This week, let's discuss Hollow Knight. At one point I'd thought it was a 2D dark souls, but in replaying it (some) this week, it seems like it's actually a more typical metroidvania! Who woulda thought? It's shockingly well put together, especially considering that it's an indie game, with gorgeous art and a decent soundtrack. Enemies are pretty varied. The losing your soul on death mechanic is pretty annoying, and doesn't really make a big difference in how the game works, but there are few other missteps. Discuss below, and vote in the pinned comment.

what's the fricking problem, b-word?

so far I have:

  • replayability hindered by having to unlock movement spells

  • respawning after some bosses is tedious (see above point, dream travel would solve this, no idea why you only get this so late)

  • could've added more spells, but I'm not sure if this would've made a difference to most people

Its weird i got filtered because i was about 99% through the game (non neurodivergent, i aint doing that pantheon o gods shit or w/e) beat grimm, dream zote? Til the lady beetle makes her final diary page, just needed to beat the final boss, but one day i rage quit, found the save file in folders and just completely fricked it, not because of any boss, but at like my 2nd run of arena to farm coins for upgrading the fragile charm thingys. Dunno why, maybe i was just full of raging testosterone that day
