!touhou is a theoretically a game, but it's actually a media universe, and this universe is what most fans are there for. In a sense, Touhou has killed off its author, and the fandom could continue regardless of his existence at this point. Regardless, this is a gaming thread, so please discuss the Touhou games, including the fangames. See the pinned comment below for voting on the official bullet heck games.

The first 5 touhou games were made for the PC-98 and are a bit different. The first game of the "modern" series is Touhou 6. It's the first game with :marseycirno: and is a good introduction story wise. It doesn't run properly on newer versions of windows so you'll have to download the fanpatch. The story isn't that important though and you really can't go wrong with any of them.

Try 8 or 10. 10 has a very generous continue system which is nice since the difficulty takes a significant leap at stage 4. 8 is a smoother difficulty curve and isn't too difficult at its worst. You do have to really read :marseylongpost: into the mechanics of that one though since there's quite a bit going on that's not immediately obvious.

6 is the only modern 2hu game that doesn't let you reach stage 6 if you use continues so people will recommend not starting with it.

I don't know anything about this stuff and skipping cut scenes is my religion, but just looked up "touhou maid" and saw this

As for her age, ZUN directly stated that "she plays the role of a human maid about 10 to 20 years old"[8] and "perhaps she is a character in her early teens[9], and in Perfect Memento in Strict Sense, according to Hieda no Akyuu, "she claims to be in her late teens", but acts with the mannerisms of someone and the level of her ability seems like that of a human that's been living for more than a hundred years. https://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Sakuya_Izayoi

I've played a handful of touhou spinoff games over the last couple of years. Luna Nights is really good, and Touhou Labyrinth 2 is pretty good as well. I played a bit of Soku to prep for the tournament that we ended up cancelling and liked it quite a bit.

I just started playing the touhou shmups last weekend and have been having a pretty good time with them. Over the week I played about 7 hours of Touhou 10 and yesterday I managed to 1cc it for the first time. Have played about an hour of Touhou 6 and Touhou 18 and it seems to me that the games have improved over time, which is nice to see. I'm not really fond of the aesthetic of the series, but Sakuya is a neat character and Wriggle is cute.

Playing factorio for the DLC, Feel like I'm less neurodivergent or more normie than when I beat the original game so it's been slow moving especially since I have to beat the original game before moving onto the DLC content

:#marseyviewerstaretalking:

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

This is the first time I've felt like I'm actually half-way competent at playing the original game.

Even without the DLC there's a lot that they've improved on in this latest version. Like all inserters being able to filter. In the past that was a major annoyance.

I'm just starting to get into the space stuff. Have my own little space station but haven't gone to any other planets yet. So far it's pretty good. Different enough to be interesting while still being the same game we know and love.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

DLC is definitely designed for people who already know the ins and outs of the base game in mind. Some OG techs that are critical for midgame expansion like spidertrons and artillery are locked behind space exploration now, so it can be slow going to get your nauvis production up to snuff if you don't know all the meta strats for the base game (grenade/fish spam, poison and defender capsules).

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

That's fair, I've already beaten the base game twice, it's just such a slog until you get to construction robots. I hate doing the game breaking meta strats and optimizing for extreme efficiency which doesn't help either

Dark Souls 1. This is the first playthrough where I've met Kaathe, destroyed the Guinevere illusion, etc. My pyromancer isn't satisfied with the easy answers from Frampt and co, so she's delving deeper into the hidden lore of her world. :marseydetective:

This optional layer of the story adds a lot to the game, but I think that people who take Kaathe's statements at face value should be humanely euthanized. The game shows us exactly what "Dark" looks like. The Abyss grows to destroy everything, with the remaining once-human creatures killing each other over dwindling scraps of soul. And the Abyss is Kaathe's home base. If this is the "age of humanity," Gwyn was right to fear it, and was selfless in sacrificing himself.

