Last week's game: Dragon Age Origins
Final Score: (10*3+9*5+8*18+7*5+6*8+5*2+4*1+3*1+2*1+1*2)/(3+5+18+8+2+1+1+1+1+2) = 7.69
Because @RWBYGayPride didn't bother to calculate the scores for the games that have been posted since my last thread, I've included the calculations for their scores below.
Warthunder: (10*1+9*0+8*0+7*7+6*2+5*2+4*3+3*1+2*1+1*10)/(1+0+0+7+2+2+3+1+1+10) = 3.63
Crusader Kings 3: (10*1+9*2+8*9+7*15+6*5+5*1+4*0+3*0+2*0+1*3)/(1+2+9+15+5+1+0+0+0+3) = 6.75

Game to Discuss?
This week, let's discuss Halo Your roll (1-3): 1 Please give your r-slurred fanboy cope about why this game was good, how Bungie isn't a trash developer, why 343 ruined the franchise etc etc etc... below in the pinned comment.

Idk Halo always felt kinda mid to me.
Yay SciFi FPS #5982
The only reason people remember Halo is because it was the only playable shooter on Xbox.

Bungie figured out the formula for making a good FPS you could play with a controller. Everything before handled it poorly, everything after at least took a couple of things from it. I liked the world and the lore, which used to be another of Bungie's strong suits. It doesn't hold up as well as one would hope though, and 343 have done their best to piss on its legacy.

That, slower enemies, less insane weapon loadouts. Weapon switching a huge arsenal with a d-pad is a pain in the butt.

343 hasn't pissed on their legacy. Honestly the biggest issue I have with them is that they didn't get that coop and forge were crucial parts of the already aging formula. But idgaf about the story or lore in these games, I never played the campaigns alone until I tried infinite's for like 2 hours.
Halo 4 and infinite really aren't that much worse than Reach. All of them just made me want to go back to Halo 3. 343 gets shit on for being unable to do the same thing Bungie knew they couldn't do: follow up and build on halo 3. If they'd have kept the IP their next game would've still been Destiny but using the Halo IP.

Classic game. I always wanted to replay the opening battle and the Silent Cartographer mission. The developers used creative sci-fi weapons and species to give every enemy an exaggerated, defined feel that you're not going to get in a generic military shooter. It was great having NPC squadmates (and it helps sell the spooky vibes when they dry up).
On the flip side, the copy/paste environments get REALLY old, and I always found it pretty easy to get turned around in certain parts. The Flood also just aren't really fun to fight, though I guess they're supposed to be kind of stressful. Also Cortana isn't hot in this one

I never owned a 360, so I mostly remember 3 as a wacky party game I played at other people's houses.
As annoying as it could be to die to missiles or splattering, it was hilarious to do to other people, and it felt like you could still have fun even if you weren't very good. This is something most shooters of that era got wrong imo

Finally, a game I have played in one of these threads.
It's a good shooter. I played it for the first time two years ago on the second hardest difficulty I think, or the hardest, not sure. Had fun, was challenging but not bullshit (Halo 2 on the other hand...). I would say it holds up still, but it's good. Last level is kind of lame though, despite a good setting.

Great game. Loved it when I first played it on PC in the early 2000s. Then learned about how it was missing tons of things from Xbox version. Glad they added most of it back in the MCC.

The more I think about Halo, the more I realize that people's memories of the game are mostly associated with playing with friends, playing together locally, and not the hare-brained story or the terribly slow controls. On its own, Halo is hardly something worth talking about (especially these days), but those memories might as well last forever. I mean, don't you know someone IRL who still claims to be the best Halo player despite being pisslow? 2001 was a stacked year in hindsight and Halo ultimately owned the casual audience until cod took over. 7/10

Played The Big Catch: the Tacklebox a free 6 hour prequel to the game coming in 2025. Despite being a a free teaser its an easy GOTY contender with tight controls and tricky platforming. Its a 3d platformer for platforming experts which is causing lots of double jump kiddies to b-word and moan about how hard it is since you need to actually think through your movement options rather then having instant momentum resets and hovers. It also has a cool looking protag !furries

Replaying Portal 2. Revolution was good, and it's been so long I forgot how good these games are in general.

