I legitimately liked Ryse. Probably wouldn't have given it a 10 if I weren't a big Rome sperg :marseylegion: But still, good game :marseyagreefast:

The game is gorgeous and looks much better than games coming out right now. Seriously wtf :lemindblown: The combat is actually engaging on higher difficulties and the plot is a fun swords and sandals revenge romp in a genre and setting I personally never get tired of :marseylaying: Character design is great. The voice acting is solid and breathes life into lines that don't really seem like much on paper. There aren't many games that really have movie quality line delivery so I really noticed and appreciated that about Ryse.

And honestly I really appreciate the premise. That they just made a history themed game without it having to belong to an existing IP or something.

The multiplayer is simple but addictive, mainly sold to me personally on the premise of being a gladiator fighting in the Colosseum. Your character's entrance into the arena every match is kino :marseykino: and I never get tired of killing Britons by the hundreds :marseyqueenlizardgenocide: It's also a pretty engaging experience if you want to try your hand at the harder content, like trying to make it through survival for more than thirty minutes. All in all I had a lot of fun with this game :marseygladiatorpat:

I honestly think critics were really unfair to Ryse, since it was a great game whose main flaw was just being short. It was also an era where people still listened to critics and to this day the game's negative reception is something people remember.

But just as the goddess Nemesis empowered our hero Marius Titus to take revenge against the corrupt Emperor Nero and his sons, so too did g*mergate descend upon the journos just a few months after Ryse released. True !g*mers revolted against the parasites and dispelled their influence forever more, striking them down like the sword of Damocles reborn and restoring true peace to the G*mer Empire :marseythumbsup:

In other words g*mergate wouldn't have happened if the journ*lists had been more impartial to Ryse. It was their last and final mistake.

One minor thing I really appreciated in this game is after the Boudicca fight she points out they'd be allies in another life and the player character agrees and kills her anyway. In a worse game they'd team up and girl boss the evil emperor but instead he does what his character would actually do and kill the barbarian who sacked Rome.

I wish setpiece games didn't die to get replaced by movie games or open world slop.

jagged alliance 3. i really like it, it feels like a worthy successor to 2 but im not super far into it. i just took drachenberg and entered the u-bahn. some of the quest lines are surprisingly involved. it captures the feel well:

Civ 6 mostly. I'm getting kinda bored of it though. Also played some Deus Ex for the first time.

Deus Ex

Starts off a little slow but really picks up. And it helps if you put yourself into a 1990s conspiracy theory mindset. Watch a couple episodes of the X-Files.

I really like it from the start. Reading all the news snippets in the game really builds the atmosphere well on it's own.

Also the terrorist leader name dropping Rockefellers and Rothschilds made me chuckle. No mainstream game would dare to fuel rightoid conspiracy theories like that today.

I've been stuck on Darkest Dungeon 2 for a couple months now. Not as unforgiving as the first, but still difficult enough to really enjoy the victories. Played through the new Kingdoms mode a couple times and it just hasn't hooked me.

My foid and I played a genealogy, investigative game called The Roottrees Are Dead which was fun to do over the weekend. She doesn't really game so it's nice when I find a game in that vein that she can get into as well.

Any of you guys try out RollerDrome? One of the Hexbear guys made a link to a Youtube video of it. It looks pretty rad, and may scratch my itch for more Hotline Miami do-it-till-you-get-it-near-perfect game play.

Why are you on hexbear? But the game is pretty good, it's a little light in terms of mechanics but the ones that are there are pretty satisfying, It definitely reminds me of perfecting runs in Hotline Miami, but only really if you try to combo the entire level. Sometimes the controls feel kinda unresponsive because it's asking you to do a lot and there's a lot of button combos that turn your hands into pretzels. Very solid game though I really liked it.
