Jonathan Blow, at this point best known for sperging out on Twitter at inferior game devs, was at one point best known as an indie darling. While Braid may seem like a simple Mario clone, to the cretins of 2008, Braid represented the coming indie golden age, and honestly, its best remembered that way. The game itself is indeed a fairly simple Mario clone, with some interesting twists, and theoretically is about some deep themes. I wouldn't know, I've never beaten it.

The developer was in a documentary where he cried about how hard everything was. I think that he later rage quit part 2 cause people kept making fun of him.

Dude was just weak. But fez was free on ps plus and it was a decent puzzle game overall.

Fishman was only one side of the dev team of Fez. When he 'cancelled' Fez 2, he no longer was working with the other lead dev so there's always a question of just how much did he contribute to Fez 1's development

Also I played Hyper Light Drifter and Breaker via the bundle, Drifter was great but Breaker sucked butt, which sucks because the 3rd person rougelike genre only has Risk of Rain 2 and Crab Champions as the good games, everything else that has tried has failed miserably

The joke is that it has a 1-2 hour intro where you dont get to do much (just like the first game :marseyxd:)

Once you get past that its great though.

2 pro tips: when you need a horse and the game suggests going to semine, do that.

And the way armor works is confusing but basically if you have proper armor getting hit will drain your stamina before your health. This applies to you and enemies. So if you encounter a guy wearing armor you need to be aggressive.

Everyone was taling about Against the Storm last week so I gave it a try. Pretty cozy.

Upped the difficulty on my last two tries and it can get a bit frustrating when you don't roll the buildings you need. I thought I was going to fail them both but I still pulled through.

What level are you at? Early on the higher difficulties don't do much. Buildings aren't too much of an issue, imo, unless you make the mistake of taking one of those quests which requires a certain service building. There's a lot of reputation lying around in glades, which can help get some of the most over runs out of the ditch.

Been messing around with gamepass games. Iron Brigade is a pretty fun mech tower defense game :marseyangryexosuit:

I'm also playing Ryse Son of Rome again after many years. I think it's a neat game and I appreciate that they just made a history themed game without it having to belong to an IP or anything. It's also still a gorgeous game. Looks like it came out yesterday. (Maybe games just don't improve anymore :marseythonk:)

I quite liked Ryse. Yeah it's a CoD-esque spectacle game but it's competently done and the gameplay is engaging on higher difficulties. I wish it was more successful so we got more setpiece driven historical games.

That's a killer when it comes to games for me. I don't like playing multiplayer for strategy games (I suck, and I get violently r*ped by tryhards), so if AI fails, the game fails for me.

I like the ideas behind civ 6, but I don't feel like playing that game ever again when there is no real challenge.

Strangers can be fun if they're talkative but I guess I get what you mean, i mostly play with people I know too. The bigger problem is if they have shitty internet/computer which is often the case on CTA gates of heck :marseymalding: and if you play in something like CPL you'd often encounter many of the same players. I personally don't really find strategy games that fun if my opponent doesn't have a brain. Even if it's a bad (eastern european) brain.

I think you being bad at strategy games is largely a mental thing, atleast from what I saw in hoi4, you mentally overcomplicate things, most strategy games are not that complex.

balance is w/e. Design wise I like it a lot. Diplomacy is actually transparent, which is very nice, resources actually make sense on a civilization scale, etc etc

Resource micro is as annoying as pop micro was, or worse. I don't mind the permanent pop assignments though.

I got surprise DOWed by 3 AI's on the same turn in the modern age from friendly/neutral, which didn't feel very transparent. Maybe they have some hardcoded logic to team up against the winner :marseyshrug:

Resource micro is incredibly annoying and hopefully they figure out something better. I really like the perma pop assignments, especially combined with the removal of workers/builders. I haven't had any surprise DOWs like that, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's a thing on Deity. I'm mostly comparing the AI with the AI from 5/6 which was always mysterious and annoying to deal with. The new system at least tells me what's giving me opinion maluses/bonuses.

Been playing a lot of KCD2, its great. It took me 30 hours to finish the first main quest and im now level 15 (the max is 30).

Started playing Infernax which i think takes inspiration from castlevania 2 specifically. Its neat but really fricking hard :marseyrage: and i refuse to switch to the mode that lets keep xp when you die so youll eventually make some progress after beating your head against a wall because they call it CASUAL mode and im NOT A FRICKING CASUAL :marseyraging:

I just finished this one. What a great game. I wish there were more detective games out there.

I went in without knowing anything about the plot so it was a pretty epic moment the first time the kraken appears

Went to an arcade and played "Star Wars Battle Pod" and it was pretty cool, it felt like being in my childhood spaceshit. :marseysoypoint2: The seat rumbles and it's all first person. Also mad cost effective compared to the low effort children's gambling devices that seem to dominate your average current year arcade

To clarify, I started a while back. It's a cool game but it feels like it has a lot of natural stopping points, and the more meditative pace doesn't really grab my attention for a quick gooming session. That's mostly what I've had time for lately.

I feel like Outer Wilds would have been a perfect pandemic neet game. I had some lazy afternoons with nothing to worry about and I actually had time to finish stuff like Fire Emblem Three Houses. As it is, I really will finish Outer Wilds, but I'll need to block out some time for it, rather than just expecting it to happen

Annoyed that there haven't been any good horror games in the past couple of years, I downloaded Minecraft :marseyminer: for the first time and used a highly recommended modpack called "Minecraft VHS".

Six hours in and all I can say is that I was almost in tears at one point due to the sheer dread and atmosphere underground. Don't know the last time a game's gotten me that good, and it was a shitty kid's block game.

Been playing some classic games, most recently Tomb Raider and Diablo. Both haven't really held up, which makes sense for games that will be turning 30 soon.

Even though Tomb Raider hasn't held up I did find it interesting to play. It is a very different approach to a 3d puzzle platformer. Much less about timing or reactions and more about finding the correct line up. There isn't that much to it but I can imagine that there are more ways that it could be developed. Combat is even more jank but also a little more interesting. You have to find ways to jump around while still shooting the enemies, which can be a challenge considering how picky the movement system is.

I found Diablo much less interesting. Honestly there is barely even a game to be found. As the warrior there is really no strategy other than find a door to camp at so you don't get surrounded. Magic user is better, spells can have damage modifiers vs enemies, but it is still really basic. Also the fact that you have to trek between the different vendors every time you get to the overworld is just insulting as a player. Complete waste of my time.

I've been playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the PC. Looks and runs great, the combat is fun, but the open world is testing my patience. Plus they reeeeally want you to play their deck building card game and I would rather strike my balls with a hammer.

I've been thinking about how over open world games I've been feeling recently. They only work when you have a highly interactive world with lots of opportunities for emergent gameplay - but so few open world games deliver that.

I tried the Plentiful demo- a game made by a former long-time 3D GTA dev.

I'll probably pick up Civ VII because I was always going to buy it anyway. Then I can complain about how it's not as good as previous Civs with all the expansions.
