Game to Discuss?

This week, let's discuss Lobotomy Corporation. The only game made in Korea which isn't a F2P 10k hour+ grinding MMO, it's kinda butt. Sorta a roguelike, though by any real standard it isn't. Discuss below, and vote in the pinned comment.

I thought it was kind of neat, but I felt that the core gameplay was very obtuse, the gameplay loop was just messy and unfocused, like a weird indie drama film. Neat premise and cute art, though.

It's great, not for every body and gets really :marseythinkorino2: tough :marseyklennypunished: later :marseywave2: on but interesting :marseylaying: throughout. Library of Ruina which is its direct sequel :marseythinkorino2: is where :marseydrama: it's at. It's a tough :marseyklennypunished: as nails :marseychudstamp: card battler game and has a really :marseythinkorino2: good story :marseyslime: and great :marseygoodshit: music :marseybongosnoo: and aesthetics. Highly recommend it if you are into card battlers or dystopian worlds. I regularly relisten to its ost and I'm usually not a video :marseycactuar: game music :marseyhearnoevil: type of guy

plays library of runia

:marseytrain:

Also before you play this game, keep in mind that this is a game that requires you to grind books (rng drops) to play later levels. How do you get these books? By grinding earlier levels. Books are rng drops btw. So if you want to progress you need to grind rng items from past levels and when you run out of those, grind even earlier levels. You also need thee books to unlock/upgrade characters, so realistically 99% of the game is grinding.

The combat is nothing special. Think Slay the Spire but there's no card synergies or cool builds. It's really dull and boring. Stagger doesn't add anything. The "element types" are just renamed Pokemon types

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

It's okay to be filtered, you tried your best :#marseycheerup:

Also the card rng thing isn't that bad, I never :marseyitsover: had problems with it and and only had to go back and redo a fight :marseypunching: maybe once or twice. If you're going :marseysal2: for the special :marseychristmastree: outfits only the late game stuff can screw :marseycartman: you over. But I got mine on first :marseywinner: try so skill issue (but I bet you didn't even get that far)

The different :marseyvenn3: card types are useful but they are not the main focus, this isn't slay the spire it's about resource management and long term setup. You can set up good builds with the type if you know what your doing

I don't associate with whatever :marseyjerkoffsmile: community came from it so idk if :#marseytrain: play it

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Yah like LoR is genuinely a bad game. I'm not sure why some people like it so much.

It's not the difficulty that "filtered" me, it's that the combat is really dull and the battles feel all the same as a consequence.

There's no effect cards or skill cards or whatever, just basic attack and block cards with a random buff.

Enemies don't have special skills and bosses aren't anything interesting; so basically you're fighting the same battle 100 times with the same cards against the same enemy archetype.

Steam reviews seem high and it looks like a decent concept but I've got a feeling other disappointed dramatards ITT are probably right about it. Will test it out.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Eh it leans on the poorly designed side.

Yes it's SCP the game, but the gameplay is very tedious and most of the game is "send this person to play with this scp and hope it doesn't get angry and kill everyone", rinse and repeat 300 times.

Heat Signature.

It's indie slop but it's a fun little game which gives you imsim-like freedom to approach each mission however you want

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

holy shit that's one of my favorite games. Have you seen that dev's new game? It's pretty fun as well, at least in the demo, though it doesn't have the rng powered chaos of Heat Signature.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I'm really enjoying Heat Signature but I can't help but wish there was a bigger dev team behind it, because it is fairly limited in its enemy roster and arsenal, and you can really feel it when you play. A lot of the fun comes from the random elements of the encounters and scenarios, so adding more to it would help variety and add to the longevity of the game.

Have you seen that dev's new game?

I have it in my steam wishlist to check upon full release, but I had no idea it was made by the same dev until you pointed it out. Haven't tried the demo but may be inclined to do so now.

