Some people are frustrated that such a small simple game (solo dev) is nominated instead of a more traditional 3rd person story driven game. Just check out the past winners, basically all in the same genre (Action-adventure) except for Overwatch (Waifu sim).

My opinion? I think it is a good thing that Balatro was nominated and I hope more like it get nominated. Though Wukong should probably win this year if it's as good as people say.

Broforce! A tribute to 80s action movies, it's a cut above the average pixelslop, with a worryingly destructible world, and a giant cast of characters. The story, inasmuch as there is one, is a bog standard "america bad" parody. Even though you might be in a jungle, the enemies are still terrorists who hate our freedoms. Despite this, it's in no way "woke," the love for the source material is clear, and the terrorists make for uncomplicated bad guys who you have to kill, with no whinging about their humanity. I knew it would be low budge and strange but it was actually unredeemable. The game didn't even try to be funny, how the frick do you make a porn game about hitler and take yourself seriously. The dialog had that cringe everyone is trying to be badass and snarky style of writing emblematic of a tween who loved sonic powerscaleing fan fiction 2 weeks ago but is totally so much cooler than that now.

Can't accuse the art of being ai, even when ai didn't know how many fingers were on a human hand it didn't produce shit like this.

Anyways I bought the game to stick it to shlomo for bitching at steam and I don't regret it.