Project Zomboid.
It's over Cornette bros.
I had set up base in that factory south of Riverside when I heard some zomboids banging on the gate. I was tired but I didn't want them destorying my purdy metal gate while I was sleeping so I'd figure I could take on the two of them, the problem was there was a third one dressed in black and crawling. Lil' fricker grabbed my ankle while the other one bit me on the arm. I took them out but I was bitten so I had so saw my arm off to prevent zombification. Sawed the ol' arm off and then bled to death.

Encased - Some Russians made a game inspired by Fallout (the real ones, before Bethesda). It's actually really good so far. Interesting setting, good art, good quests. I've heard that they ran out of money and had to release it incomplete so the later parts are rushed, but I've loved what I've seen so far.
Shadow Empire - I'm 80 hours into this game and my bro asks me about some part of the UI and I don't know what he's talking about because I've never even bothered to look at that yet. Very complex but some how it all comes together into a good game.
Space Haven - Kind of like Rimworld and FTL had a baby. It's not great but it's entertaining enough trying to build up my ideal starship.
Troubleshooter - I always play a little of this. Never disappointed.

This week has been cursed for me. I've played almost nothing but Fallout 4 and League
I did restart Factorio, as I'd like to complete the base game before the expansion comes out, but that's only a slight reprieve. I've definitely hit the point of "not fun" in Fallout 4, the only thing getting me through it now is being able to uninstall it once it's complete. There's just so little in terms of things to do which are even slightly interesting. I've run across some cool locations, sure, but they're inevitably occupied with gun toting thugs, and never have anything more interesting going on. I guess I did play some of the Steam Next Fest demos, including Tactical Breach Wizards, which is very exciting. Other demos I tried were rather less interesting. The Metal Slug demo was very beneficial, as it made it clear that it was not the game for me.

After a few playthroughs of this long-butt game, I've accepted that most content is skippable and it's fine to keep pushing forward. You don't need to 100% it, or even try. If you forget where some talisman is you can look it up, but for the most part I think you're just expected to build your character out of whatever cowtools you happened to run into. People complaining about bloat or repeated content are like the "people" who did every shrine in BotW even though they were bored 50 shrines ago. You're not supposed to do all of them!
But there is one problem with this: the bell bearings. If you miss one you could end up with an endless supply of smithing stone 5 but not 4 or whatever.

Yeah, the game is way too long to not be using wikis after the 1st blind playthrough.
Ain't no way I'm doing all those darn caves again that only give you some shitty spirit ashes

Over the past week, I've sunk 50 hours into Sailwind.
It's Euro Truck Simulator with sailboats and instead of GPS, you have to figure out how to use a [Quadrant](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadrant_(instrument). The sailing mechanics are nicely detailed (and you need to run around on your boat and adjust everything manually), the rest of it is still pretty much barebones early access jank but man is it good. Just playing around with different sail plans feels nice.
The moment when you've left port, set up your rigging, the sails catch wind and your ship leans into a good heel as it picks up speed feels nice.
The moment when you can finally make out a little bump on the horizon through your spyglass after spending a couple of IRL hours just on the featureless open sea and you were starting to get worried about fricking up your navigation feels very very nice.
This one's already very good and I'm genuinely excited about its future development.

Very nice. How's the physics simulation?

Everything that affects the boat's handling is good and nicely done. You will feel the difference between carrying a bag of mail vs 4000 lbs of cargo. You will feel the difference between stacking the 4000 lbs of cargo on deck or at the lowest point of the cargo hold. You can be clever, shift heavy cargo on the windward side of your boat as ballast and run a storm with full sails. Then you can go to sleep in your bunk - the simulation keeps running - and get woken up because the winds shifted and you're five seconds away from capsizing.
Everything else, eg manipulating items like pipes and bottles and picking up and placing cargo crates is Unity jank. Serviceable but eeeh.