If it ends up clicking for you and you stick with it for an ungodly amount of time, you'll still be finding and learning entirely new things well past the 100 hour mark. This was the case way back in 2018 when we had no third person camera, no multiplayer besides vague orbs representing that someone else was in the vicinity, like 20 base parts and you could only build in predetermined flat spots, no character models, and like 5% the content and variety there is now.

Dissenters love to crow that NMS is wide as an ocean deep as a puddle, and while it's not like EVE level complexity (from what I understand about EVE), the systems at play offer a surprising amount of depth but they really are absolutely legion in terms of sheer quantity. Mid- and end-game play you'll always have like 5-10 self-imposed things you want to do or work on and you can just drop whatever you're doing at any time to go do one of those and return at any time back to anything else. I'll never claim that NMS is for everyone, but much of the criticism still leveled at it just comes from people who want it to be like Star Wars: Space Opera Game In Space when it doesn't seek to be that at all. It's very unique in what it is and if it hits right there's absolutely no end to things to do at great length and depth if the systems are engaged with fully.

Still though, even people who do want that Star Wars kind of experience seem to get around 60-80 hours out of their (relatively speaking) brief stint and it's hard to argue with the value especially given that it's 50-60% off for a few weeks every update.

I'd say it's good value, though I can definitely see areas where procedural generation produces a lot of repetition. At the same time there are a lot of features I've barely touched yet.

I do get a bit of a Minecraft vibe there, in that having a bunch of disconnected features creates bloat rather than a comprehensive experience. That said, it feels like segments like freighters or exocraft can be safely ignored without screwing up progression. Appreciate that.

I do wonder what they'll add next. It'd be nice to have planets which aren't just a single, endless biome.

Just hammer away with a reasonably upgraded MT at a patch of trees or rocks and shit. It's hard to get under 900 in one beam if your MT is remotely decent.

Pain in the butt lol. There's an underground fellow on the second planet in the expedition starter system but they're a pain to find. I got one on a dissonant planet somewhat near R3 just by accident. It's not like the absurd corrosive blood requirement we needed to find like 2 expeditions ago. Still a pain but nowhere near as bad.

Kill 4 walkers cheese protip: kill all 5 waves including the walker, enter and exit ship, load save you just created. Wanted level resets and you can fight through another 5 waves. Repeat 3x.

Hardest milestone was the 50 kills in the Minotaur. Its aiming reticule seems to indicate "the shot can go anywhere on screen except in this tiny circle lol gl".

I did it on an airless planet with a combo of sentinels and biological horrors because the sentinels spazzed over me killing the horrors. It was pretty fun even with the ridiculous 10% accuracy cannon. Lots of using sentinel drops to heal though.

I've been mostly playing VR games since I bought a PSVR2.

I like VR, although the headset itself is a bit uncomfortable and makes my eyes sweat when it gets warm.

So far what's been most impressive is Horizon Call of the Mountain with great visuals and the ability to interact with everything. Picking up some panpipes and instinctively holding them up to your virtual mouth and blowing and they work! Incredible.

Also played a kayaking simulator which was impressive although I basically just found a scenic spot and sat and chilled there watching the scenery.

Walking Dead game is fun but too involved whereas I just want to shoot zombies.

Mini Golf good as well.

VR could be the future but the hardware needs to become smaller, more comfortable and somehow needs to bypass you eyes and feed directly to the brain. The lenses and your eyes are the weak point in the interface.

I really wanted to play modded Minecraft with Reika's mods so after searching for a good modpack with all of their mods I gave up and just made one using the mods and configs on their website.

Pretty good so far tbh, really like messing around with gearboxes and torque and shit. Wish I had someone to play modded MC with since all of my friends seem to hate it.

Tranneika made 3 of the most unstable mods of all time and deliberately made them non-compatible with other moda and pack making software which is why they are never included. Both rotarycraft and reactorcraft will double the load time of any pack on their own. Colorcraft or whatever it was called practically refuses to load with any amount of additional mods.

