Today, let's discuss Final Fantasy XIV (read as fourteen). It's a classic "MMORPG" which is to say it's not an RPG, it's barely multiplayer (you gotta be in the groomcord bro :soycry:), and if you want the massive experience, you can do raids with an anonymous gang of r-slurs. It's honestly not worth the time, the average visual novel has a better story, skippable voice acting, and the coombait isn't only half naked :marseyunamused: Despite this, if you're NEETmaxxxing, it's probably one of the better games to get :marseyeggirl:'d in. I liked 14 and thought the MSQ is interesting but it's another case of you had to be there at the time. Trying to play through it all now is a beating. A lot of long standing mmos suffer from this

I'll give you the genuine real take - play for 40 hours and it'll get okay, but you'll have invested enough that you'll rationalize that as "good."

I was in deep for about a year, hit max level and finished all the content, and then I stopped playing. When I came back I was like "wow this game isn't as fun as I remember."

Most people who played that one first say that.

I'd say 6 is my favorite storyline and cast of characters.

The must-plays are 4, 6, 7, and less importantly 1, 9, 12.

The "interesting to try" are 3, 5.

I'd say that 2 was ahead of it's time for open character development and the use of dialog options, but navigating the world and nad other things make it kind of a shit sandwich to deal with.

8 was turbo autism with plenty of unlikeable characters. 10 was some sort of straggy soccer game.

The characters' designs and their early interactions can be really off-putting (except Auron. Auron is always :marseypunished: levels of badass)

Once the story starts to pick up that all fades to the background as the story is definitely one you get invested in with a conclusion that does not fail to payoff.

I remembering really liking the battle system as well, as it shows you turn order and how you can manipulate it. Adds a level of strategy to your fights.

The NES version of 1 is brutal with the 99 item limitations. A common thing for the final dungeon is to make multiple trips to gather items and return to replenish healing potions.

I played it for some time and it's not bad :marseywhatever: Very theme park. The bethesda formula of quests does align pretty well with MMO progession so it's not a huge shift. Quit and never came back though.

Ironically the one time Bethesda did anything right it was Morrowind, the most anti-Bethesda game ever, where everything is about handcrafting every quest and every part of the world. And I'm saying this as the notorious Darklands/King of Dragon Pass/Six Ages shill who supports "radiant" randomly-generated quests.

Most boring MMO I've found yet. All the classes core gameplay is like "Mash the basic attack button to do a basic attack every 2 seconds, then every 15 seconds your heavy attack will be off cooldown so hit that instead. This is your entire attack chain until you hit level 69 and unlock a third ability worth using." I don't understand why anyone puts up with this.

About to finish BG3. Going to kill everyone.

As soneone who played the series growing up, I am really pleased. The main issues gameplay wise are the same as the ones in the Original Sin games, which are minor. The other issue is every single companion overly trying to frick you. Romance is the worst thing to happen to gaming since weebs, and they are probably the cause of it.

Played system shock remake. Never played the original version because its an eyesore. Breddy gud, but i dislike how limited the inventory is. And it really needed to tell you how to do the circuit board puzzles in-game because its fricking impossible to figure out. You need to look at the manual which was included in the game files at launch but is now gone for some reason. Started replaying 2 and i guess im doing a psi run because of that dumbass character creation :marseyclueless:

The only good one is the 1800 one but even thats only mediocre, and the problem is that they spent 90% of budget on the anti-piracy denuvo shit so there isn't a crack for it.

There's supposedly some pirate-themed game similar to it that came out recently that people are hailing as 1800 with better graphics

Cyberpunk 2077

This is my third playthrough, second phantom liberty. Now that game works better then ever. I actually have more issues with game itself then before. I was never fan of writing in act 2. I didnt like johnny. Everything you do is undercut by guy apearing and pooping on you and everything. Yet game except you to blow him. I hated ticking clock part. I didnt like panam. How she is just massive frick up and her murderhobo bf just bails her out. Yet everyone except saul acts like she is greateat thing ever. Game itself tries to force you to love her. I hate that stuff.

I like world and other side characters. But pacing is horrible in main game. I just wish plot would be. Become someone with jackie. With finnal gig going wrong badly. Rather then what we got.

But on my second playthrough of phantom liberty. Writing is way better on main game then phantom liberty. V is writen one way and one way only. They take so much of control away from you. There is times when V just talks and acts without giving option to you. Gig are good. But they follow same pattern. You do gig until certain point. Then you get moral choice you have to make. It would be better if they cut down that stuff. Give some stright forward. Kill this guy. Steal that. Save this person. Then ocasionally gigs that have something else going on.

