This week, let's discuss Stardew Valley, the mediocre indie clone of a mediocre genre. Honestly, I don't get these games. I've even tried some of the Harvest Moons, and one of the Rune Factorys, but it's never struck me as an especially appealing genre. Maybe it's because I've actually had some experience with real farming, and find all the autism in these games to be entirely misdirected. Regardless, lots of :marseyarthoe8:, :marseychonkerfoid:, and :marseyfemboy: seem to find this game to be the best thing since uncut peepee, so I guess there's your audience. I really liked HOI2's combat system of attacking distinct provinces, controlling multiple armies, their attack times, setting feints, scheduling bombing runs to target logistics, units directly, or supply lines, and all that. But it looks like HOI4's combat is more stream-lined (lame). "Go over there through all these provinces and kill things." It seems a lot less complicated.

All that's still in the game, and it's how I play (sp only :marseysteaming:). I like obsessive division level micromanagement

They also wrapped all of it into a zoomie r-slur ADHD brain tool called "battle plans" that you don't have to use at all (except a portion of it is unavoidable for airborne and amphibious operations :marseytabletired2:)

The drag the rainbow colored lines to Moscow shit is probably necessary for MP because those r-slurs play at high speeds. Skill issue - I know, I know.

Also, no it's the opposite. The lines are mostly for single player, rarely used in multiplayer except for the initial front. Also multiplayer is usually played at 2/3 speed lmao, not any higher, unless you are literally playing on like 1 speed with pause :skull:

I suggest you go play HOI3, I think it would fit your playstyle alot.

Ohhhh, makes sense. MP sounds lame. I loved playing as China or Japan, but good lord you'd have to be on your shit maximizing any potential you could to pull it off.

Funniest game was playing as the Guomingdang, taking Japan with a fleet of lucky transport ships (AI had no land forces there, but tons of capital ships god knows where), and then what? I could only crank out '38 destroyers and cruisers while every major power was past '45 models for their naval ships. Then I quit. The game's AI gets aimless after 1945.

It makes sense since there's no way you can build up and dominate the world within 5 years as either country.

HOI4's construction options sounds better since you can produce more resources in a province and so on.

I was playing one time as Japan and nationalized all of China which swamped my "transport capacity" or whatever the logistics units were called, but I had the most advanced rocketry tech in the world. Like 3 years ahead of anyone. I was feeling good, so I declared war on the Soviet Union, made some advances, but they worked me through Sinkiang (that Chinese desert country of 5 IC) because I had no armor and no AT units. I spent zero research and production on them, but my Air Force was glorious.

You play at 2 speed usually, the only difference is that you aren't pausing every 5 seconds. You think having to actually play the game is lame?

Also no, MP is awes9me and actually let's you do more historical and interesting builds since you don't have to carry the entire war yourself 😁 as well as offering an actual challenge compared to singleplayer

AI still stacks armies to infinity in late game. Conquering the world isnt the goal of the game, but if you want to burn 10 hours you can definitely do it by grinding them out of manpower or supplies.

You can't control attack times (they automatically attack less during nights), you still control multiple armies( a lot more than hoi2 actually, lot more variation between divisions), HOI3 had a pretty complex OOB system but they ditched that for HOI4 and went back to the HOI2 system. HOI4 has a much more indepth province map, about 6 times as many provinces as the vanilla HOI2 map. Bombing and supply lines are both in-depth since NSB, all good stuff.

I explained it in a comment I made to Redaktør recently, but hoi4 is essentially made to bridge the gap between hoi2 and hoi3, as a lot of hoi2 players didn't like how complex and micro intensive the hoi3 army system was, while making it smooth to control. HOI4 at release was worse than AoD, but now I would say it's pretty equal if not hoi4 favored,, although hoi4 is more army intensive.

HOI4 is more indepth (in terms of army) than HOI2 but less so than HOI3, more railroaded than HOI2 but less so than HOI3, or at least, the railroad is displayed in such a way it makes the player feel in control.

One of HOI4's big gimmicks is also that you get to design vehicles and ships yourself, as to allow more specialization. It's neat, especially since NSB fixed most of the game's final problems.

However all of this assumed you are playing multiplayer, all hoi games are equally shitty but larpy in single player. Still cool though

6-12 hours, depending on how things go. HOI4 single player takes about the same time as hoi2 because most of the reason behind it taking so long is constant pausing which you can also do in hoi4.

HOI4 is basically you set a line, armies will try to hold that line. You can order them to try charging into the enemy units line. You end up microing a ton trying to exploit the A.I and then encircle them for win.

Nah, that's only in single player lmao. Also, HOI2 was the same way, nothing changed, it's a flaw in the concept of singleplayer HOI because the AI is too r-slurred on both sides so you are forced into a single style of play (inf+arty with CAS and Fighters)

I wouldn't really say that matters, MP is very different experience, you'll only pick up bad habits from trying to play it. I had also not played since NSB (2022) when I started playing multiplayer with these guys at the start of the year lol.