Try out GT6 with IC2C for crops, actual kino, and it has rotation as well 👌

I just spent half an hour getting my shit kicked in by Rellana. That second phase is brutal with her unending attack chains and nuclear damage :marseysweating: but I finally managed a comfortable win. Also, using the Milady light greatsword with Smithscript Dagger offhand combo is some of the most fun I've had in a souls game.

started playing halo infinite again last week and despite the small player base, recently introduced bugs with matchmaking (match composer bullshit) i really, really do think the game is solid. the movement is by far the best in any halo game i've ever played. yeah the drawbacks are there and nothing will ever match peak bungie xbox 360 halo but i do legitimately like the game

Fallout: London which recently came out. I've put about 14 hours into it and so far I am really impressed. The voice actors put in one heck of a performance for being amateurs, and the dialogue is competently written. The only complaint I have so far is that a lot of quests follow the format:

"Ye' I'll 'elp 'u mate, s'long as 'u ge' my X back fro' Billy" and Billy says "Oh ye' righ' mate, I'll 'elp 'u s'long as you do fetch quest 'ore me first"

I finished The Forgotten City, which is a time-loop puzzle game similar to The Outer Wilds. While I enjoyed it, the puzzles were very easy and the ending was kinda r-slurred but otherwise an enjoyable experience.

Currently playing Remnant 2 which looks good, I enjoyed the first game so I'm thinking I'm in for a good time.

Eventually I will get around to the twenty something games and DLC whatnot I bought off the Xbox 360 store before it closes.

Off the top of my head I got Devil May Cry 1-4 plus that one reboot

Several mid budget flight sims

Several Xbox live arcade games

Remember Me

Too Human was free lmao

The first Crackdown for free which I never got around to playing before

Risen 3

Tons of dlc for games I'd never gotten around to before like Mass Effect and Dragon Age

Finished Doom 64 CE, including the Lost Levels. Overall one of the better games of the classic Doom era. Also beat Streets of Rage 4. It went quicker than I thought it would, you could probably do it in 3-4 hours. I'd recommend it if you can find it on sale, but I liked River City Girls more as far as beat em ups go.

Decided to pick up Divinity: Original Sin again and it's a slog, might just drop it. I want to like it but jfc the pacing is so bad.

Not too much activity the past week, mainly because of irl shit...that being said...

  • After some time away, I brushed up on booted on Pizza Tower again. Now, I still haven't gotten far (only 2-3 levels on the first floor), and I had to spend the first half-hour or so getting familiar with the controls again (I forgor), but it's nice! Apart from the obvious graphics and music praise (that's something everybody has already heard before), I'm starting to get the hang of all the running and jumping and wall-crawling and whatnot! Well, at least to the point of getting A-rankings; I do want to see if I could 100% the game - or at least do enough to get the secret/true/good(?) ending, but that's largely dependent on how much the difficulty will ramp up going forward, or if you're able to replay the levels on the same save file once you get to the end. I ain't no kitty though, and I'll try it out whenever I can! :soymario: :marseypizzacharacter:

  • In the wake of the epic chimichanga man's third movie (of which me and my bud went to see this Saturday), I figured that I would also go and get more practice on Mahvel. One big thing is that, after many days of going with Sentinel/Commando/Cable, I decidedly to see if I could do a slight change-up, and eventually (with the help of some quick reading on supercombo.gg), I swapped Commando with Blackheart. And it worked! Even though I still am not too familiar with his moveset/strategy (at least not compared to the two already-existing characters), the amount of zoning/anti-air he has is quite a help! And it has allowed me to beat the game (both on the Dreamcast version, and in the, well, actual arcade version) several times by now! By golly, have things become easy! :marseyrobot: :marsey666black: :marseysoldieramerica:

...a bit too easy, honestly. Maybe I need to start increasing the CPU difficulty - or, better yet, actually battle people on Fightcade,

when I get the chance to. Now that I (finally) got an adapter that can allow my shitbox laptop to connect with an Ethernet cable (after

dealing with many months of an aging Wi-Fi connecting ability that sees rather frequent delays and even pauses), I can now partake in

the fun fun very fun world online kappa! I'll probably do it tonight, or at least within the next few days once I get more freetime...

