Game to Discuss?
This week, we're discussing Warframe, the hit free to play space ninja game. While theoretically being about ninjas, it's more akin to a over-the-shoulder diablo, where you kill endless waves of enemies in exchange for a paltry sum of resources, which you can turn into all kinds of fun stuff. The game, like all long running live service games, has at this point amassed more cruft than the average hoarder, which while making it much harder to complete, means you can waste a few months on the existing content, with plenty of FOMO to keep you busy in the meantime. Vote in the pinned comment, and discuss below.

Finally a game I have played in one of those threads.
The core gameplay is fun, even if often it's hard for it to find balance between too hard and too easy. If you look up builds online it will be the latter. I have done all of my builds myself and so it's often the former.
Also, I allow myself to channel
@Qar here, story past New War is kinda lame and gay. New War itself was mostly rushed to the point of being barely coherent, but I can see a world where it's actually really good, what comes after though has a lot of cringe interpersonal melodrama written by women, and that is irredeemable.
The player base is equally soy and cringe with shippers, coomers, and just general soyyery. It's easy to get chat banned, or just banned for being rude.

Tbh, when I get my new PC (coming soon{TM}) I will come back to the game even if the writing is shit, the gameplay is good. I managed to tackle lvl 100 enemies with my shitty homemade build, and I want to see how far I can push it (probably lvl 101).

Of all the grinding based games I've played, this is the one I regret the least. The huge mission variety, combined with the randomized maps, means that it's significantly less repetitive than other grinding games. While there's a lot of shit you can unlock, and a lot of fun stuff which just isn't viable, there's enough of it to give you some variety.

It's very fun to play with friends but then you run into a mission where you need to get a randomly dropped item to progress. They aren't rare but if you are having a bad RNG day then you'll have to arbitrarily repeat the mission till the enemy type gives you the random loot.
That's when the freemium starts to shine through and the game stalls out because it turns into an neurodivergent funko collecting simulator.

I have played Warframe for years and it's pretty easy to play 100% free with a lot of content. It is kind of a power fantasy game though. You can pretty easily trivialize everything in the game and it's basically just grinding to collect everything.

I now have almost 70 hours in KCD2, have completed most of the quests, side quests and other activities in the second map (Kuttenberg) ... and am a little disappointed. The main story is fantastic and the world is still great, but it's clear that the developers put more time into the first map. The surrounding villages of the town are mostly nothing more than simple copies of each other, no longer worthy of a visit after the relevant (and completely unremarkable and forgettable) quests, and I can barely remember any memorable NPCs. And since I've been in Kuttenberg, quests have consisted of 'rob NPC x, break into house y and steal z', if the fricking crime system worked, but so much is buggy here. I've heard that the game has a brilliant ending and I'm looking forward to it. And the devs squeezed in a 50GB "patch", which of course was a lot of fun and changed exactly ... two things.
Of course, we also played FragPunk and it was actually a lot of fun (every comp game is fun the first ten or so hours). I especially like the duels at the end to determine the winner of the match. A lot of the nonsense in the game doesn't seem balanced or fully thought out to me, but in the first few noob weeks without a meta you can play without thinking too much about it anyway. The opponents have almost always been piss-poor so far, so you can just outaim anyone, but I think this could be an interesting game to play in between releases.

Dwarf Fortress. Got to 160 population, everyone in the upper happiness categories. A werewolf surprise attacked the fortress and got in before I could raise the gate. He got killed quickly, but the next full moon four of my dudes turned into werewolves too and slaughtered 12 more dorfs before they got taken down. Many others got wounded, so essentially this is a losing fortress.
I'm generating a new planet now where there aren't vampires or werewolves because frick that noise.
!g*mers I just created !dorfs

Every vehicle has a name like "SKD 7-T" and every building has a name like "Electrified transfer station specifically for moving raw ores between tramways and SKD 7-T helicopters"
A+ Eastern European work

I love it so much

It's mostly openttd, with less refined order control. I think it probably makes sense to play on realistic, even if other options are turned off or reduced, the game wasn't all that interesting until I did that. I've played a decent amount and I can try to answer questions.

How even does a human being work under communism? They wake up, get on a random(?) bus or train, get off at the first place workers are needed, then teleport home?
I think I am restarting on realistic tomorrow, I just now achieved a stable settlement but teleporting supplies in from the motherland feels like cheating

Yes, they go to the closest available job in walking distance, if possible. If there are no open jobs, they go to the nearest bus stop and wait for the bus. Then they teleport home, and go out shopping to refill essential needs. If there's a need (ahem religion) they can't fulfill, attractions act as substitutes for that need. The amount of food and meat they consume is scaled off of the combined work time+commute time.

