and turned off the survival mode. I suffered far longer with it than I believe any original Skyrim dev has, if they ever turned it on during their latest playthroughs. The lack of reasonable travel options and the horrible climate mode have absolutely broken me. I will not waste fire salts to make soups to warm myself up during the 5 times I have to go on a mountain peak for a quest.
I never finished Dawnguard, because vampires in Elder Scrolls are not interesting enough to warrant a whole story and I never felt anything towards Serana, outside of annoyance. Always dropped it after the Soul Cairn, so now I am closing that chink in my armour as a bethesdrone. Also, have to kill a legendary dragon and make something out of stalhrim. Never did Oblivion Walker because Erandur is one of the few interesting companions you get in the game, so I never killed him before. Seems like I always did the right thing, as the Skull of Corruption is terrible, just like any other staff in Skyrim.

They really botched the staves in Skyrim, which is a huge shame.
There is a mod where you can do Dawnguard content without the story. You can even kill Serana, if you are into that.

I finished Dredge and now I'm not playing anything.
I wanna play a game that's something like:
roguelike
construction/factory simulation
autism
any ideas?

Modded MC in hardcore if you're looking for all of that. If you can relax the roguelike requirement (which doesn't really work well with the factory side of things) there's the usual stuff: Factorio, Dyson Sphere Program etc. If you've played those, I'd recommend Factory Town which does some very interesting things, where the factory building is incorporated into a (simplified) city builder. If you can skip the factory building side of things, I'd suggest Against the Storm, which meets pretty much all your requirements, though it doesn't involve the kinds of logistical thinking entailed by Factoriolikes.

I'm finishing up Dredge now too
I got it on release but had to stop playing to focus on school. God it's a great game. This game isn't a factory game but if you like Dredge I highly recommend it:
I've only played about 5 hours so far but it's very fun and has a great gameplay loop

Question regarding Planescape: Torment. Should I play the original, or Enhanced Edition? Did they
changed the game for modern audiences
or is it untouched by soylibs?
I know this dev added
shit to a universe where changing s*x is as easy as wearing a magical belt, so I'm very suspicious of them.

Jedi fallen order. It's okay. Don't really like souls likes but this isnt too egregious for that style.
Was playing mad max but got a glitch where it wouldn't count some completion of an objective like 30 hours in
Also borderlands 2 and helldivers 2 for online gaming.

Finally got around to playing Breath of the Wild since I am a boomer g*mer years behind the times
It's pretty good but imo it's a bit overhyped if people are calling it the greatest of all time. Story is extremely bare bones, no real dungeons and what you do have is flavorless, very limited enemy selection, and the weather is crap. Don't care for the durability system but I get what they were going for there. I will say the exploration is fantastic though, frequently have found myself roaming for hours. The shrine puzzles are also cool but I wish they were in real dungeons, would be more memorable.

Pretty much just Balatro, a bit of Tekken, and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
Third Strike is so dang fun that I'm picking it up as a side-game (was originally only playing to practice for THE /h/Kappa TOURNEY THIS WEEKEND WHICH EVERYONE SHOULD SIGN UP FOR)

Been playing Baldur's Gate 2 and Granblue Fantasy Versus. BG2 is one of the few boomer games that really is as good as people remember it being. Granblue Fantasy is sort of a baby fighting game but it's decent enough for what it is. It's not the second coming of Super Turbo that it's promised to be but it heavily rewards strong fundamentals which most modern FGs seem to actively avoid doing.

I am still playing the frick out of Helldivers 2 with the wife. Its been mad fun still and we're levelling up and starting to hit up bot missions which felt way more fun than the bug missions. Honestly felt like I was playing SW Battlefield or some shit.
On my own time I've been replaying Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of Forbidden Gods during work hours.
Lots of shadows.

beat pokemon y, pretty much the best game in terms of variety and the story was solid. WAY too easy, but I enjoyed catching everything and constantly finding new stuff instead of the same 5 or 6 mons every route. ended up finding a shiny venopede and dragalge, the later of which made it on my final team. always felt like I had options with what to include in my party rather than required to have one specific pokemon or the other due to limited types. would be nice to be able to get volcanion and diance, but oh well. going to rush through OR since i already have 90% of everyone in it and I caught a level 45 swablu with perfect ivs and hidden ability, so yeah
