It is now Wednesday and @Ninjjer hasn't posted the weekly yet
So anyways here's a gaming thread since I've posted them before. @Aevann please pin
Also Ninjjer says he chooses weekly games mostly at random and is open to suggestions. I've been choosing them randomly too lol so feel free to share if anyone has a future suggestion.
What are you playing currently?

Game to Discuss?
This week we're discussing Outer Wilds, the @PeepeeButtKiss special. This game started as a college student's project and evolved into a full space puzzle game. It's like Myst in that it's a pure puzzle with knowledge on what you should be doing next being all you really need. It also has quite the plot twist at the end of your first in-game day
Future Games To Discuss
April 7: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
April 14: Star Wars: The Old Republic (MMO)
April 21: For Honor
April 28: Two Worlds

My favorite moment from the game wasn't figuring out the ending or Dark Bramble or anything like that. It was getting separated from my ship in space, running out of jetpack fuel and having to use my oxygen as fuel instead. I made it inside right before I ran out with almost perfect timing.
It's one of those crazy game moments that cannot occur intentionally.

those accidental moments or discoveries were some of the best parts. @PeepeeButtKiss discovered how too get inside the Ash Twin by total accident just exploring and seeking shelter from the Sand pillar and warping in, before @PeepeeButtKiss ever discovered the warp mechanic. was confused as heck lol there was tons of little moments like that @PeepeeButtKiss wont forget

The ending is kinda pretentious but the rest of it is 10/10. The exploration is great and there's a ton of cool environmental puzzles

First, thanks
@PeepeeButtKiss for shilling this to me
I don't know how to talk about this game without sounding like a Redditor
but it really is one of the most unique games I've ever played. It'll give you an existential crisis
First, I appreciate that it's a pure puzzle. You don't need to grind anything or tackle the environment in a specific order. Everything in the game, even the DLC location if it's installed, is available as soon as you get the spaceship. The only obstacle to beating the game is your lack of knowledge. Like Myst, it can be "beaten" in seven minutes if you DO know what to do.
The game has an amazing story, and it's nothing like a standard jrpg or cinematic Sony title or anything that could otherwise be a book or movie. In the vein of Kojima's philosophy
the story only works and is only interesting because of the interactive medium. Slowly piecing together the puzzle, finding out what's "wrong" with your solar system and how to "end" it. It's true what the shills say, man. You can only experience it once.
The game is kind of (in)famous for the realistic space physics. Normies are often filtered by having to cancel out their previous acceleration to not crash into their destination
The game has a computer that'll do it for you but it often takes normies directly into the sun
Gravity is also treated realistically so you can end up doomed to fall into the sun if you lose too much speed while nearby, or falling off a comet because you jumped too hard. But when you do master the spaceship it's a lot of fun to fly around and explore
There isn't too much else to say without major spoilers, but yeah, truly a one of a kind puzzle game that few others measure up to. And with a simple yet meaningful story more thought provoking than any liberal arts major ever produced

Heck yea @PeepeeButtKiss is glad you liked it, one of @PeepeeButtKiss's favorite games of all time and you summed it up perfectly, the game is unforgettable. @PeepeeButtKiss tried too get some buddies into it and they never really took too it cuz they're tards
Also @PeepeeButtKiss played it in the summer of 2020 as well which for other reasons and stuff @PeepeeButtKiss had going on was a really awesome summer so it'll always hold a special place in @PeepeeButtKiss's memory besides just for being an awesome game

Have you played the dlc? It's basically completely separate from the base game, so you don't lose out on anything by having beaten the game already.

I liked it until you go into the Dark Bramble or whatever the anglerfish planet was called. It going from comfy puzzle game to actually having challenge outside of puzzle solving made me feel bad.

I left dark bramble for last when I originally played and up until that point the only thing that could kill me i'd found was my own mistakes with flying, gravity etc. This lulled me into a completely false sense of security for the majority of the game then suddenly there's an actual monster i'm supposed to avoid. At first I was kinda annoyed but came to grips with it fairly easily anyways.
Overall still one of my favorite 10/10 games. Once I understand how the game's quantum mechanics lesson worked with observable objects I felt true

Yeah I disagreed with the fish being there
because it goes against how the rest of the game works.
I have a similar problem with the dlc though I still liked every other part of it.
I still give it a 10/10 because the rest of the game shines so brightly.
Heh heh, shines so brightly

This project got money when a financier reached out to the team after they won some developer awards. Then they did a fundraising thing that gave ownership to donators. It eventually got even more funding when Annapurna (RIP) agreed to publish the game, buying out the rights from the first donators. IIRC the original financier was some actor who just wanted to open a game studio. He has most definitely made his money back and then some. Kind of a crazy story, but the game still turned out really good.

The Shapeshifting Detective.
It's an FMV game like we had in the 1990s
except with actual actors, not just random family members of the guy who made it. The gimmick is that you're investigating a crime but you can shapeshift and appear to be one of the other suspects when you talk to someone. It creates a lot of interesting situations where you can ask someone the same question and see how they answer to different people.
This time I actually caught the killer on my first try.
The only problem is !britbongs God help me I might be starting to like the Welsh.

Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters
Specifically The Ur-Quan Masters.
I have played it before many times. First time in mid 2000s. But there has been some times since i last played it. Youtube recomended me soundtrack and i rememberd it and had to play it.
I didnt rember how good it is. I always think its masterpiece. But i think it even more highly every time i play it. This time i noticed lot of influence it has had on other games. Mainly mass effect. Reapers are very reminiscent of ur-quan. Especially Kohr-Ah. In ME1 when you talk to sovering. It reminds me of Kohr-Ah. If you know the words. History lesson and reasoning.
Game is such a delight. Its fun and comedic. But extreamly serious and bleak at same time. Orz are best example of this. Silly and strange aliens. But under the hood extreamly distorting. Even if aline race is joke. There is something serius to balance it out. It works extreamly well becouse everything is played straight.
My favorite thing about game is how villain of game is handled. Bad guys are Ur-Quan Kzer-Za. You need to overcome them. But behind them is looming Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah. Even worse news for everyone. But you need to overcome Ur-Quan Kzer-Za otherwise you are powerless to protect yourself.
If you wait long enough to Kohr-Ah threat to manifest. And run into Ur-Quan Kzer-Za. They will plead you to run away and hide. And pray for your survival. Bad guys are pulling for your survival at that point. Its such amazing writing.
Frankly im suprised stellaris hasnt stolen Ur-Quan as end game crisis. Same race but diffrent views. Other wants to subjecute and shield rest of races. Other just blow them up. Then you can have multiple variations of end fame. Endgame where only other shows up. And those where both show up. With those its random which one shows up first
You can play ur-quan master free. https://sc2.sourceforge.net/ open source and all that

Bad guys with motives that actually make sense is more than you can expect from most games.
I have the problem that I waste too much time stockpiling resources and don't realize the Ur-Quan are coming until it's too late. I gotta learn to get my butt in gear.

Funnily enough. Once death march starts. Game gets easier. Becouse you dont need to talk or fight anyone anymore. Just loot dead planets.
That is one clever thing to do.
Closer you get to end date of game. Easier it becomes to finish.

Just completed Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. It was the best game I've played this year so far, really enjoyed it. This wodie thinks that this is Kojima at his best. He is still able too execute his crazy ideas, but this doesn't feel unhinged and wild. Instead, it feels deliberate and disciplined. The ending be like 🫡

Oh and I finally full completed AC Odyssey. Surprisingly good for modern? (six years ago
) Ubisoft.
Greece is a cool setting
The sailing is back
I found myself addicted to the little things like climbing your way up the mercenary ladder or finding cool soldiers to kick in the face and recruit as lieutenants
The game is generous enough with xp that you can level up just by peepeeing around. I didn't feel forced to do side quests.
Honestly it made me realize how tired and stale most RPGs are. Most of them follow the same formula of using side quests to pad out the game length. And side quests are the same fetch quest shit they've always been over the past thirty years
Odyssey isn't really an exception to this formula, but having so much else to do besides questing and having the game actually reward you for it is more than I can expect out of the usual Triple A release
The differences between Odyssey and other Ubijank collectathons need to be studied. It's not a radically different game, yet the sum of its parts came out so much better than Valhalla, or Shadows, or Far Cry 6, or anything else the company has produced in a while

@PeepeeButtKiss played this and Origins a few years back. Both pretty good, @PeepeeButtKiss cant remember which one @PeepeeButtKiss liked better tho, maybe Origins. Plus both settings were cool af
tried valhalla when it was on sale for like like 15 bucks and what a piece of shit barely got into it

I started Persona 4 on very hard but after 2 hours of cutscenes I got to the 1st boss and died, and tbh nothing about the game has grabbed me like Persona 3R or 5 did (though the more rural setting is kinda nice, I guess). Gonna push through because people love this game but I'm not feeling it atm.

Yes I 100%d the game. It's easier than you'd think with Atrophy (which guarantees an abberation), and the Pokedex tells you where you can find fish.
There were only a handful of annoying ones, I went from 170 fish caught to all 230 in maybe 5 hours.

I'm a bit worried about that. I did spend too long playing Dredge sometimes. It's easy to just keep going - there were times when I'd really need a wee but suddenly two hours had passed and I was still fishing.

Did you really like Dave the Diver? I thought the first 6-7 hours were great with a pretty compelling/quick gameplay loop but it really started to drag once you make it to the mermaid people's kingdom. It starts off feeling like a snappy diving/restaurant sim then gets so bogged down by super shallow and unexplored concepts/mechanics

I'm tired of playing KCD2 and have put the nonsense aside for now. I thought the game would be over soon, but when I saw the number of remaining main quests I had to slit my throat, because after about 10% of the game you are actually so overpowered that nothing is dangerous anymore and the terribly long and annoying main quest cutscenes followed by unspeakably boring scripted combat moments are no longer engaging.
Instead, I dedicated myself to my actual favorite genre after realizing once again that all story games are absolute shit, namely colony sims. DF, Rimworld and Syx are of course at the top, but with Norland (playing time now just under 25 hours) I have at least found an 8/10 game again after a long time. Well, it would be better if the Russian developer wasn't mentally handicapped and made a few simple decisions in favor of mentally stable people instead of artificially complicating the whole thing for no significant benefit. And it's not even complex, it's just exhausting. Like my post, like the funny shenanigans on this site. Pick your poison, whatever I'll go beat up my foid or something.

I want to play CS again but the only people who play it in Japan are Russians and tourists in LAN cafes so I have to choose between the people I'm playing with making me want to kill myself in CS2 or the game making me want to kill myself in Valorant
Japs are at least super fun to play with though. You can call a strat in broken moonrunes and they'll obediently follow you like you're Hirohito
, unlike Europe where you'll get some fricking Brit 'lurking' (peeking apts and dying) instead of taking part in the A split.