Just living the meme of having a modern i9/4070ti rig and a Steam library with a backlog over 10,000 and mostly playing old butt games instead.
...Like Final Fight 2. Gave that a full playthrough the other night since I played Final Fight 1 probably 100 times in my life but I haven't played FF2 since back in the day. It has a bad rep and I'm not sure why. It's no Final Fight, but it's still good. Fluid movement and combat, interesting level design and backgrounds, enemy variety is weaker, which made me wonder about 10 minutes into the game...
Why are there no sluts to beat up this time? Since it was exclusive to the SNES, I'm sure Nintendo had something to do with it.
What a weird little rabbit hole. Trains in a 1989 game? I never knew they were trains, thought they were knife-wielding hookers. Which I guess could still make them trans but it's not the first place your mind goes. And WTF is a newhalf?

IIRC none of the SNES Final Fight games had women enemies because of Nintendo's policies on it. The first one replaced them with twinkie looking dudes, other enemies and bosses had name/sprite changes as well.

This week, I've been playing a lot of A-Train, the japanese-kinda equivalent of TTD. While principally a transportation game, it's got a much more in depth business simulation, where you're actually forced to pay attention to stuff like depreciation, taxes and prices, on top of running a transportation empire. There's a lot less control over trains, though, which makes it much more micro-intensive. You don't even seem to have signals available, which means avoiding collisions is annoying AF. The worst part of the game is actually the tutorialization, which is simply atrocious - the game assumes you are a drooling r-slur, and won't even give you the ability to save your game before a certain point. There is a much more interesting passenger model than most similar games, where while you can't see how many passengers are waiting for a train, you do have peaks and crests across individual days, with lower traffic on weekends.
I've otherwise been playing some Command:MO, which is fun, though I wish included some campaigns with the base purchase, and Armored Commander II, which I've barely delved into. Also been back on the Elin grind, trying to make wizard work, which isn't much fun.

I ended up playing avowed. After i gave up on it. Had nothing better to do.
To its credit. Game gets better. Tutorial and first zone are weakest. Game is still massively mid and low energy. Its hollow and lacks any kinda soul.
Combat is okey just shallow and way too easy to break. Played as mage. Game was too easy so respected to warrior. It was even more broken and i was unstoppable. Then i respected to guns. And that was even more broken.
I came up with another build i didnt try becouse it would have been even stronger. 4 pistols. With right gear it would have probably been highest dps build.
Keep in mind. Game was easy on my weakest build allready.
Last part of game was just stupid. It was just gountlet. Where you fought through enemies to reach point. Twice. That point i just ran through everyone to get to end.
Writing was mid. Too much text overall. Constant nagging. Stupid cliches.
Game was woman brained point it was stupid. Most the military leaders were foid and important people. Every foid was ugly. Except there is one beautiful white foid in game. And she is running iligal abortion clinic.
Ugly people. Constant nagging no matter what you did was bizzar choise to make.
Over all. Too much talking. Too booring. Unmemorable. Hollow and souless.

Arma Reforger. Eurojank-butt game but fun to play when stoned and doing co-op.
Quake. Used to play this when it was first released, awesome to play the remake/remaster.
Beat Borderlands 3 last week. Game was fun despite the shitty writing and flooding the player with orange loot all of the sudden.

Me and a friend started playing gunfire reborn, a roguelite fps thats been around for a few years now. What we did not realise going in but became quickly apparent is that the game is chinese. VERY chinese. In the first 10 minutes the game was throwing walls of broken english at us, it was especially bad for me since i chose a dlc character that has a robot that does all the fighting for you and his upgrades are incredibly confusing. In those first 10 minutes i was thinking i would probably refund the game but about an hour later during our second run i was thinking 'this shit rocks'.
The game has no sense of restraint or balance; damage numbers quickly inflate to an insane degree and theres so many different systems that you quickly lose of track of what upgrades you have. In one run i was building around my characters secondary skill because its damage would increase every time i killed something with it - it was going terribly and halfway through i was deeply regretting my decision. Then i got one upgrade that made it work and i became unkillable while one-shotting everything. At some point i started shooting these orbs that would wipe out entire packs before i could even get to them. It took me a while to realise that was an upgrade from the season 4 mechanic that generated the orbs as i ran and the reason they were so strong is that they were copying my secondary skill.
The game has random crits (called lucky shots since headshots are called crits) and like warframe you can go over 100% crit chance and start getting double crits. In fact you can go over 200% and start getting triple crits. I havent seen a quadruple crit but im sure its possible.
The game is so fricking confusing at first and the bad translation certainly doesnt help, there are 2 upgrades that are so poorly translated that I still have no idea what they do even though i can comprehend the rest of the game's nonsense.
Theres an insane amount of content. The game does only have 4 environments which is a bit disappointing but the amount of modifiers and new mechanics you unlock keep it fresh. Theres 4 seasons and each one has an incredibly in depth new mechanic. You can play with the mechanics from previous seasons and i havent even touched any of them yet.
I highly recommend it, especially with the dlc since each one adds 2 new characters and theyre all way more complex than the base characters.

Still on Spider Man 2. The beginning of the story was absolute dogshit but it's not too bad once it gets going. If you ignore the side quests you can avoid the political messaging. My main complaint is how stale the combat gets since there's not much variety.

