(This is old-ish news, Godot 4.3 came out last Thursday)

Godot Engine, the big-ticket open source project from sunny Argentina :marseyflagargentina: just released Version 4.3, which mainly contains fixes and improvements to current systems. Some changes include:

> :marseyjamming: Some new AudioStreamPlayer resources. These are mainly focused around interactive music, which was doable before with the preexisting audio system, but is made significantly easier with the new stuff

> :marseysphericalcow: 2D physics interpolation. This is a feature that was lost in the transition from 3.5 to 4.0, and was one of the reasons some devs stuck with 3.5 when making games for lower-end devices. It's back now, and is one of the changes this update that should make developing for low-end devices a bit smoother.

> :marseystrut: built-in ufbx importer, so importing 3D files is easier

> :marseycrystal: built-in Direct3D 12. This became possible due to a previously proprietary component of D3D12 getting open-sourced by Microsoft, allowing the Godot devs to directly include it inside the engine

> :flash: Single-threaded web exports. This was on the table for a while, taking a long time because of an audio quality issue.

> :marseypdf: File system can be moved to the bottom of the screen, which is how other game engines usually do it. Also allows you to see file icons a lot easier.

> :box: TileMap system has been reworked, with TileMap layers now each being a separate node instead of all contained in one mega-node. This should make them a whole lot less finnicky to work with

> :parrotcongaparty: Parallax system has been re-reworked, with everything now being in a single Parallax2D node and simpler to use

Not sure what to expect from this, probably just a continuation of current trends. More people moving to it or trying it out for the first time, a few more indie studios switching to it, more Unity :marseyisrael: users sneeding, and more Gen Xers in their midlife crises starting gamedev YouTube channels and trying to make their ultra-realistic MMORPG dream games.

Lastly, to all fellow Chuds, gamedev is an awesome creative hobby and there's never been a better time to get your feet wet with it

Space Station 14. The belated remake to a shitty atmospheric simulator built on a psuedo-robloxian engine back in the nineties.

Since 2019, a swedish man known online as PJB, or Pieter-Jan Briers has been the frontman of the Netrunning Taskforce in charge of building this virtual experience.

At his right hand side is DrSmugleaf(

), loli hentai enthusiast with a F-List covering, much, much more of his interesting preferences, and on his left is Jezithyr "Jesse Rogeau", trans-identified nonbinary furry with a linkedinpage detailing his work on Microsoft's hit game, Minecraft: Adventure Mode: Dungeons, as well as some other minor releases. Together they form the "Space Wizard's Federation" who loom over the fabled 'Mainline Codebase'. However, this peaceful stewardship has met many hardships ; certain rabble-rousers in the community, fellow coders of lesser pedigrees have expressed distate with their dominance of the game's online backbone, and their Twenty-First century moralizing about Ukraine and Gender Ideology, namely because all the loading screen tips as of the time of the post tend to be about freeing palestine and trans rights, rather than anything related to the game proper. Furthermore, they began planting 'spies' in various Space Station 14 servers' Groomercord servers themselves, vigilantly watching for any would-be Space Wizard Dissidents, threatening server hosts with delistification should they falter in ridding their communities of these political enemies. All this vigilance led to the game's actual development suffering. To this day a great variety of systems present in its predecessor, Space Station 13 are absent, half-implemented or slated for a refactor that'll never come. And since the Trio of Archwizards have reserved certain systems for their touch only, seeing any progress on these in mainline seems uncertain, such as a long-awaited medical system revamp that would have finally reimplemented targeted damage, and much more.

It got to the point another group of insane Russian :!marseytrain: s got together and created a fork intended to replace and supercede the mainline, slapping an AGPL license on it and adding a few kitsch features. Nowadays they merely port changes from Mainline over to their codebase.

That said, the Space Wizards remain as strong as ever, getting a trailer for their beloved project into the PC Game Awards show this year, behold:

And to this day, the Wizards hack away at their terminals, injecting estrogen for motivation and drinking soy to refuel their bodies, adding half-baked features and unnecessary 'alien' races to appeal to a fervent furry majority they carefully cultivate, deriding the Space Stationeers of old as chuds and male feminists. Let this be a warning to any who would travel the Seven Galaxies...