People figure out the human/dark connection and conclude that it must mean darkness is good, when the much more obvious, interesting, and thematically appropriate conclusion is that humanity is fundamentally destructive. :marseyunabomber:

In real life, the "Age of Dark"/"Age of Man" is unchecked ecological destruction, catastrophic climate change, nuclear holocaust, gray goo AI apocalypse, or even just the slow death of meaning. It's a mixture of things that are happening now, and things that could happen if humanity continues with unchecked dominance over nature, unconstrained by our ancient faiths. Sure we may be destroying our world, but at least we cast off all those phony gods' blessings, right? :marseyfedoratip:

This kind of reminds me of how many people regard Satan as a hero in Paradise Lost, simply because he adopts rhetoric about liberty that we humans naturally find relatable. Satan flatters the reader's sensibilities, but when you look past the rhetoric and see what he actually wants, he simply is trying to destroy humanity to spite God. He is our enemy. :marseydevil:

Do not listen to some straggy snake's grand narrative without figuring out who he is and what he's trying to do. He will be happy when the "Age of Dark" begins. You won't. :marseysnek:

!g*mers

Yes the later games show the fading of fire recurs forever, and that natural rebirth from Dark is possible, but that requires meta knowledge and I am interpreting DS1

I like how these r-slurred cute twinks think this while the world has become wealthier, more environmentally safe (in first world countries), and less violent over the past few centuries. How clueless can a neighbor get, !neolibs?

Some people are able to display their intelligence by going on at length on a subject and never actually saying anything. This ability is most common in trades such as politics, public relations, and law. You have impressed me by being able to best them all, while still coming off as an absolute idiot.

Is it any good? I couldn't really get into Elona.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

If you didn't care for Elona, you won't like Elin. They are the same game, essentially. There are a ton of additions and changes, but really it's still the same core game, just polished up and with an entire other game's worth of farm/town/inn management mechanics. Still tons of stat grinding, dungeon running, and no mechanic makes any sense and is never explained at any point.

Playing Oblivion after finishing Morrowind. It definitely improves on some of the Hank found in Morrowind but it regressed in a lot of areas too.

Firstly the map totally feels like a fake plastic mmo world with a layout engineered for convenience not immersion. You get a quest to kill the evil wizard the townsfolk pushed away "as far as they could " and he is 30 seconds of walking away. Somehow in the center of the empire within sight of the capital city all the major roads are lined with goblin camps and haunted elvish ruins like they are Starbucks and Chipotles.

The second issue is the quests which are just too hand holdy. Morrowind was not afraid to leave you lost without an obvious next step. "You're quest, find out what happened to the dwarves ". If that was oblivion you would have a quest marker leading you to the book "What happened to the Dwarves ".

On the other hand no cliff racers 10/10.

I've been playing Elin. Can't really decide on a character though. I keep playing a ways in, get dissatisfied with my build, and then reroll to something I think is better. It's weird because the game is so open ended that it doesn't really matter. I guess I just want to play something I feel satisfied with, but it's not always easy to see how the differences in builds will actually play out as a newbie. Now that I've understood the game's systems pretty well, I think I'm good. We'll see how well a fairy priest goes.

Temptation to reroll has been killing me too. I already rolled a second character about 40 hours in.

I've been playing a bunch of things, mostly testing out different screen record programs and uploading old arcade games to youtube in bitchin' 4K quality.

Steam client recorder: Decent for Steam games but doesn't work well with non-Steam games you add to the client. Also won't work with any games (like older ones) that don't use or play well with the Steam overlay. Needs an on-screen indicator that you're recording.

GeForce Shadowplay: Probably the one I've used the most so far. Has some weird quirks, like when I try to adjust volume during recording and the volume bar pop-up wants to come on the screen, that kills the recording. Maybe a way to fix that. Otherwise good shit in a somewhat minimal package.

Xbox/Windows Game Bar: Seems decent, has a nice on-screen recording indicator with time elapsed, but you can't record in 4K! WHY?! :marseyraging:

OBS: The default choice of most, but it's more than I need since I just want to record gameplay with no voice over and don't stream. Definitely good software, it's just been a little tricky to wade through so far since I don't need most of what it does. Also no on-screen recording indicator! Really, you can do 10,000 things but can't tell me I'm currently recording?

Anyone else do this and have opinions on the software? (besides you longpostbot, you robot twat)

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

How is OBS complicated, its probably one of the most user friendly application not advertised to computer illiterate normies lol

>no on screen recording indicator

Do you not use OBS on a side monitor like most people?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

It's not that OBS is complicated, there's just a lot to pick through when I just wanna choose my output settings, hit a button and go. Adding sources is not something any of the other recorders do, but it is handy. I also started fooling around with it at like 1am last night, 8 drinks in and not having the greatest attention span atm. But it's definitely going to be my main along with Shadowplay.