I full completed Assassin's Creed Origins so now I'm on to Odyssey. I love this game
Most fun I've had with the franchise since Brotherhood and Black Flag
I honestly had low expectations going in. I used to be put off by the switch to the RPG formula and I'm still a little bothered by things like the damage sponge enemies and level beefgating.
Actually giving it a try though, I like it anyway
Stealth works pretty well and doesn't seem to have been tossed out the window. I can still reliably sneak around and assassinate. The storyline is actually decent imo. Maybe Valhalla just set a really low bar and makes Odyssey look better in retrospect
Also female Eivor looked like an ambigous mass of testosterone and tattoos while Kassandra looks like Gal Gadot
I'm not always a fan of Ubisoft's open world collectathon formula, so something about Odyssey just hits different. Greece is a beautiful setting and I actually like wandering around. The freeform naval is addicting as ever and I forgot how much I missed it from Black Flag/Rogue. Being able to recruit almost any enemy as a lieutenant tickles my autism and almost feels like army building. I've spent a ton of time just hunting down themed lieutenants i.e. a full crew of Spartans to larp as a Peloponnesian ship or Athenians for a Delian ship. You can even recruit Cult of Kosmos guards to larp as the Templar bad guys lmao. It's surprising how much freedom Ubisoft gave you here. Even some of the scripted enemies from main missions can be recruited and the devs had the foresight to let them keep their unique icons
The mercenary system is neat and feels kinda like Ubisoft's take on the Nemesis system from that lotr game. It's pretty fun to work your way up the ladder and of course to keep the coolest mercenaries alive for your personal collection
I also like how the Cult of Kosmos doesn't just appear in the main missions. Some of them are npcs scattered around the game world and you actually have to track them down on your own time. Makes you feel like a real assassin
(Valhalla has this too and that was one thing about the game I actually liked)
While the game is a grind objectively speaking, it doesn't feel like one because I actually like fricking around in the world and doing whatever. This is one of the few rpgs where the act of getting xp is actually fun, in that I can just do whatever I actually like doing and the game rewards me for it. Doesn't try to railroad me towards a specific and "more important" gameplay loop. It's also nice that side quests and other activities level with you once you surpass the minimum level so that the xp reward is always decent
There are so many little things to appreciate too. The conquest battles are fun. I like that you can change the appearance of any gear piece like in an MMO. I wasn't sure about Bioware esque stuff like the multiple choice dialogue and romances at first, but the game won me over by letting me romance a bona fide GILF
Bioware wouldn't even let me romance Samara or Wynne
All in all this is a great game and easily top three for the whole franchise. On that note, the differences between Odyssey and Valhalla need to be studied
In the macro scale they're almost the same game; same formula, same genre, same combat. But Odyssey has a lot to stand out for and be proud of while Valhalla's devs produced so many unnecessary changes and bad ideas. Those subtle changes had a huge impact -- it seems like almost everyone loves Odyssey, while Valhalla feels like a chore and made people think Ubisoft had flown too close to the sun
It also doesn't help that dark ages Europe is a much uglier setting than classical Greece. Ironically I think "Dude Vikings lmao"
would have been a better fit for the earlier, more linear Assassin's Creed formula than the current open world one.

Hey
@Ninjjer help me out with some Workers and Resources autism pls. I've got a town with a bus station ferrying workers to the powerplant/refinery/construction complex east of the town (forcing everybody out so construction busses can pick up workers). West of the town, I've build aircraft manufacturing. What's the least r-slurred way to try and shuttle workers around? Two separate lines from the town to complex east and complex west? One line going to construction, then aerospace?
Current setup is one line dropping everybody off at construction, then a second line picking up workers from the construction station, that leads to 0 workers in asphalt and concrete plants as the busses to aerospace complex hoover up everybody waiting at the station before they decide to look for jobs.

It depends on how much you need plane exports vs expansion of domestic production. If you have enough people to staff both, use two cocurrent lines. If you don't, or you want to be able to prioritize construction, have two sequential lines. Afaik there's no way to do a partial transfer of passengers, so you can't do it with one line, unless you do aircraft (load/unload) --> construction station (force transfer). Also remember you can force workers to go to other buildings from bus stations, including other bus stations, which can be a handy way to extend walking ranges, though you will need to feed workers more.

Oooh I didn't know that, that might come in handy, thanks mate
Anyway I ended up setting up one line town > aerospace (unload 50%) > construction (force everybody out), that keeps the construction industry/powerplant/water treatment running reliably while having some people assembling top quality Soviet airplanes, just needed some fiddling with the busses to make sure they're leaving town filled up 100%

After finishing New Vegas, I decided to play Bloodstained as a pallette cleanser. It's ok, pretty standard Igavania, it overstays its welcome in the final quarter if you go for the good ending. I felt that way about SotN if you do the inverted castle, too, though. I think I'm going to take another crack at Pathfinder Kingmaker next.
Also playing a game most dramatards will never get a chance at, Just Breed.
Seriously though, it's a good but not great TRPG that shows its age, probably only for die hard fans of the genre.