I mean, a match only takes like 3 mins top, it's not a crazy time commitment :marseyteehee: Anyway, you need to play against other people to actually play fighting games. Practice mode doesn't teach you fundamentals, I would honestly recommend you play something like 3rd strike to get good footsies as in my experience that's usually where anime neighbors be lacking.

Still messing with the Xbox 360 Xenia emulator a lot, but some games not working on it compelled me to dig into the plastic tubs in the basement with all my 360 and PS3 (and PS2) games, and in one of those tubs I know I had a nice complete copy of Rule of Rose, the PS2 game that can sell from $500 to $1200. I'm in the tub where I'm pretty sure that is, and everything is fine at first but the lower I get in the tub, the cases are feeling just a little soft and squishy. The lower I go, the softer and squisher it gets. Noooooo. And then there's Rule of Rose and it's a tiny bit wrinkled on the cover and I start freaking. Thankfully the inside was 100% dry, just the cover artwork got a tiny bit wrinkly. It'll take some value off, but I still estimate I can get 80-90% of top value, it's really not that noticeable. Phew, dodged a bullet there. A good 30 other games got wrecked but they were generally dime a dozen type.

Also played a lot of Minishoot Adventures on Steam. It's like a twin-stick Zelda 1. Quite good but it's starting to get repetitive 6-8 hrs in.

Because it sounds like you live somewhere humid, take your games out of there and make sure none of the games exhibit disc rot. Once they get oxidized, they are basically trash. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_rot

Good looking out, but what it was is in the 6 years we've owned this house we've only gotten water in the basement once that was actually more than just damp concrete/carpet in one corner, this tub was in that corner, and unknown to me it had a crack on the bottom so all the games by that crack got wet and the lingering moisture made some others in the box a little damp. Thought it was OK but should have been extra cautious.

But yeah, my old Sega CD, 3DO, PS1, Gamecube discs... I should check on those for rot.

Logged into my ancient Azur Lane account. There's so much new content I immediately uninstalled. Sold a bit of my cs inventory and cleaned up the second account. Genuinely surprising how much useless shit there was, that's still somehow worth cash. Anyway, I'm thinking of just selling everything outside of my favourite stuff. Dunno, really. We played over the weekend but it was hella boring tbh.

Thanks king for doing these threads.

Azur Lane, that's not a game I've heard of in a long time. Do prefer it to Kancolle tbh, which always struck me as excess autism. CS economy is funny, some of my old cases are close to the value of a key now. This is the first time I've taken it at all seriously in years though, and it's interesting to see how much/how little has changed.

Halo 2. I only played Halo 1 and one campaign of Halo 2 as a child so a while back I got the Collection of 1-4 + Reach and will play a Halo once in a while. Somehow the Halo Collection launcher is 14 GB? The games themselves remain good but the launcher and menus they wrapped them in are inferior and full of G*mer nonsense. Thing that stood out to me: This In Amber Clad is kinda weakshit, huh, it pretty much just drops off Mr. Chief and then everyone gets captured by Covenant or dies to Flood.

Trying Kenshi. So far I have run around mining, run away from bandits, and once when some guys from town came out to whale on bandits I joined in and stole the bandits shoes. We'll see if it can hold my interest as it opens up.

I tried some Lobotomy Corporation before, it did not hold my interest.

Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of Flesh, a point and click adventure game from 1995. It might be the ultimate 90s period piece. It's got FMV sequences, Mortal Kombatish violence, an urban office setting, ironic edgy humor, X-Files-like conspiracies, Jacob's Ladder esque flashbacks, there's bursts of industrial music, Clive Barkerish body horror, there's a techno horror motif going on as well, etc.
