This week, let's discuss The Stanley Parable. It's one of those games snobs like to point as an example of games as Art, and for good reason, because it plays with the medium in very fun ways. However, it is not clear whether this title counts as a game. Sure, it comes in an executable file, wastes bitcoin mining capacity on :quote: graphics, :quote: and even has at least one story. Despite all this, it is quite devoid of any real gameplay, unless you consider WASD+E to be enough to make a game. Vote below, in the pinned comment.

Mostly arcade shmups. Feeling the pull for something bigger though. Left 4 Dead 1/2 was always a Christmas classic for me, maybe I'll fire those up for some xmas nostalgia like I did with Super Mario World earlier in the week. Also got some bigger ones in the "Gabe needs a 7th yacht" sale this week: Red Dead 1, Drova, WH Space Marine 2, Wo Long, Homeworld 3, and a bunch of those recent Koei hack & slash games. Maybe I'll start one of those.

Does anyone own Witchfire? Trying to talk myself either into it or out of it. Game looks cool as shit but it's $40, $36 on sale, with no discount despite it being in early access for another year. But it's got a shitload of positive reviews so I guess it's plenty good enough already.

Tekken 8, too. The summary seems to be it's kinda shit online but good singleplayer (which is what I care most about), and nickle and dimed to death with having to buy extra stages and the like. Maybe @DestoryerCarbine or @CamNewton have an opinion on it?

I found the netplay for tekken 8 to be quite good, but I haven't played it since launch outside of a few games with @EggnogEnjoyer.

Tekken 8 is a decent game with some annoying nonsense that probably won't bother you unless you plan on grinding in ranked or attending tournaments. If you enjoy fighting games more for the spectacle of hitting big moves and maybe learning a few combos, Tekken 8 is probably the best one on the market. I can't speak to the single player stuff because I basically never touch single player content in fighting games..

Tekken 8 is very mediocre. It does everything amazing :marseypomni2: outside :marseygrass: of the gameplay however. Loading :marseyunresponsive: times, all the features, everything is smooth :marseydarkfoidretard: AF.

The gameplay has been essentially dumbed down in a variety of different :marseyvenn3: ways, and the heat system :marseymars: combined with the general :marseysalutenovorossiya: vibe direction towards flashier shit, with easy cinematics, one button :marseyreportmaxxer2: easymode combos, the skill ceiling :marseysmokealarmbeep: for Tekken 8 is the lowest it's ever been in Tekken.

Having said that, it doesn't mean that the skill ceiling :marseysmokealarmbeep: is low, if you're a casual, a newcomer to the series, or otherwise someone who doesn't really :marseythinkorino2: give a shit about actually :marseynerd3: gitting gud, you might as well enjoy it a lot

Was just playing Tekken 7 since I forgot I had it, and the heat and easy combo system is there too. I'm not even good at these and it is rather easy. I beat half the story mode and arcade mode in under an hour.

No the "heat system" is new to Tekken 8, Tekken 7 had the rage drive/rage art stuff which was actually :marseyakshually: ok on a lot of the characters

And the "easy combo" system :marseymars: in talking :marseytalk: about in Tekken 8 is also new, it's called "special style" and you literally :marseyme: mash one button :marseychoice1: and the game will do a full combo for you

But also, these games :marseylegioncommander: only exist for the multiplayer. The Tekken 8 story :marseyslime: is definitely done a lot better :marseysaulgoodman: than Tekken 7, way way better, but I also really :marseythinkorino2: don't give a shit about the story, it's all about the multiplayer

Ah. In Tekken 7 there's an easy combo system where you hold LB and then have a choice of four combos, one per each face button, so it sounded like the same thing. Wild they made it even easier than that.

As far as the story goes, I generally hate stories in video games but Tekken's is absolutely batshit, so it's worth the watch. 7's story has you start off with "hold X+Y to throw baby off cliff" :mysides:

Honestly I genuinely do not remember that from Tekken 7 lol, but the easy stuff has definitely been extended in Tekken 8 with the Special :marseywomanmoment2: Style it was a big push they talked about it a lot before :marseyskellington: release

But Tekken 8's story :marseyslime: is similarly dumb and r-slurred :marseydisabled: in a fun way, plus they've already added some story :marseyslime: episodes for the new DLC characters and plan on doing more in the future

It sucks however that Tekken 7 tried to semi-retcon Heihachi's reasons for throwing :marseystoning: his kid off a cliff, in T7 they tried to do some bullshit :marseyitsallsotiresome: about how it was all about the Devil :marsey666: Gene, but before :marseyskellington: that it was just because he just wanted to see if he would :marseywood: live or die. If he dies, it meant he was never :marseyladybugitsover: worthy of being his son lol