I don't use dual monitors, but I'm feeling the pull to go back. For years I did two, sometimes three monitors. Then did an ultrawide for a while, which is cool when it works but is mostly just a pain in the butt. About 2 years ago I switched to a 42" OLED LCD TV as a single monitor which has also been hit or miss. Kinda want to go to one horizontal monitor and one vertical.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Yeah OBS is meant to be running on another moniter so you can see what your recording at all times, check you audio channels and know which ones are going though, and make sure you have the correct windows showing up and not ones you don't want the recording streaming.

There may be better options for one monitor, but tbh in the year 2024 every personal desktop should have 2 monitor lmao

After 30 hours in Morrowind I can proudly say that I believe the game is incredibly mid, but still addicting

Most quests and dungeons are pure disappointment, guild questlines barely give the outline of a storyline (even though the general vibe of the quest givers abusing their authority to trick you into doing their shady interests is fun) and the combat is JRPG tier where you and your opponent stand still whacking each other until one stands through a pure statcheck

Still the lore is fun, anything that plays with the Houses' philosophy and the Tribunal stuff (Which was sadly not much) was welcome, the lack of quest markers made some quests feel like treasure hunts (even though most quests take place in towns and those suck), and the promise of finding new cool ways to exploit the game such as spam-selling potions, buying trainers or buffing stats kept me thinking for days on how to best build my guy

Also I loved stumbling across a random temple with a max level sword and casually nuking the game's whole economy

Overall I rate it 7.5/10, 9/10 in a parallel world where shitposts and memes don't spoil most of the twists

Yeah there is a lot wrong with it. The story is the most interesting of the scrolls games but the delivery is bad. I don't really care about vivec so hearing about super good, but I bet Bethesda would rather spend 100% of their time on es6 which surely won't bomb right? :marseycringe:

You need a way to get rid of everything. I ended up starting with a one lane two way bus, and building a looping recycler at the head. I'm going to scale up to trains soon, but I had to go back to Nauvis to get things set up there.

Edit: I'm also working on a way to dump resources from orbit, it seems like you need a lot more water than the planet can provide.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Yeah, I definitely should have set up more recyclers at termination points. The setup I made for building a platform and rocket to get me back to Nauvis was a column of filtered splitters for everything to move them along to where they needed and just adding more buffer chests as I needed. Then I added quality modules to the scrap recyclers. That may have been the breaking point.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

yeah, that's not far off of my setup, I just had a second dedicated trash belt. Quality modules are a good way to frick up your setups, because they demand an ability to deal with every quality tier you've unlocked thus far.

I got Age of Empires 3 definitive edition. The original is better in that there's an incentive to play to get better home city shipments. In the definitive edition, they're all there from the get go, so there isn't an incentive to keep playing. There are a lot of new countries/tribes to play as and now maps. I have an embarrassing amount of hours in it for the amount of time I have had the game. It's basically crack.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Never finished it and I enjoy it well enough. Just hit level 50 and haven't even gotten to Athens questlines yet. Basically conquering the Greek world just before the major plot points kick off. :marsey300:

Beyond that, my VR controllers are about to putter out, so I just ordered a replacement for my previous gen controllers. Honestly the downgrade is sorta welcome because the ones I use now, the Index Controllers, have some design flaws and a shorter than usual usage life. They feel way more delicate than they should.

Been getting back into Crime Boss Rockay City, it's so much fun and it's a real shame that it got such a shitty reception on launch. I didn't play it back then and I don't doubt it was buggy, but I have a feeling Payday fans were eager to shit on it since everyone was still hopeful for Payday 3.

On VR I've been playing Zero Caliber 2. Idk if it's good for a VR war game because I have nothing to compare it to, but I've been having a shit ton of fun in it. Still need to play more of Into The Radius 2, but I only did the tutorial and the first level and it scared my peepee off.

Excited for Stalker 2 this week but my expectations are low. Hopefully it's similar to the first games and didn't take notes from Anomaly and Gamma, I can't stand that chore simulator bullshit and just want a spooky shooter in an interesting setting.