As for main quest. Songbird sucks. She is just butthole that fricked everyone over and put everyone in danger. And game acts like she is wonderful. If you dont agree with that. Game hammers you with how horribe you are. Ability to just kill her becouse she is danger to everyone and be done with whole thing. Would have gone long way.

As for rest of main cast. All they do is cry about past. Scenes after scenes of them Crying stuff from 7 years ago. Reed would have been way more intresting if they focused on his life like its now. Most intresting he was when he talked to his boss at bouncer job. Not as idiot who follow orders till end of world and cry about what happened 7 years ago. Instead.

Maybe he has family now. And now he is called back in action. He has to balance his loyalty to NUSA, his family and his guilt and desire to save songbird. Alex could still be one stuck on past. That works for her best in game. Shitty backround. Total disillusionment toward NUSA. Stuck in diner in dogtown. It makes sense for her to be one stuck in past. Not everyone. It becomes so annoying when a they do is talk 7 years ago this and that.

Both main quest paths for phantom liberty are well done. But rely entirely on fact that you give two shits about songbird. But you must hand it to them. It was genius to make her asian foid. Yellow fever has done most heavy lifting for them. But i wish they tried to make songbird less of butthole and backstabbing b-word. Maybe she dosent promise cure outright. Just she is working on something that might work for them. Instead what she gives is slows down relic. Gives V longer to live. But thats entirely dependant on songbird living. Becouse if she goes. Clock starts to tic again. Now V has reason to see for her safty and maybe there is permanent solution for V at end. So when songbird says cure is just one time deal. And she needs it. Its not outright betrayal. Or maybe she puts out to V. So simps could have something else then she was nice to us.

Strange thing about dlc is audio quality and mixing. When dlc started. I got holo call from base game. Followed by call from songbird. Quality was compleatly diffeent. And sound mixing was different. It was much louder and harder. There was time when dialogue was incredibly loud during dlc. Sometimes it might be just for one character. It was very strange.

Another strange thing is how unsexy phantom liberty is. Basegame dose bait and switch with tutorial mission throwing tits at your face from get go. Then pulling back. But you still hang with prostitutes and there is sexual stuff at backround. Phantom liberty has nothing. No romance. No whores. No sexual content. No sexual art. It has been scrubbed clean.

Overall phantom liberty dosent bode well for next cyberpunk game. Becouse it was done by team that suposed to do next cyberpunk. Its US team based in boston. Next game is probably rated for teens rather then mature. And is probably woke enough to cause massive drama

Yeah I had some issues with base game's writing, a lot rides on you the player liking Johnny — if you think he's a dumb butthole the game doesn't let you play that out (Arasaka :marseydevil: ending is just misery porn tbh). Also the Judy romance is a lot better than big dumptruck bpd Panam but you have to be a lesbo so rip (the male romance options, River and Kerry, are laughable).

But WOW Phantom Liberty is a massive downgrade for sure. The presentation is cleaner and sleeker but the writing is pure slop. I don't even mean like V being immediately Songbird's #1 fan for no reason, but shit like having the old woman President manhandle you after just killing 50 militia goons to save her :marseyxd:. The Idris Elba character is just boring :marseysleep: , and the new Johnny content doesn't sound like him at all. Expect more slop to come

I think phantom liberty manages to trick you pretty efficently becouse its so slick and quests are better done then main quests in base game.

In maingame. You go place. You wait around. You drive around. You talk. Then you shoot someone. Only whole foods quest is what stands out. In dlc its slick action movie. There is little downtime or those in transit moments. Encouters are well executed and highly detailed. It feels more engaging then basegame. That makes writing feel better. When in reality its step down. Inclusion of president is stupid. It could have been songbird that crashes on plane. His handler is there who dies. Before he dies. He gives you coin and number and where to call for help. Section you go through with president. You go throguh songbird. She loses control. You get seperated. You call help. That puts you in touch with reed.

That way you have more time to make connection to songbird. You cut off annoying girlboss thats total butthole.

As for johnny. Issue is. He is one dimenional and booring. He is just shock value. You have chracter thats crude and calls everything shit. Everyone sucks. And he talks highly improper ways. He dosent offer anyhing other then shock value. Any radical anti corpo companion would have worked as well or better.

Maybe writers should have read writings of real terrorists when writing him. Interview Sinwar gave years ago shows much more intresting character then johnny is.

Then in effort to give depth to johnny. He suddendly flips and starts to talk how he will try to save V. Personally i would have preferred if he wouldnt mind second chanse. That he would use it to bomb arasakks again. May chips fall where they fall. If i take over i have plan what i will do. But thats not happening probably becouse keanu. They didnt want to make him that selfish. Rather they give him unearned fake redemption
